Should be good for a top 10 this tour as things stand. 10 minutes on Pidcock who is probably going to be 8th-10th. I can see him dropping off early on climbs to hold his own pace whist Visma and PooAE smash each others face in. O'Coomer did it well in the vuelta. I love these break away heists.

Vacek will win by 0:20 seconds over Pog. A 4-minute gap is no joke—he's a strong guy. And not that much elevation to compensate that gap
>>
How come Merckx is not a member of the most common duos? 34 wins, 18 second places, yet the placing not achieved by him, was ever achieved 6 or more times by a songle other rider.
>>156507881
Just after crossing the finish line he looked distressed.
>>
>>156507935
Overall? He beat Jonas by over 4 minutes last year. It is simply not possible. He's a lump anyway, tall and big. If Jonas was 4 minutes up on poogacar I'd still bet on poogacar.
>>
Yup, I meant overall. If you look at this Tour de France's stage profiles, there aren't many stages with massive climbs where Pog could make up the gap. If he doesn't attack tomorrow, I think it's unironically over unless Vacek chutes or something unfortunate happens to him. Just a reminder he finished 3rd in Switzerland and is in incredible form

That is more compelling than I had thought and poogacar will have to have some impetus to bring time back fairly soon as not to let this become an actual threat. But some of the time gaps he put into Jonas last year, where he seemed to barely try after Hautacam, is enough to shut that theory down in my eyes. He's getting time back on the TT's and the mountains, likely he'll have an irradiated climb on alps d'huez because he usually has one of those stages where he just lets loose. That could be 3 minutes on that stage alone if Vacek is having the ride of his life. That's realistically 1:30 to Jonas, maybe 2 minutes. For poogacar, 4 minutes is really nothing. He held back a lot last year and still had a very comfortable margin. If he was 10 minutes behind I'd consider it a freak possibility but 4 minutes, no chance. Look at his liege performances. Even the rolling terrain he can just switch on the motor and take 2 minutes.

I want to believe and I will shill this meme if poogacar doesn't take time back tomorrow. This would be the greatest tour I've seen so far if he pulls it off.
>>
>>156508730
he didn't hold back last year. he was spanked by Wout he was so tired by the end. lucky Jonas was not 100% from his crash earlier in the year
>>
>>156507320
Well Wellens said they had one stage ticked off in the first week and that it wasn't stage 2 or 3
>>
>>156508870
They will go just hard enough to not drop Del Toro ot the Tourmalet.
>>
>>156508802
Really starting to believe in Jonas after Macedonia's Vacek shilling. Reflecting on last year I know poogacar held back later on in the race and that might have been a mix of tiredness, spiting Visma and placating the french public. He took his 2 minutes on hautacam and basically ended the racing there. Took a big chunk in the TT's too, nearly 2 minutes. Plus the bonus times. He didn't look outrageously superior to Jonas like we've seen before. As long as Jonas doesn't TT like a retard and Visma start getting very creative, we might be lucky enough to see a sub 2 minute advantage to poogacar which in itself is dangerous because a mistimed crash or a chaotic breakaway is all it takes.

Of course visma would just sit up because they're gay but I want to believe.
>>
>>156498879
They'll just put on a smaller front ring for mountains. Probably a 50.
>>
>>156509126
Why the speculation about the cause of his underperfomance in last year's third week? He has said on several occasions he suffered a knee injury, Politt on a German podcast said the same.
But last year's Tour is not as relevent as races just before this year's Tour. Axelgaard made reasonable points that Pogacar underperformed at Suisse, while Vingegaard is in as good as form as he ever was.
>>
>>156509126
Pog is of course still the big favourite. I'm just saying it's not completely unreasonable to see him beaten. The bookies odd are 1/6 implying he wins 6 out of 7 times. Fair.
Jonas is the only one who has even a slimmer of a chance though.

Assuming Jonas is in better shape than last year and he claims to be much lighter. Pog skipped his altitude camp and was focussed on monuments for the first few months of the year.

