He actually did the right thing and waited, since like in example 2, he's drawn the defender in, limiting what the defender can do if he does pass it to Haaland. At that point, he should have either played a straight pass behind the defender, or lobbed the ball over his legs, but he was obviously indecisive and that cost him.
