BUT EVEN THEN nobody would care about that player unless he dominated an international competition and that competition almost certainly has to be the world cup. if that exact scenario happened it would probably cause an abnormal acceleration in soccer care here and possibly even greater impact than the complicated billionaire astroturfing scenario i laid out. but while the likelihood of us having that player from an athletic talent perspective is very, very high (we have many many elite athletes), the likelihood of that athlete choosing soccer is miniscule, and in the event that athlete chooses soccer, the likelihood he sacrifices his own career to force the game into public consciousness here (rather than making billions in Europe) is basically nonexistent. this is what soccer always will be here. and like i said that's ok because the world class talents that do play in other countries would never be appreciated here the way they are elsewhere anyway.

no clue first time tuning into the sport since I saw it with my dad as a child. It's not a sport i'd really watch but it's not unwatchable either. The threatrics will be fun and the mood is mildly pleasant. the US getting goofy far would be entertaining but I don't really care about it either...
