The US just isn't good enough and never will be. It has 4th-5th tier athletes playing soccer and doesn't have a good youth development system. Winning an elimination game is a good outcome for the US. Unironically the US national team is about as far from being competitive as a top college football team is from competing with NFL teams.

Other nations have development systems for their young players, the US barely has any of that. Only girls are allowed soccer scholarships.
Usa was a lot better 25 years ago than it is now. It had some attributes most teams didn't have and made up for its dog shit talent. Now it's just a knockoff European team the way it plays
