Similarly, we can infer Team D is worse than all the other teams and we can rank them 4th. However there is no way to determine who is better between Team B and C, since they have not played each other and there is no conclusion that can be drawn based on the assumed transitive properties of the other results. Therefore, it is impossible to determine which team should be ranked 2nd and 3rd. The only thing the "loser match" in this scenario determines is which team should be ranked 4th, hence the suggestion to rename it to a "fourth-place match" instead.
