Why isn’t Rugby more popular?
>>
It's gay
>>
>>155988611
gay
>>
>>155988611
too homosexual
>>
>>155988611
rich uppity sport also very homoerotic
>>
it's not gay enough
>>
>>155988624
Then why NFL is popular in amerimuttland
>>
>>155988642
rugby isn't a rich person's sport wtf
>>
>>155988649
Because it's not gay. Then again, neither is rugby.
Now soccer on the other hand...
>>
You'll never have a Cape Verde/Iceland/etc type moment in the RWC. Weaker teams get demolished 86-8.
>>
>>155988611
Elitism and not a very good spectator sport, they tried to fix those thing with rugby league but it just became repetitive and boring
>>
>>155988668
Rugby Union definitely is, Rugby League is played exclusively in the triangle of the North West between Wigan, St Helen's and Warrington, and also Hull for some reason.
>>
I don't get it
>>
>>155988611
Nobody plays it as a kid.
>>
>>155988624
>>155988630
>>155988640
this
the entire reason those types of blokes play rugby is to bum each other in the showers
>>
>>155988611
Rugby is traditionally for public school boys only. Its a bit like why only blacks play basketball.
>>
no ngubus
>>
>>155988611
Almost as gay as MMA
>>155988824
Retard lmao, tons of ngubus in NZ and elsewhere
>>
>>155988824
there are some ngubus but unironically they have recently tightened the rules to make it even harder for ngubus to succeed, they get carded and removed from the pitch for what feels like ages.
>>
>>155988611
It’s exclusionary by design, the only position a manlet can play is scrum half and they still have to be very physically strong, everyone else has to be tall and strong, it’s a full contact sport unlike football or basketball, all of this rules most of the male population out, they physically aren’t strong enough to play it, they never had a choice in the matter their genetics mad her decision for them, add in the link to private schools and it becomes even more exclusionary, it wasn’t meant to be popular it was meant to be elitist from the off and that’s why it’s so good, anyone can play football but not everyone can play rugby
>>
>>155988824
Isn't South Africa world class in rugby?

most of their rugby team still consists of white saffers, and then even then their ngubus have to compete for spaces with the mixed race "cape coloureds"
>>
If you are not a Polynesian or an Afrikaner who has had a geographical and historical motive to be as big and strong as possible, you are going to struggle. Even West Africans and Gauls get bulldozed and bullied by them.
>>
>>155988668
It is in my country

>>155988611
unironically, NFL pays companies to not broadcast it here.
>>
>>155989061
>it was meant to be elitist from the off and that’s why it’s so good, anyone can play football but not everyone can play rugby
So you're telling me the competition is very low, similar to speedrunning a game almost nobody in the world has ever speedrun?
>>
>>155989358
Is that capitalism or communism or socialism

Union is for wealthy whites and honestly is pretty dangerous. Half the team has bandages for cuts and scrapes on top of concussions. In the US its mostly played by private schools. (People that pay to go to school under 18, public school is free in the US). Football is mostly played by poor religious rural people here. We do have college rugby and a small pro league though. The pro league presentation is pretty good and games are easy to find if you have ESPN. Most of our good athletes don't have the money for private school unless they were recruited or their parents already went pro or D1 college in another sport.

I find league to be more fun to watch, better from an athletic standpoint in terms of body types and conditioning required, and I like that they try to make changes for the fans. Rugby league feels like they want people to participate in the sport. I watch NRL and Super League when I can. If NFL dies out, many people here would find switching to rugby league an easy transition. Many stadiums also don't quite have the width for the field without things getting awkward. You could run 9s on a football field pretty well though.
>>
Sort of funny how the whole relation between sports/class status is basically flip flopped in the US vs the rest of the world. We see soccer as somewhat posh, while (american) football is the working man's sport.
>>
>>155988611
same reason why American football and Aussie football isn’t popular. You people hate anything with contact
>>155989666
lacrosse would also be the private school sport white collar sport, honestly I think more so then soccer
>>
Rugby league players look healthy and fit. On the women side they look good too. Not as many scrapes. The running style is pretty different, but most guys would do fine if they take a few years to transition. Many parents won't do football because of concussions and soft tissue injuries anymore. Union has concussions, scrapes, and cuts. Weird injuries you don't really see in football because of the pads. League does not really have that reputation and the players are not fat so I think it would do well. We don't have the coaching infrastructure either.

