There's the humiliation factor in club football too. Our cup competitions are better for that though, the "magic of the cup". Pic related happened earlier this year, the biggest upset in the FA Cup's 155 year history - defending champions and PL team Crystal Palace falling to sixth-tier Macclesfield. Literally 95%+ of the notability is the humiliation. There are upsets in league football too but not as wide as that.

thats another aspect of it, there are so many upsets because scoring is so low it can vary wildy based on if it's your day or not. So it's made for upsets more than any other sport. But the better team doesn't have any excuse they still lost.