This is ideal for Pogacar if he gets separation on the Tourmalet. With it being quite shallow, pure watts will matter and Jonas will struggle if he finds himself having to TT against Pogi in that kind of terrain.

Imo a 30s gap over the Tourmalet easily becomes a 1:30+ gap by the end of the stage unless Seixas, Lipo or preferably Memco manage to reach Jonas. It will be a mix of 2023 stage 6 and 2024 stage 4, probably even more favourable to Pogi than either were.

>>
So this will be the 5th tour for poogacar. When will it stop? I can absolutely see 8 tours. Maybe 10. I think he'll get another buff once the younglings are ready to compete. Suddenly his new trainer was also shit all along. He's 27 now so it's very realistic to expect bare minimum another 3. Go up to age 32 riding the tour would also be something I could see because there no end to the arrogance. Liklihood of that ever getting beaten is basically nil. Tries on attention and you're not getting that watching it from a studio or lounge chair.
>>
Sometimes at races it's almost scary the force riders put through the bikes. The 24' nationals went up a steep hill with a hairpin and I though askey's chain was going to snap because he used a ridiculous gear. The raw power is intimidating. I would imagine seeing mads, grug, wout etc smash up the ardennes or flandrian hills would be a spectacle. Looks so smooth on the screen. They must feel the carbon twist and the bottom bracket creak beneath the.

>>
>>156516227
cycling journalists are kind of a joke these days
pogacar should be 5 stars and the rest at 1 or not classified
there's a legit sub 2% chance remco beats him tomorrow what do you mean they're both 2 stars
>>
>>156518109
thought about this today, but with vingegaard, what would be a viable handicap to make it more competitive. To answer your question I think it would be fairly easy for pogacar still, I mean just look at the gaps of the last two tours and he wasn't even chasing
>>
>>156518100
I guess at these powers you actually need to plan the gears so they align as much as possible so there's little lateral tension. A lot to consider if you're in the moment gunning for a win. Trackies snapping their chain is an ultimate flex. Did you shift and it snapped? Wattage after a tyre slip is fun, got 2000w on damp grass before. I'd imagine it's even higher when you snap the chain because there zero resistance assuming the pedal stroke continues to the bottom.
>>
>>156518370
I don't know, you see the pros cross chain fully all the time.

>>156518370
It's the first chain I've ever broken and it was brand new. Wasn't even close to a full sprint either, no cross chaining, no gear changes. Just a freak accident.
>>
>>156518297
I think so. But it'd work both ways. Carrot is dangling for traen for example and he has to kill himself to hold that advantage. 3-4 minutes each mountain stage. At least 5 minutes over the course of all the rolling stages. Maybe even 2 minutes on the tt. Traen would probably discover some extra freak performances over that period so the traen we all know would probably be boasted by a few percent.

I would think Jonas at 10 minutes would be compelling. poogacar would go all in and go hard which we've not seen in years. He's more reserved because there's no incentive. 10 minutes is 100% doable from what we've seen the past few years. But it'll be close and requires consistent aggression at every opportunity. If love to see that.
>>
>>156518109
Well I remember they gave Wout around 20 minutes advantage in 2021 and he didn't even try to hold on.

>>156518841
Yeah you are right. I just checked. My mind is playing tricks on me. It was over 10 minutes during stage 7 but uae managed to close it down to something like 5.
>>
>>156518591
I'd agree but Traen isn't that guy, in my mind for this 20-30 minute scenario to work you'd need a world class climber who isn't quite generational, but you know won't fatally crack one stage and lose 15 minutes. Like a Lipowitz or Tobias Johannessen for example. Spot Tobias 20 minutes and that's a real carrot, because he could ride the monster climbs at his own pace which is GC worthy and kind of maintain the lead until the very last stages.
With a Vingegaard handicap the Tour would probably be the most entertaining of all time, but it's a shame their pride would never allow for something like that to ever happen. They (and we all) still have to pretend that they're equals instead of just admitting the obvious truth and doing handicap races. Was anyone complaining when they put 170 lb on Red Rum or Desert Orchid?
