in football its called the "two minute warning" (or the "two minute timeout" in college)
in baseball its called the "seventh inning stretch"
in hockey they just have extended breaks at the first appropriate whistle after the 6/10/14 minute marks to allow for hydration
in basketball they just stuff 10 in them in the last 2 minutes of the game I think

I think the NFL would be much improved if we could make each quarter a break and no commercials until then. Not sure if its possible.
