Monterrey is known as the richest city in Latin America, and that relative wealth is almost entirely due to the fact that it's close to the US. A bunch of industrial companies like Cemex are headquartered there who export raw goods to the US. It's a cool place to visit for a day or two.

I was born in Monterrey and my grandmas house is close to cerro de la silla (the big mountain in the back) it’s probably the nicest city in all of Latin America desu. San Pedro is like a mini New York. Skyscrapers everywhere. It is pretty crowded tho, there’s pollution issues and like any mayor city there’s it’s bad spots

This is not the case in 99% of Mexico. This results in a very safe, clean city compared to other Mexican places. Word of caution though, all that wealth and prosperity came directly from NAFTA. Basically gutted out the US industrial north and transported it to Monterey. All those factories, warehouses, plants, and distribution centers are taken from America don’t get it twisted. The average Mexican can’t afford most of the shit that gets made there, it all goes north.
