Realistically speaking, could football replace handegg and baseball in America in terms of popularity?
>>
>>155638109
baseball is a dying sport so it might top that but american football is pretty populalr so probably not
>>
the introduction of Hydration Breaks™ make it slightly more possible than ever before
>>
>>155638109
baseball is in decline and soccer is replacing it as the Democrat sport
>>
No, for the same reason soccer is popular in Europe. Because of its establish pageantry and infrastructure around the sport. People watch the sport because of that, not because it's inherently more interesting or magical

What happened?
>>

It should replace cricket in india. Fifa and indian football federation have the opportunity to do it
>>

No. No fucking chance. Not unless the democrats flood the country with another couple hundred million third worlders.

no,
Football, Baseball, and Basketball make too much money. All our best athletes play those 3 sports. Even bench players in the NFL make more than every soccer player in the world

Oh I completely forgot about hand non-egg.
>>
>>155638109

It will not replace it in a historical sense and I doubt attendance nor viewership will ever be impressive. But I bet it could overshadow an already extremely downtrodden MLB.

>>
>>155638361
It's boring to play, most of the time, and requires a lot of players. Basketball and soccer can be played in a lot more variations. You can't play 1v1 baseball
Because of increasingly isolated children living in suburbs and not roving around the neighborhood in bands, it's simply not easy to play an improvised baseball game. Even football can be played with eg. 8 kids
So kids don't grow up with baseball unless their dad makes them play little league, and they don't feel the need to be serious baseball fans in adulthood. I don't watch baseball myself unless I'm actually at a game, and while that's a good time, we only go a couple times a year

Baseball, probably. The only way they can get crowds to go to their games at this stage is random unrelated crossover events to sell merch to weebs.
Handegg, no. It's far too ingrained in American culture. Yes, I know baseball is too, but handegg evolved with the time more and marketed themselves enough that they practically have a national holiday just for their final.
>>
>>155638109
yes, the less white america gets the more popular football will become, in 30 years it will be the national sport when barely any whites are left

Maybe in like 50-100 years if third-world migration continues at its current rate but I doubt it. Soccer is completely irrelevant here unless our boys are doing well at the WC. Football and baseball and basketball are so much bigger it’s not even really a contest right now
>>
>>155638109
Only if u import gazillion mexicans (again)
>>
>>155638361
I think for Americans baseball is just a vibe sport, many movies or TV shows like Star Trek will mention baseball, baseball cards etc. but few actually care about it like people care about Football, soccer, hockey etc.
>>
>>155640253
>Let’s hope not
You have nothing to worry about, barely anyone gives a fuck about soccer here outside of the world cup (only due to nationalistic "america numba 1" retardation). The MLS is a huge joke and the youth aren't interested in playing in that crappy league. Football/Baseball/Basketball/Hockey are the only sports this country cares for and that's a good thing.
>>
>>155640994
they won't need to, NFL is carried by white america. in some decades it might exist in some small capacity for the minority white population but football will dominate

>>
>>155638109
Maybe in like 40-50 years, since more parents are pulling their kids out of football (im still calling your football soccer, deal with it yuropoors) over CTE. Its still the top sport by far in terms of TV ratings/relevance so there'll be parents chasing it for money regardless as long as that's the case.

It's more likely to replace baseball because baseball struggles to keep younger people's attention and their fanbase is already aging out. NFL has better cross generation appeal. NHL and MLB are going to get passed by soccer most likely. NHL probably already is behind it.

What's he thinking right now?
>>
even with a complete demographic change i doubt it, most latino kids i grew up with were american football fans first and then wore a mexico jersey every 4 years for the world cup o algo
>>
>>155641187
NFL has a lot of black fans/players, and black parents are the most likely to look past the CTE risk because they want the chance of NFL money. You'll probably see less wealthier people playing it.

