>former English Premier League chief football officer Tony Scholes has been hired as president of the newly-created top division of the United Soccer League, called USL Premier. The Championship and League One will play below that.

Any EPL lads wanna weigh in on Scholes? Is/was he any good?

The only league with cache is the MLS and it’s not part of the USL.

Also, MLS owners who bought their teams knowing they were in a non-pyramid system will never accept this.

Dont think they have a say in the USL m7
>>
don't understand the structure 2bh, is the USL completely separate from the MLS and basically a rival?
>>
>>157053744
At the moment, yeah
USL and MLS are both technically competing entities. But their signed clubs do play in the US Open Cup, which I guess is the equivalent of the FA Cup in England
>>
>>157053744
Yes two separate things the MLS is a closed franchise while the USL is setting up a proper pyramid with something like 180 clubs
>>
>>157053826
Do they have the resources to compete with the MLS? So far that’s where the owners with money are. Salah is likely signing in the MLS soon too.
>>
I can't envision any scenario this actually works. Relegation makes sense when clubs have a long history of being deeply embedded in a community. For a brand new league? Forget it.
>>
>>157053744
it's like the ABA and NBA in the 70s
>>

Arsenal wasn't a 140 year old club 140 years ago. they've all got to start somewhere.
>>
>>157053404
MLS is going to die because of this
>>
>>157056067
I doubt it. USL is gambling that this will increase viewership but most Americans simply aren’t dialed into US soccer
>>
>>157053354
>mutts finally understood that any league without relegations is a Mickey Mouse one

good
>>
>>157056173
Thought experiment: create a closed franchise league with enforced parity in any country with a pyramid system where the top flight is comparable to the current quality of the MLS
>>
>>157056236
Does Mexico converting from a pyramid system to a closed system count?
>>
>>157056428
Sorry, I meant in competition to. So there’s two leagues. For example if you went to Belgium and started a 14 team closed league with a salary cap
>>
>>157056230
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>157056944
I think you'd have to find a sport that's not on solid ground to begin with. Like if you had a Belgian Hockey league that was closed and another that was a pyramid. If you tried a closed soccer league in basically any part of Europe you'd be rightfully laughed out of the room. You can't compete with that much tradition and built in support.
