In 2018 it was the best. Var was just something used for offsides and pens sometimes. VAR became shit the moment it started being used for EVERYTHING. Its why so many goals get called off now because every corner kick or cross gets put into microscopic view of who pushed who so they can call the goal off (but only when they want to).

A big reason why it's shit is because it's also done a great job of exposing the retarded rules of this sport to the whole world. Literally no way to appeal a potentially tournament-ending red card from an uppity ref so you get the Balogun controversy, it's not a goal if the ball's shadow hasn't crossed the line or some shit, you aren't allowed to cover your mouth on the field, "mistaken identity", etc.