Baseball is what's truly fucked, blacks don't give a shit about it. Mexicans sort of do but not nearly as much as soccer
>>
>>155641249
I'd honestly rather my kids play a softer sport like soccer or baseball than end up getting maimed in football or rugby
>>
>>155641378
Yeah thats baseball's best hope, that it can convince more kids to enroll in it as a safer alternative vs NFL. The problem MLB is facing is that it needs to figure out how to hold the attention spans of younger fans and get them to care about the stars
>>
Everybody is always saying baseball and basketball are dying during their boring regular seasons, but their playoffs and championships always prove otherwise. The reason NFL is top dog is because their regular season is so short so every game is basically a playoff game for the first few months even if the team ends up being trash. With that in mind, football's (soccer) ceiling is probably being the 2nd most popular in America, since its regular season is too long for our attention spans too.
>>
>>155638109
no and thanks god for that
>>
>>155641349
i don't mean the players, interest in the NFL is carried by white america. I don't see a 70% non-white america caring about the NFL in 40 years
>>
People in here are coping about baseball; I’m a massive fan of both baseball and soccer but in terms of engagement baseball is way above soccer and trending upward again; if anything I see nfl declining as the Latino population grows and boomers die
>>
>>155641349
>Baseball is what's truly fucked
Baseball has been played since 1846, it's never dying as long as this nation continues to exist. It is an everyman sport with low risk of injury (if you're not a pitcher), so it's very attractive to parents. Multiple rule changes have boosted viewership to levels it hasn't been in decades.
>>
>>155639448
>college women basketball mote popular than wnba

???
>>
>>155638437
so you're saying it's basically guaranteed?
>>
In america no but in Canada it's got a shot against hockey. Hockey is prohibitively expensive for 90% of the population to play, rinks aren't even that widely accessible for casual play. Also our population is rapidly becoming less white, and only white people care about hockey. All of our teams have sucked for years and years and now even our national team is losing its dominance to the USA. Hockey is on its way down and being replaced by basketball and soccer.
>>
soccer already mogs hockey

it always felt like a stretch to call it a "big 4" desu, NHL was always second tier vs mlb/nfl/nba.

maybe it was close with NBA in like the 70s but jordan took it way past that. soccer is definitely more relevant than hockey. world cup or even champions league get more press than stanley cup. i dont even know who won the stanley cup this year
>>
>>155641682
Hockey is relevant at the olympics, and usually most people can name the biggest star like Gretzky or Ovechkin or Crosby even if they don't know anyone else.

NHL is bigger than MLS at least, nobody can name MLS stars casually unless they follow it. Its probably equal with soccer right now but on the downward trend

seems so backwards honestly
its literally a sport played in the streets or the rundown field in town
>>
>>155638109
It can easily go up to overtaking basketball, but will never get American football. Biggest issue is the massive racial issues that will come when all the sports popularized by African Americans get taken over by a sport that at best has true Africans and is mostly a Hispanic thing (Hispanics and blacks despise each other)
>>
>>155638361
Opposite of NFL where the NBA players union is too strong. They solved the game and made it boring as fuck to extend their contracts to infinity
>>
Football is already the most popular sport, Soccer might someday pass baseball and that's probably the ceiling, it will never be more popular than football or basketball
>>
>>155638109
>could football replace handegg
No
>and baseball
Maybe. At this point, Baseball has been declining for decades and is more of a Japanese sport. In America, it's pretty much held up by aging boomers who remember when it was still the biggest thing in the mid 20th century. That and sometimes just wholesome family events. Mostly whites. But lot of Hispanics live in the US now.

a lot of insecure baseball and basketball fans here. Neither of them is dying but to say that they're growing is wrong I think. Personally I think the bigger threat to these other sports is actually football, not soccer.
To me it feels like football is only growing relatively more popular, it's starting to feel like sports monoculture like most countries have with soccer. Of course we have so many people that there are still plenty of baseball, basketball and hockey fans, but the layman American the only sport they watch or can talk to you about is football.

