American sports are generally unskilled, that's why you talk about being an "athlete" so much. Basketball ok maybe has a bit of skill to it, but the height and speed is overarching in the NBA. Football isn't like that, it's skill-based with athleticism playing an obvious part.

Also at 18 you may be able to compete on the highest level in soccer, but for us you need to go through college first. So your career really starts around 22 in the NFL. The reason soccer will never be popular in the US is strictly because you eurofags made the sport into a regular flopfest so kids growing up in the US don't want to turn into queers so they go play anything else.
