You've obviously never been to Belgium...
Only the most hardcore Belgian institutions give a nod to the Spanish. They exist. But it's only old school shit.
>>
>>156592201
lil bro, open your European history books, because it's because of the Burgundian dispute that they later became Spanish

Flemings are Catholic. One of the reasons Belgium didn't simply joined the nascent Dutch state was because of the different religious allegiance.

No one views Charles V as a Spaniard. He himself identified with Burgundian court culture, which was a blend of French, Walloon and Flemish influences, and Spain was one of his later acquisitions.
>>
>>156592710
his french motto, plus oultre, was translated to latin and became spain's national motto btw
>>
>>156592201
their whole reason to exist is they were the catholics of the netherlands and stayed loyal to the habsburgs
>>
>>156592201
desu, we don't claim Belgium, kek.

If anything, i'd rather give them Lille, Roubaix and then build a huge wall.
>>
>>156592626
Charles V was born in Ghent, Belgium and grew up speaking French primarily, just like his predecessors
>>
>>156592128
This. It really doesn't fit.

A lot more fitting would be England/Norway would be Rocky and France/Spain would be Drogo. That makes a lot more sense. Particularly France vs England (scientific and seemingly inhuman due to migration and whatever crazy shit they do in those academies) vs (always a trier, has been on the scene a long time unlike Norway and Haaland who are young). It's just a pity there are so many black people on England's team.
>>
>>156592811
everything until boulogne-sur-mer and above roubaix
>>
>>156592824
most european royals spoke french, even the russians
>>
>>156592710
>>156592777
Fair enough.
But if you ask a Belgian, "Why is this beer named Charles Quint or why is this restaurant named Charles," they will say, "after the Spanish king."
You're right about how he identified himself, but I was just pointing out that that's about the only "Spanish" influence still in existence in Belgium.
But yes, you're right.
Didn't know about the motto thing, though.
>>
>>156592916
There's a difference between Russians who adopted French due to prestige, and Charles V who spoke it natively because he was a Burgundian though.
>>
You should be more respectful to the US, or else.
>>
>>156592936
He went as "the Spanish King" because Spain was a kingdom (actually several) and Bravant was a duchy, so he used the most important title.

He was also HRE.
>>
>>156592936
>after the Spanish king
Not everyone is that uneducated.
I've had this discussion with actual Belgians, since I've lived there for three years, and they mostly recognise that he was the prototype for the modern pan-European mystery meat royal.
>>
>>156592443
There is no protestant part, it's strongly catholic and it's wealthier than the south but not whiter tho.
>>
>>156592913

All the chavs, all the barakis, all the pedos, all the unemployed... You can take it aaaalll.

speaking about nationalities when talking about old regime aristocrats is a waste of time, they saw themselves above that, even the peasants didn't care back then, only religion mattered