>>

>i heard that in the USA soccer is a rich people sport?
Upper middle class liberals got into the game for their kids because it was seen as being multicultural and trendy, rather than for the sport itself. It's why soccer has a relatively shitty perception to most Americans because these same soccer moms and ex-hippies had made it appear its for sissies by downplaying the physical contact and the idea of 'play nice' of encouraging no aggression. There's a good episode in King of the Hill that portrays this stereotype really well.

>>155642020
I think this is a bigger obstacle to soccer’s popularity here than yuros realize. The public stereotype of an average American soccer fan is extremely negative. Basically an effeminate liberal urbanite yuppy who wishes he was European. Most Americans, including lefties, still like their country and being too big a soccer fan is perceived as odd and even suspiciously un-American.
>>
>>155642897
What matters is the average. Finals will always attract people, esp if its between two specific teams that is pushed by the media as a big deal. Like I never watch most NFL matches, but I will watch the Superbowl as part of a ritual.
>>
>>155642738
Kinda. NYC is not a football city and it doesn't help that their teams are mostly awful and/or play in new jersey

It's not expensive to play but the stereotypical soccer mom is white middle class and has the means and responsibility to schlep their kids around to wherever soccer is being played in the city every week.

The other big sports usually have a highschool team so the school handles 99% of that your kid just needs to sign up and maybe pay for equipment so those sports have way more lower class kids.

I think a lot of people fail to realize how quick turning American culture is. It's very likely the WC will go well, continue to be very popular in the States. And then in September most people won't care anymore and have moved on- to CFB, NFL, politics, some HBO show. We are truly a different breed.

I think the only way for soccer to have a lasting influence in America is if your team makes it to the semi finals.
>>
>>155643242
They don't understand that soccer is just another sport here. There are other sport leagues playing every single day of the year.
>>
>>155638384
I for one think humanity is blessed to have an indian-free zone in football

International football would be better if it were only Winter Olympics countries

You have no idea how boring nascar is to watch on TV
The only reason anyone watched turn left in the past was for the crashes, and with youtube now who wants to waste a Sunday watching a boring race when you can just look up crash highlights
The only kino thing about nascar is the drivers get in fights outside the cars which is more interesting than anything on the track

Local race tracks that do crazy shit on Friday nights are fun though

Even if US won it all I don't think it will change things much here even though the media will go nuts trying to say that it will. Americans need a team to root for, rivalries to develop etc. Something to engage with for months at a time like the other NA leagues.
>>
with demographic shift football will be #2 sport in 34 years

Upper middle class leftoids who romanticze soccer as a part of European working-class culture while looking down on poor, less progressive local people, were really a cancer for the sport in Japan. They were obnoxious and way too snobbish. About half of soccer journalists were like that until like 2010s here.
Seems like the US had a similar issue.

no lol chicanos suck at soccer, they're all cucked into being boreball fags

When the country becomes plurality Hispanic, yes

/mlb/ is literally a mental asylum of schizophrenic tranime addicted chicanos
if anything soccer fans are increasingly white here because they push the EPL connection hard, including media like ted lasso

no Americans who get into soccer will continue following European leagues, MLS won't overtake any of the established leagues in this cunt. If the question was will more US talents make there way to high profile leagues? Then yes.

The World Cup always generates interest, especially since we are hosting it this year, but unless the United States goes all the way in the tournament, it is unlikely to drive significant growth beyond the existing fan base.

People often compare it to hockey, but the hockey equivalent of the World Cup is the Winter Olympics games between the U.S. and Canada, which also draw massive attention. Even people who have never watched the NHL know about the 1980 Miracle on Ice. The NHL is the direct equivalent of MLS, but it is bigger. Everyone knows who Gretzky is. Rappers wear hockey jerseys as a fashion statement. Trump even used to mention Ovechkin in his speeches. Who even is the best player in MLS?