I forgot they do show some six nations over here on actual broadcast TV. I saw France and someone earlier this year was surprised.

fpbp. Very homosexual sport
>>
>>155988640
>>155988766
True. The amount of homosexual shit I witnessed the rugby team at uni do is unspeakable.
>>
>>155988624
gayness is ok
>>
>>155988611
Popularity brings diversity. Diversity brings misery and death. Simple as.

How popular is rugby in Argentina?
I know Argentina is one of the elite rugby nations
Obviously, it's nowhere near as popular as soccer, but is it a solid 2nd sport with a huge fan base, or is it more of a niche sport that most people don't care about?
>>
>>155988611
Is popular enough bro not competing with football is one thing not being popular is another the rugby world cup is seen by 800millions world wide
>>
>>155991772
Its played on the whole country we have a domestic semipro league called urba top14 that is very popular and has fans for clubs that are over 100 years old
Ill say maybe it is as popular as rugby in japan
One big sport football and then a lot competing for second place, rugby is one of them
>>
>>155988683
Better teams crushing worse ones is maybe a good thing though? What does it say about football that shitters can end up drawing or even beating supposedly world class teams?
>>
>>155993357
>>155988683
There is been tons of upsets on the world cup
>>
>>155988611
Too complicated
>>
>>155988624
Its the manly kind of gay though, not the faggot kind
>>
>>155991772
depends what part of argentina. some cities like rosario, buenos aires or tucuman have very strong rugby cultures while in the rest of the country is not as important
>>
>>155988824
That’s not true though. Tons of South African Ngubus do rugby
>>
>>155989744
I would love Aussie rules to be played all over the world
>>
>>155988611
Contrary to what americans and whoever the fuck plays rugby, hugging other men isnt an entertaining sport.
>>
>>155996172
True
>>155996729
Gay
>>
>>155988611
There has never been a good rugby video game. NBA2K and Fifa did more than anything else to spread their sports popularity
>>
>>155988624
Fpbp
>>
>>155988611
Because 90% of the time when the ref stops the play no one has a clue why.
>>
>>155988611
Because playing with your hands is woman tier. It's too easy.

Also as the other anons have pointed out it looks homosexual
>>
>>155988624
t. negro-worshipping NFL/NBA fan
>>
>>155988723
League is also played in Cumbria
>>
>>155997975
Based as fuck this the truest reason any sports make it big or not
>>155998157
Not our fault
>>
>>155989787
League would take over America if it’s set up properly with community based clubs, which won’t happen there. It can make a lot of money too, but because in the US there will never be that grassroots local junior club base run by volunteers and taking free funding grants from the professional level it’ll never happen.
>>
Fragile masculinity
>>
>>155988611
No forward pass.
>>155988649
The forward pass.
>>
>>156000459
You can only have the forward pass cause nfl its turn based gay shit, if didnt stop every 30s a game with foward pass wouldn't work
Nfl will always be rugby little retarded brother
>>
>>156001773
The forward pass was added to American football to curb on field deaths. Then it was perfected by Unitas and pushed the NFL into its modern popularity.
>>
>>156001929
>pushed the NFL into its modern popularity.
Only in the usa the world preffer union and again the forward pass wouldnt work if you didnt make rugby into a turn based frankestein sport
Nfl superbowl 140m
Rugby world cup 800m
>>
>>156001994
The world doesn't matter. Only the US matters.
>>
>>156002052
Is that why your whole country is kneeling to the football world cup? The world sport?
>>
>>155997975
True, and EA's commitment to publish new versions of FIFA to decade-old consoles did wonders for the game in South America
>>
>>155989241
That looks gay as fuck
>>

>>155988611
everyone knows why. rugby is a shit spectator sport, and if no one watches it, no one will play it. Australians rules is such a better sport. the fucking Irish should abandon Gaelic rules and build the fucking oval. they still have hurling which is the very best stick game on the planet.
>>
>>155988668
It actually is; Rugby is essentially a private-school boys' sport.
>>
this >>155993052
>>
>>156002575
>Australians rules is such a better sport.
>>
>>156002783
my dads a proper povvo from up north and he loves it
>>
shit aesthetics. it's anti-kino.
>>
Rugby is losing popularity here, too much ref ball
>>
Too high IQ for brainlets and wussys who are afraid of getting hurt
>>
>>156010277
I think he’s talking about union and you’re talking about league
