>>156702357As much as people bitch about VAR already, I think it should have more power, at least in big tournaments like these where they can afford lots of assistants. If a player believes that they're fouled, they just raise their hand in a certain gesture while continuing the play. VAR sees that and immediately watches the replay, and if they sniff a foul the on-field ref gets a signal blow his whistle. Much like the way calling for a handball works already, no one needs to fall to the ground screaming for those to be checked and called.The reason they flop is that they have no confidence in the referee detecting minor fouls without a wildly exaggerated performance, and currently VAR doesn't have the authority to intervene apart from specific scenarios. If players start feeling confident that fouls will be called without the flop, they won't do it, and if enough fouls are called consistently maybe they'll stop fouling so much too.
