This is entirely possible. Anyone who thinks it isn't is delusional.
We have walked all over our group stage matches.
We are among the top teams in the Cup in fouls suffered. This is a treat that historically speaking only elite athletic squads receive from their opposition.

We don't have the electric striking and one-touch passing of top-tier teams.
But we have an elite manager and a defensive strategy that creates a very strong back line and makes scoring on us difficult.

If you look at where we were 10 years ago, every single player on our roster with the exception of GK Matt Freese has spent substantial time in either EPL, Serie, Bundesliga, or Eredivisie.
It wasn't long ago that it was just a bunch of MLS guys.
Our players aren't individually elite, but they have all spent years facing internationally elite competition.
It would be foolish to underestimate us, let along write us off that this point.

You could probably say the same about a bunch of African teams. Real African teams that is, not the 'European' teams staffed by ngubu mercs.
>>
I'm not writing you off, but if you win, football is over. I'd take any country winning over yours.
>>
>>155632452
our back line is arguably our weak point.
>>
>>155632953

Yeah but the coaching, training, and nutrition has probably never been as good within African nations as it has been in the US.
US doesn't have the elite lineage of skill-based training passed down from vets/coaches to new players that England, Spain, NED, and others have, but we as a nation practically invented modern sports nutrition, athletic conditioning, and recovery.
As you probably saw with CIV against Germany on Saturday, teams full of west Africans have elite sprint speed, but they have a limited gas tank late game for precisely the same reason.
>>
>>155632452
If this team is so good then how come they've only beat 2 European teams in the last 10 years - 10 man Bosnia B and Northern Ireland?
>>
>>155633590
they haven't played a competitive match vs. euros in 4 years, dummy. And they drew against England and Wales, with the latter being sent home as a result

See that's what I like to hear lol.
In all seriousness, I wouldn't think of it that way.
If the US goes deep in the tournament, some of it will be luck, but I promise you it will be attributable to home field advantage.
We admire European and south American soccer fans for their chants, particularly the English just because we can understand them.
We aren't nearly as clever, and we know it.
But American high-stakes sports atmospheres in stadiums that large are next level.
In a high-level playoff or championship game in pro or college football, we just scream. We bellow at the opposition the whole game, to the point that they can't call signals in and communicate. The ref in this video is lapel mic'd, and you can't even hear him talk.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VypxiD8GOxY
I know that exists in plenty of places in the soccer world. But it's different here.
>>
>>155634098
Honestly, I never considered Americans to be passionate fans. Let's see if in this WC you deliver epic moments like England with Oasis or the Scots singing Flower of whatever
>>
>>155635278
nothing gets Americans up and cheering more then seeing USA across a jersey.
>>
>>155635278

Yeah, we're not passionate about it from afar. WC hasn't been here in 32 years. You'll see shades of it in the early stages of the knockout, but particularly if we get to the quarters, people will pile tf in.
Being opps to a team wearing an American flag in an American stadium in a game like that is not going to be fun.
>>
>>155635803
You say that like people are gonna fight in the stands. It will just be a bit of banter.
>>
>>155635947

No, I want to be clear about that.
The gate prices are going to be insane, way too high for violent/hooligan types to make it in.
But for pure noise, that kind of atmosphere is nuts. You can feel the ground shaking underfoot, and no one has their voice the next day.

USA have looked good but thats exactly what you'd expect from a pot 1 team playing those opponents. Now you're in the big boy pot finishing top of the group is par.
>>
>>155636536

I am sort of the opinion that FIFA rigged it up that way to ensure strong gate sales and TV ratings from American audiences.
Paraguay beat Brazil, Argentina, and Uru in qualifiers, but each of those teams was resting their stars.
Australia has grit, but they're a country of only 27 million that has other sports they focus on.
Turkey is Turkey.

I would really have liked to see us face a stronger opponent in the group stage just so we got a reality check.
Even some of the teams that aren't favored to win it at this point look ridiculously good at this point, Netherlands being the obvious example.
>>
>>155637156
aren't you the same retard who kept taking victory laps about how great australia is and how you called it a week ago?
>>
>>155637343

No. I have been posting on 4chan for nigh on 20 years, and it's a huge waste of time to try to identify posters thread to thread without tripcodes present.
>>
I read through this whole thread so far but I still cannot bring myself to care about soccer
I'm genuinely trying for you /sp/
>>
>>155637477
Never reply to these sorts of posters
It's like a combination of tripfag groupie, eceleb spammer, and low IQ schizo you can always tell when they mention "posting styles"
>>
>>155637477
so multiple people have the exact same distinct posting style? that's bizarre.
>>
yes the refs can carry the team a few games. but a big team playin on full force will beat them.
>>
>>155637680

You talking about line breaks?
I am one of approximately one zillion self-important faggots who use line breaks for emphasis and to draw visual attention to posts.

>>155637655
>>
>>155638092

If you don't tell them, they never learn.
>>
>>155637935

Probably. But it's much tougher to score on us than in previous years.
One thing I would like to see either against Turkey or in the first round of knockout that we have at least someone who is capable of putting a big, looping goal from far away, out of reach of the opposing keeper in the back of the net.
Most of our scoring thus far has been kind of scrambling in front of the goal/headers.
>>
>>155637655
lel nice try retard, but this guy frequently pens long posts with line breaks for no apparent reason, often repeating himself in multiple threads. Usually about the US team, and you don't see really anyone posting like this about other teams. Similar tone. Schizo tendencies are certainly not necessary to recognize this combination of features, and I have no idea what this has to do with tripfag groupie, or eceleb shit. bizarre to reference, but feel free to tell me that these are all different posters

Turkey is going to smash you up, and Australia will win by 5 goals and top the group. You’ll be playing somebody good in the ro32 and lose on penalties because Americans are all fat cowards and the team is a reflection of the people
>>
>>155639141
we already won the group, dummy

Too deep, too skilled, plenty athletic. Very little chance.
>Brazil, Portugal
High level squads but lack cohesion and heart. We have a shot.
>Belgium, Morocco
Honestly believe this U.S. squad may be on a level with these two.
>>
>>155642256
>>155643653

OP here,
I favor you faggots to win it all after the teamwork and cohesion you showed in group stage play.
I think it's about time we handed England a loss in WC play.
Brazil is on a big-time off year.
Morocco hung one goal on Scotland, not even going to entertain that.
Germany only beat CIV because CIV is all west-African and they gassed out in the 2nd half.
Belgium, not saying it's guaranteed, but we are fully capable of waxing dat ass.

France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands we are outmatched against. But you can beat any team you can keep from scoring, and we have very good defense.
Argentina same category as above, but the fact that they only have one man scoring so far leaves a lot of questions.

As stated, whoever we end up playing in Rd of 16 and beyond is fixin' to learn some shit about playing in American stadiums.

Unironically yes. Our toughest opponent will be Spain and they couldnt even beat Cape Verde. .

Can't wait for the inevitable 'We didn't care anyway' threads after you get bootyblasted by a B tier team.

We already played 2 of them and demolished them both.
