Rade Bogdanovic is at the center of a controversy in Serbia. During the match between Belgium and Iran on Sunday evening (0-0), the former striker, now a pundit, made racist remarks on the Serbian public television channel RTS. These comments followed the sending-off of Nathan Ngoy, who was sent off in the 66th minute: "At this level, to be the last defender, miss a ball that's stationary, and get sent off... I've always said that these players—and I'm not racist—but Black players don't have the concentration to last more than 60 to 80 minutes."

The former Yugoslav international (3 caps, 2 goals) attempted to justify his remarks based on his playing experience: "I played with them. Sometimes we had to prevent our own players from making mistakes." The former striker, who played for Atlético Madrid and Werder Bremen, was then addressed by the presenter, who cited France as an example, whose national team includes many Black players who consistently perform at a very high level in matches.

Instead of retracting his remarks and apologizing, the pundit maintained his version of events: “If we wanted to go into detail, we could. They make mistakes too. I’m obviously not generalizing, but most people lack focus, and then these kinds of situations happen.”

Bogdanovic is known in Serbia for his provocative and direct style, but this time he seems to have crossed the line. RTS and the Belgian Football Association have not publicly commented on these remarks.
