Also, only the upper-left picture is somewhat comparable to that (and probably also should have been a red). The others are a regular foul from the front where the player missed the ball and made contact with the shin (would need to be looked at) and a contact from an arguable dangerous play situation. A situation that's actually somewhat comparable to Messi's foul is Balogun's, which did result in a red card after VAR stepped in. But, of course, you will probably not admit that that one was a justified red, will you?

Correct. The only examples I can think of when it comes to a knee in a face would be:

A) Literally nothing, when the knee makes accidental contact during normal movement while the other player runs into said knee or falls onto it or something similar (like Higuain did).

B) Dangerous play, if a player manages to raise his knee enough during some kind of kung-fu kick for it to make contact with another players chin, and that other player was already close enough when the kick was initiated. Mind you, that is a strict requirement, high legs alone are not dangerous play if there is no one around that would be endangered by it.

C) Unsportsmanlike behaviour + violent conduct, namely when it's aggrevated assault. Like, a player already being down on the ground and another coming along and kneeling on his face just to hurt him.

I really cannot conceive of a situation with a knee/chin contact that might actually happen on-field where it would be considered a regular in-game foul. Maybe if the player in question challenged for a ball, missed it, the other slipped and fell, and then the player how missed pulled is leg back quickly and put his knee forward, sliding into the fallen guy's chin. But that still wouldn't be "serious". That would require something like the offender going in with his studs exposed. Which is kinda impossible if you're leading with your knee.

Yes, but reffing on the field is actually somewhat difficult and most refs are shit, then VAR looking at everything in slow motion just makes it even worse. As for the slap, seeing that in real time probably just looked like incidental contact. Reffing kids that stuff happens all the time and I’ve never blown a whistle for it
