Hi, I'm from /pol/ and I come to this board every four years. I can't understand offside. It just doesn't make sense. So many goals ruled invalid today... It's so frustrating!Soccer is so difficult. Or am I an idiot?
>>155520984Yes you are an idiot.Offside is when in the moment of the pass the atacker is ahead of the last defender. How is it so dificult to understand?
rugby has offsides too, in fact offsides came from rugby retard
>>155520984go back to pol then retard
>>155520984>I can't understand offside. It just doesn't make sense.2 men have to be between you and the goal before the ball is passed to you.also the ball is never off sides so as long as you have the ball or are behind the ball you are onsides
>>155522834if the pass came from 2 guys ahead of the last defender you make the ball the line, this kill americans
>>155522834What's to stop the defenders from just hanging back?
>Hi, I'm from /pol/Go back or kill yourself (preferably both)t. /a/ (I don't get the offside rule either)
>>155522954If the atacker starts the run from behind the defenders(on side) he is not offside and outruns them he has open space to the goal keeper. There is a tatic called offside trap where you play with high lines exactly for that but its a delicate balance. If for example that last red circle in your image in the moment of the pass was in line with the defenders instead of being ahead he is not offside. If he then sprints foward to receive the ball he is face to face with the Goalkeeper if the defender doesnt acompany him. The more i explain the more complicated it sounds but its really simple if you understand the mexhanics. You pick it up instintivly if you watch the game or play it.
>>155520984I actually want to understand something about it too. It's my understanding that you can be offside unless you touch the ball and that you're only offside if you're closer to the goal line than the ball and the second closest defender.
Refereed some soccer when I was younger.>You cannot be offside in your own half.>offside only comes in effect past the halfway line in the opposing teams half.>to be offside you have to behind the 2nd last defender, this wording might trip you up but an important thing is that the goalkeeper actually counts as a defender, so imagine if a fullback tries to cover the goals after the goalkeeper tried to take a corner in the opposite side of the field for some retarded reason a common error is thinking the full back in the goal mouth is keeping everyone onside but if youre standing behind the 2nd last defender and the ball comes to you you're still offside.>throw ins and goal kicks ignore offsides.>you can be called offside if you engage with the play, it didn't happen today but usually if an offside player is in the action and an onside player gets the goal then an offside can be called because they arguably influenced the play. Usually you will see players consciously disengage the play if they realise theyre offside so as to not ruin the play by fouling.>if a player is offside and the defender purposely passes them the ball then the offside is ignored.Theres a few more but those are the more specific ones I remember.
>>155527137Isn't there something as well that if a player is offsides when the ball is kicked, but the ball touches a defender first, he can then play off the ball as if he was onside?
>>155522834>ahead of the last defendersecond to last*
>>155522834wrong
