Honestly, while we would get more teams, it wouldn't be as good as the 48 team format. You would just end up with the same issues as the 32 team format: 2 teams in every group go out and everyone knows who those two teams are (with the exception of one or two groups). The third place tiebreak adds some jeopardy into the mix that made the group stage more exciting
