The format is ass, should've been 8 groups of 6, with 3 rounds. That way you get rid of the uneven number of teams advancing from each group.

Most games feel like filler and pretty much no meaningful upsets yet.3rd places going through is already known crap, but not enough people are upset over H2H being used over GD for tie breaks. We'll have too many meaningless 3rd matches because of that.

Even with large gaps in quality there has been some upsets and heroic performances, and more goals and excitement than the previous couple tournaments. The “filler games” have had some gems, like NZ-Iran or Curaçao-Ecuador. I’ve also been watching lots of the fan culture videos on youtube and such. My impression is that the party atmosphere and cultural mingling is much better than Qatar but still well behind 2018 and earlier. Downsides: hydration breaks for sure. Not opposed to a quick min for water if it’s hot, but having them every game no matter what, dragging them to 3 mins, and refusing to go to them during natural stoppages like a VAR check or goal is very annoying. Another downside is the group format. Not a fan of H2H deciding placement, already we see a bunch of dead rubber GW3 matches coming up because there’s no GD to play for.Game scheduling has been poor, changing start times and gaps between games constantly is just confusing to keep track of. I’d prefer a consistent routine. Overall 7/10, and I think it’ll go to 8/10 when we get to knockout matches with no downsides of the stupid group format
