Four.

You waste a lot of money to be extremely good at sports no one cares about

They were promised to us 3,000 years ago. And if we don’t claim them, someone else will.

explain what?
why the US only manages to get 1 gold medal per 235.000 people while Norway gets three times as many?

Ussr, china - 100% doping.

Because doping is bad for your athletes' health. "Other countries" care about that.

brazil is pathetic, barely above argentina with 5x their population
>>
>>155349938
Cuba like the other countries have a political reason to treat this as a soft power competition and diverge money that would be more productive somewhere else into training athletes and doping the fuck out of them to prove a point "at the world stage"

How many of those are from swimming?

>>155349354
Swimming and track & field are unfairly represented. If your country is good at those you can easily get like ten medals in a couple of days of competing, but you're good at a team ball sport you may get one (1) medal for participating in a tournament that lasts the entire event.
>>
>>155349938
all from real sports like boxing & wrestling too, no swimming or T&F statpadding

I don't see why they can't distribute the Soviet gold medals to the athletes respective country at the time. I.e. if a Ukrainian won, classify it as Ukrainian etc etc
>>
If I had my way, the olympics would have just one medal in total, for the best athlete overall.
Athletes compete individually, no team or nation.

Point-based system where you have to do:
>400m run
>10k run
>1k open water swim
>archery
>fencing
>wrestling
>horse racing
>sailing
>weight lifting
>chess

You can't do eugenics or performance enhancement drugs that cover all that at the same time.

>delusions of grandeur
Saying that German athletes don't dope isn't "delusions of grandeur". It's just stating a pretty obvious fact. Most countries don't dope nowadays. You guys are the exception.
>>
>>155352793
>Americans are.....LE DOPING. That's why they beat us!
Ok buddy, now go cry in the kiddy corner with the rest of the sub-athlete countries
>>
>>155349476
A larger population means you have a larger pool to choose your best athletes from, retard.
>>
>>155352842
>That's why they beat us!
You really think anyone cares that you "beat" them?
Reminder that this thread was literally made by an American with clear "illusions of grandeur" over a pretty meaningless stat. Then some guy asked a question, and I gave an answer. An accurate answer nonetheless. And you got quite agitated over that. Truly the "American way", innit?
>>
>>155349354
Why are we on this list? We are a winter olympics nation.
>>
>>155349354
Looks like the US is pretty even with Europe
>>
>>155349830
go look at the women's all-time list for the 400m and 800m, look up what those women looked like, and apologize for this retarded post
>>
>>155352793
this retard doesn't even know how athletics training works. most of the major countries don't have national organizations under which athletes train. In fact, our biggest teams all have international athletes among them. Doping isn't carried out at the national level in athletics. Yet here you are talking out your ass, making yourself look clueless.
>>
>>155352897
Kek!
It's not a deluaion of grandeur if it's reality. Check the chart again. Reality is brutal ik :)
>>
>>155352946
>look at the women's all-time list for the 400m and 800m, look up what those women looked like
I don't get your point. Not an expert on runners. All I heard was this Florence Joiner chick doping a few years ago, I think.
Anyway, what do they look like? Other than slim and muscular?

>>155352958
>most of the major countries don't have national organizations under which athletes train.
Now that's outright false. Even small nations have organized structures for their major sports.

>>155353016
>not a deluaion of grandeur if it's reality
Case in point. You care way too much about numbers. While accusing me of caring too much. That's a clear case of projection.
>>
>>155349354
>splitting Germany in 5 to make sure we aren’t second
>>
>>155353102
>Germany
>East Germany
>Silesia and Prussian territory lost to Poland
What are the other two?
>>
>>155353102
No one wanted a third one.
>>
>>155353102
In two at max, anon. Let's not do this whole historical revisionism bull.
And ironcially, getting split in two means having more athletes in the competition overall, rather than having athletes from both sides compete to qualify for the same spots.
Besides, the DDR/GDR comes with its very own controversies quite similar to those of the CSSR (which occupies the second place right now).
All those tables really are too much of a mess to clean up. And they are meaningless in the end.
>>
>>155349354
It's mostly stat padding in swimming.
>>
>>155349354

>itt: when America wins, it doesn't count mmkay?

whew
>>
>>155353209
They don’t even count the current FRG and the pre-unification FRG, then they also split the unified team. The GDR is debatable, but come on, this is pretty disingenuous. At the very least, all FRGs should count. And then we are second already
>>
>>155353272
USSR (not a real country), UK (4 countries in 1) and China (cheaters) don’t count either, hence France is number 1
>>
>>155353390
>They don’t even count the current FRG and the pre-unification FRG
Really? I'd have assumed that the "Germany" entry in the OP pic combines both of these. Otherwise, wouldn't both need to appear separately in that pic?
Not sure how the unified team is listed, but it was such an insignificant blip in history that it shouldn't matter much in the big picture.
>>
>>155353142
It is listed separately as
>German Empire (1896-1912, 1928-1936 (banned 1920 and 1924)
>Federal Republic of Germany (1952)
>Saarland (1952) (won no medals)
>Unified German Team (1956-1964)
>Federal Republic of Germany (1968-1988)
>German Democratic Republic (1968-1988)
>Federal Republic of Germany (1992-today)

This medal count only includes the latter
However, it isn’t IOC-official, I think. The IOC stopped officially keeping count of medals long ago since it is against the Olympic spirit in their eyes. That’s also why some countries count total medals while others go by golds and use the others as tiebreakers, or some others have point systems
>>
>>155353493
They still won 28 golds
>>
>>155349453
So does the USA.
>>
>>155349453
Everyone roided and roids
Though Germany for example might currently be one of the few countries to actually try to be clean at all costs for virtue signal points. And it shows in the results
>>
>>155352674
we could call it the 10 Athletics Contest
maybe something shorter and punchier
>>
>>155353513
I see, to be honest I thought he was complaining about 'potential' medals from Germans livingg in separated territories but it hadn't crossed my mind how many iterations of Germany actually existed over the history of the Olympics, and that they would all be counted separately. Saarland getting to compete is a funny bit of trivia.
>>
>>155353578
We are super strict in terms of roid control, cant say that about the USA and other nations, they have no incentive to do so.
>>
>>155353698
Also the burgers invest a lot more money into sports than we do, that also has to be said.
>>
>>155353513
>Saarland (1952) (won no medals)
Shocker!
