>What do NFL watchers think of the CFL?
It stinks. It's a bunch of dudes who weren't good enough for the NFL and some weird rules
>>
Nobody thinks about the CFL. Even in Canada there's like a dozen boomers who prefer the ruleset and everyone else realizes it's NFL G-League.
>>
Do they have the long dead times between plays and tons of ads? If it doesnt is better by default
>>
>>156597783
How does the cfl even stay in business? No one people watch this shit.
>>
>>156597783
They got rid of the fun rules. I catch a game every so often during the summer. They are not much worse than the NFL and can probably stand with the UFL.
>>
The rules changes made the CFL an even bigger meme than it already was.
21 weeks, 9 teams, 8 playoff spots. What is even the point?
Also a fun piece of trivia, an American team has won the Grey Cup more recently than a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup.
>>
I like the CFL, I don't like what they're doing to it though.

>How does the cfl even stay in business?
cable channels have to carry Canadian content to get broadcast license
2 of the teams (sask/Winnipeg) have public ownership/financials, similar to green bay
the costs to run a team are low, salary cap is like 5 million and then other expenses are about another 5
tv deal pays about 5 million per team per year, then the league splits grey cup money
most teams get cheap rent from public stadiums, a 56k seat bc place charges like 25k a game
2 of the teams are owned by the ownership group of an NHL team (Toronto/Calgary)
2 of the teams have billionaire owners who are ok with losing a few million (Montreal/Hamilton)
bc and Edmonton have rich, but not billionaire owners
ottawa is the odd one out, the team exists because the city let property developers buy land from the city, in exchange for running a team there

play clock is 25 seconds instead of 40, no mandatory ads after possession change, there's still dead time and ads, but less

>It's a bunch of dudes who weren't good enough for the NFL and some weird rules
the different rules means it's a different skill set, mountain west air raid style offenses works best instead of more sec/big 10 pro style offence
one time 3/9 starting QBs went to eastern Washington and another guy was from Montana

6 teams make the playoffs, genius.
>>
>>156598501
>21 weeks, 9 teams
odd number of teams means to schedule byes and not have a team play twice in one week means the season has to be stretched out
>8 playoff spots.
owners being greedy, but playoff games are the only sell outs for most teams
>>156598541
it seems like they're trying to make it more NFL/NCAA style, it's unclear why, but the league has a lot more money behind it now then it ever has
>>
>>156598574
they're changing it for next season, just when they have to negotiate new tv deals

>A new playoff format will be used from 2027, echoing the "Final Eight" system used in the Australian Football League (AFL). The top two teams in each division face off in the "division showdown" round, hosted by the first placed team in the division, with the losers of each match competing against the winners of the play-in round (consisting of the top four remaining teams in the standings) in the "elimination games". The winners of the division showdown games host the winners of the elimination games in the Grey Cup semi-finals for the right to compete in the Grey Cup game, now held on the first Sunday of November following the start of the season being pushed up to Victoria Day weekend.

8 teams next season, dummy.
>>
>>156597783
Lame. They would cheat American teams
In the grey cup. Fuck Canada.
>>
>>156597783
It’s like football but played in front of an entire stadium of queers
>>
All I think of is the Tim Tebow CFL Chronicles by Jon Bois. Absolute ludokino if you haven't read it, I think sbnation still has it up.
>>
>>156598775
But enough about MLS
>>
>>156598775
Lots of good folk support the CFL in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
>>
>>156598789
MLS is the #3 pro league by attendance
>>
>>156597783
We don't
>>
>>156598805
That's a lot of queers
>>
>>156598910
But enough about KC Chiefs fans
>>
>>156597783
I've never seen a CFL game, I should watch a few just to learn the difference.
>>
>>156597783
For me it’s CFL hall of famer and Calgary Stampeder, Doug Flutie.
>>
>>156598566
They used to same the same about basketball btw
>>
>>156599150
They don't have a 4th down
>>
>>156597783
It's unwatchable.
