The RoboCup Federation has maintained a landmark goal since 1997: to build a team of fully autonomous humanoid robots capable of defeating the reigning FIFA World Cup human champions by the year 2050.

At the RoboCup 2026 tournament in Incheon, South Korea, engineers hosted the first-ever 11 v 11 humanoid robot soccer match on a full-size field hardware setup. In this exhibition match, Germany's B-Human team defeated the HTWK Robots 4–0.