>Who even is the best player in MLS?
Messi plays for Miami

Soccer is objectively more artistic and less physical/violent than top American sports. And that's why people think it's gay here. Simple as
>>
>>155643976
Shit, I forgot about that lol. Case in point really, we know Messi but think of him as an international star. MLS has had these guys about to retire since Beckham, but any guys who are playing their prime in MLS who are global stars?

I've been to baseball games in a dozen different cities and 95% of the fans are white. Most hispanics are not from baseball playing countries, and most chicanos are not from baseball playing parts of Mexico. I've lived in south Texas and the top sports for chicanos is 1. football (by far, they fucking love the Cowboys), 2. soccer (mostlythe Mexican league, and Real Madrid for some reason), 3. basketball (spurs mostly). Baseball is not on the radar.
LA is the exception since they do have more people from the baseball playing regions of Mexico, since it's right across the border

>>155644073
why larp like this paco? you think you will score white people points via baseball? lol
anyone can go on /mlb/ and see the hispanic floodgates have opened
>>
>>155638343
you have that around female football too now and still grounds are empty
it's popular because millions played it themselves
>>
>>155644153
>schizos on 4chan of all places liking baseball means all baseball fan are trooned out schizos
>>
>>155644153
Do you think /mlb/ is a better represantitive of baseball fans than the fans at a dozen different ballparks? Houston is the only one I've been to with a notable hispanic presence and it was still maybe one quarter at most.

The problem is that all of the best players in the world have to go to Europe to hone their skills and prove themselves. Unlike all the thirdies out there, we have domestic sports with world class athletes and 100+ years of tradition behind them. You have to foster enough home grown talent to turn the MLS into a real world class league that everyone here will care about because you're not gonna convince majority of Americans that watching Prem matches at 3am is more fun than cheering for your local football team with your own community. I do think this country is going to be able to produce enough talent to be consistently competitive internationally over the next 50-100 years, but as far as domestic popularity, I think there is a hard ceiling firmly below basketball and football. And even in a major metro like the one I live in (San Diego) that lacks an NBA or NFL team, SDFC is still way less popular than the Padres so making 3rd place is gonna take some work too.
>>
>>155644275
I don't think Americans would survive in Europe, we don't have A/C
>>
>>155642136
professional league. i assumed that about college handegg but im pleasantly surprised that golf and college apehoop is now above the NBA. fuck that league
also this is misleading because it's just the championship. baseball probably is number 2 in total view. the natty is a cut above everything else in college sports
>>
>>155643356
Don't worry, unlike you we play our sports completely with people of our own race, and eventually we will play football with people of india, not mercenaries

>>155646344
based

hockey's deal is that its regional. you go to new england or minnesota and its huge. you go to arizona and no one gives a shit.

mls is kind of like that, but they seem to have more national pull.
the nhl teams have more brand recognition like bruins, blackhawks, red wings but most hockey players are nobodies in US. messi and ronaldo are bigger than the nhl. but bruins/red wings are more relevant in their markets than even the biggest mls teams like the sounders or timbers or whatever
>>
>>155638109
No black people and rural people dont care about it at all. These are the people who are typically caring about sports the most here

It is getting more popular here, especially within the last 10 years, but it definitely isnt close to being a main sport
>>
why do hispanics hate basketball so much?
do they think they'll score white people points?
>>
>>155638109
It will never be the top sport until MLS is the best league in the world
>>
>>155647813
hispanics are short
>>
>>155638109
Nah
Not unless they banned football
But if that happened I wouldn't ve surprised if fucking hockey becomes top dog cause it'll be the only violent sport left
>>
>>155638361
Baseball has been in decline since Mickey Mantke retired, yet still it remains
>>
>>155638361
baseball ebbs and flows. in the 2010s they were struggling to adapt but its coming back slowly.

its comfy and everything else is way too overstimulating

>>155638109
only if all heritage americans were replaced by paper americans
