For me, I have supported Argentina since watching this Maradona documentary back in 2012. I remember how powerful the song felt, it made a very big impression on me hearing Maradona singing it, while showing a montage of his rise from being a small kid in the slums to a world champion in just a handful of years. Even though I didn't and still don't speak Spanish, I listened to the song so many times I know all the lyrics by heartEn una villa nací, fue deseo de Dios, crecer y sobrevivir a la humilde expresión.

I really like this song, the original writer and singer (Rodrigo) has a lot of fun songs. A pity he died too early in a car accident, he led one music style that would have become quite popular outside of Argentina if he had more time. The cool thing about Maradona is that he has so much footage that even after seeing so much of him, there is always some new video of him that you never saw. He was very charismatic too.
>>155586071I still prefer Messi as a footballer but Maradona embodied the Sourh American SOVL in football. You see it less and less as the years go by.
>>155586234The song must be well known among Argentinians even though it is kinda old, right? It seems like the line opening line "En una villa nací" inspired the "en argentina naci" for the WC 2022 song>>155586346I agree, most football players are just boring. But Maradona, he is the embodiment of life and sovl.
His best years in Argentinos weren't even televised, 5 times straight leading the goal scorers table in an Argentinian league stacked with talent. The man was definitely something differenthttps://youtu.be/5Az4fDGhJ9I?si=0-3QH03anw_Ji-8d
