drawing in league/group games awards 1 point. winning is 3 and losing is 0. penalties are for knock-outs and finals. on principle everyone wants to win unless they're playing a superior team.
if you're put off by draws you can safely continue ignoring the sport. football fans don't mind a draw if the game's exciting.
>>
>>155347696
That's because Iran has to play serious countries now and again. We qualified by beating countries who use palm trees for goalposts

Rankings don't matter
>>
>>155347957
Well they tied to the weakest team in their group so god help them when they have to face actual strong teams. It'll come down to which of those two countries has the least goals scored against them.
>>
>>155347529
One of them should be yamal, he got KWABd too
>>
>>155347487
Spain has decided to revive tiki taka, forgetting that it died out the first time around after other teams realized that just shoving nine men into a static defense forces them to spend the entire game impotently passing the ball around just outside of the box looking for opportunities that never come

(Team USA were the first ones to effectively employ this in the '09 Confed Cup btw)
>>
>>155347066
jogtie at its finest
>>
>>155348007
The other anon is right: Rankings don't matter. Particularly in the midfield, they're easy to manipulate by picking your friendlies carefully. Success in past tournaments really only matters for the top 5, maybe top 10 max.
And the thing is: Some of those smaller teams really invest into raising their ranking, while others don't. Which makes it entirely unreliable from somewhere around P15 way down to after P100, and from maybe 170 onwards, you get the total shitters, where a single win or loss in some random friendly can make a difference of 10 places up or down.
>>
We do a little slurping round here
>>
slow sport for slow brains, hence why it’s so popular with thirdies.

hockey is a high IQ sport and they don’t do fraudulent swan dives like faggots every 15 seconds.
>>
>>155348310
They also have half their team sit in construction vests the whole game and pretend they can't play more from exhaustion
>>
>>155348310
>slow sport
Funny, considering that football literally requires 45-stints of intense physical activity while the American version of the same game consists mostly of ad-breaks, timeouts and has one half of each team's players sit out while the other plays their thirty-second stints of running to try and catch some leather-egg.
>>
>>155348339
>have half their team sit in construction vests the whole game
That's because that half isn't playing on that day, bigbrain. There's literally only 11 players + 3 (can vary depending on the game format) on active duty in a game. Though more than that are kept ready in case something goes wrong that requires specific replacements, like an injury.
>>
>>155347828
and what's the standard for that still existing on a map after we voluntarily leave?
>>
>>155348457
>45 minute intense physical stints
>hydration breaks
>cardio is SUPER intensive
you know the faces they make are acting hans? swan dives every 15 seconds and standing around constantly isn’t 45 mins minutes of straight intensive activity. ultra runners don’t even strain their faces that much. this has become a game for thirdies. it’s not what it once was when it’s soul was euro-centric.
>>
>>155348570
>hydration breaks
Literally introduced as artifical ad-breaks to americanise the sport. They aren't usually a thing, you know.
>standing around constantly
Not even your dogshit team has players standing around. Did you ever even watch a game?
>>
>>155348619
they stand around when they watch each other take swan dives every few seconds
>>
>>155348619
Sorry Turkbro, you don't get to blame the hydration slurping on us. Only a European could come up with something so silly.
>>
>>155348657
>take swan dives every few seconds
Yeah, most teams really don't do that. Italy is kinda famous for that shit, but they didn't even qualify this time around. Other than that, it's mainly the shitters who dive on a larger scale.
>>
>>155348678
>Only a European could come up with something so silly.
Then how come it's literally not a thing in Europe and has only ever been used in capitalist shitholes like yours and Qatar? And, really, in Qatar it made a modicum of sense and depended on the actual weather on that day. You morons made it compulsory, and incidently your US channels literally use them for scheduled ad-breaks rather than staying with the game and trying to bridge the time with some additional commentary/analysis like most European countries do.
>>
>>155348682
I will admit Germany was at least entertaining to watch. Scotland wasn’t bad either. Brazil sucked shit. I’m just salty hockey season is over and watching soccer now, well…the pace is grating, the softness of the players is frustrating, and the officiating seems often fraudulent. We’ll see how the tournament develops. I’m going to the Brazil/Scotland game but I’m looking less forward to it now because the sport is boring me despite growing up playing it.
>>
>>155348722
Well, Scotland is one of the more physical sides, so if you enjoy that, they'll deliver. They're not particularly good though, and as you already noted, neither are Brazil these days. What's worse, the Brazilian team is filled with divas who think they deserve special treatment because their country has a history of long past successes.
>>
>>155348713
Member when Qatar said they would have flying drone AC units in order to host it during the summer? stfu your "sport" is run by corrupt faggots.
>>
>>155348816
>your "sport" is run by corrupt faggots.
Well, yeah. I think everyone can agree on that. It's why Russia, Qatar and the US got to host in the first place.
>>
>>155348828
Only reason why we got it was because of the 2015 FBI investigation so fair enough
>>
>>155348713
I see no problem with americans profiting off of commercial breaks on a sport we don't watch or care about. You shitters own this garbage, you stop it then instead of being a crybaby.
>>
>>155349006
>no problem with americans profiting off of commercial breaks
Sure. If they keep the sport as it is and use the breaks that occur naturally (as intended by the rules) for that. If you add additional breaks that completely ruin the flow of the game, for no reason other than advertising space, that's when it becomes a problem.

Iran's situation is fucked beyond belief.
They were literally at war until yesterday.
They couldn't have any meaningful preparation/friendly matches because of the ongoing war.
They are the only team that camp in one country hand have all of their matches in another country.
They are the only team that are forced to leave country immediately after the match ends.
They are the only team with fucked up visa situation, one of their players literally has visa for just one game.
They are the only team that a good portion of the team management and staff didn't get the visa.

It was the perfect opportunity for sheep fuckers to beat Iran and they blew it.

>>
>>155351961
both teams*
>>
>>155347066
This semen slurping sport is for me
>>
>>155351990
I disagree. We just watched them play, and they were overall pretty evenly matched. That's the best comparison you can get.
And, yes, they had very different weaknesses. Iran did look better in the midfield and had more coordinated attacks. NZ were better goalscorers and, for better or worse, more aggressive. Both ran out of steam pretty quickly. Both showed terrible passing and receiving. Both had clear defensive weaknesses, NZ arguably moreso, particularly because their keeper was abysmal.
Sure, you can claim that that a single game is not indicative of general quality, and that you need to look at both teams over a longer stretch of time. But you're not doing that, are you? You're looking at the fucking Pepsi ranking.
>>
oddly enough not a single one was boring
