As in raw sugar? Got this from durianrider, was dubious but drink mixes are extoritionate. Used to do 50g worth of sugar a bottle with a fizz tab electrolyte. It works wonders. The only thing I noticed is I needed to also eat something substantial with complex carbs because it is very short term energy. For me a couple gulps last 20 minute where I feel great but then if I don't replenish I fall off FAST. But that might be pre-diabetes because alcohol consumption. Longer rides where you can't store a lot of fluids, I would be cautious because it doesn't fill that hydration itch but for a sub 2hr ride I felt it was perfection if I was doing threshold etc. You just need to make sure to brush teeth afterward for obvious reasons, sometimes you come back with rough teeth.
>>
>>157201419
>You just need to make sure to brush teeth afterward for obvious reasons, sometimes you come back with rough teeth.
I mean, if you have salted water in your bottles I suppose you can rinse your mouth with that after every sip of sugar?
>>
>>157201450
Mixing the sugar with quite warm water to make it into a syrup basically, that is sticking to your teeth no matter what. I'd come back and brush my teeth straight away. The same with the gels I had, it's pretty grim on reflection. Unless you're doing training training, like intervals and threshold, I would bake flapjaks and put in salt or use salted butter, ground up seeds and some dry fruit. Only really necessary on longer rides anyway.

It's a pretty good hobby for older men, because cycling doesn't hurt the body that much (compared to sports that require running), and you can take it as far as you can -- you can just do slow relaxed rides or push yourself really hard

It's either cycling or padel or walking football
>>
>>157201687
Sorry to double post but I just wanted to add that women can be dentists too
>>
>>157201489
It's a disgusting, uncomfortable sport and if you actually train for it you are constantly tired and run down. Then when you get fitter you become less tired so you train more because your body can cope. It's an cost fallacy sport because you put everything into it and if you don't utilise it, that's years of effort to waste. When I was a teen I'd have nightmares that I'd stopped cycling. Borders on mental illness for many people I believe but few realise it. It's a compulsive obsession. I'd be out at 9pm sprinting up the road after doing roller sessions, my dad locked my bike to his classic car once I finished my scheduled sessions. But every moment is like a drug.

It's a very unhealthy sport, most endurance sports are. Running is a petri dish for anorexics.
>>
Not to mention saddle sores and saddle discomfort that cuts blood from your genitals and mutilates your gooch. Women deform their fannards just to ride a bike. Their fannards are basically sacred yet they let it get absolutely obliterated like urska on a thursday night in cameroon. The sport is deeply rooted in mental illness and obsessive tendencies. And even today financial compensation for your efforts at a professional level is very low unless you're in the 1%.
>>
>>157201859
I mean I get what you're saying... and doping is just the cherry on top. But truthfully, 40 hours of manual labour takes a very similar toll on the body. This "new" fueling science is very relevant for anyone who is even moderately active.

i wonder if cyclists actually live longer on average, isn't vo2 max like one of the key indicators of longevity?

Until today's news I legitimately did not think about Roglic since before the Tour. Like, as the tdf was happening I didn't think once about whether or not he might be on the Bora squad, whether he or Remco would be captains, if he chose to skip the race or if they left him out on purpose. Totally memory-holed the guy.
>>
>>157202036
I'm told that cycling may not actually be beneficial for heart health, and there's probably people that die in traffic accidents that bring the average down. But staying active should be beneficial to long life
>>
>>157202036
This is something I wonder about for years. I hear often that endurance athletes get diabetes which is of course treatable. But 6% bodyfat is unhealthy. Putting so much food through your gut is unhealthy. They're not pushing baby watts obviously, so that's putting stress on soft tissue and joints. How often are they actually hydrated? Because we see the sweat marks on them often, we see riders in the bin at the end of stages very often.

But on the flip side their heart is obviously strong, possibly overworked, and their body has build a tolerance to hormonal imbalance, low testosterone, heat etc etc. I I haven't looked into it but my pseudo science is as follows

>cats do fuck all
>live to 20
>eat very high protein diets
>dogs are hyperactive
>more muscular
>expend far more calories in their lifetime
>die at 15 at best

Obviously it's a middle point of biological efficiency I'd imagine, and the cat/dog comparison has many flaws but as long as the body is healthy, I cannot imagine excessive workload is of any benefit.
>>
>>157202036
not with the carb overdosing these days. can't be good for long term health

Gone full circle, just realised football fans are the most retarded spasticated moron freaks on the planet. They are what I imagine poogacar fans are. Toxic positivity, sycophantic, delusional, hypersocial, performative. Would burn every one of these grotty little cunts alive if I could. ANGRY!
>>
Just started riding, got a domane sl5 gen4, think i got cucked on the 105 thing not being electric. My lower back and shoulders are rekt after a 60km ride at 27km/h. Guess that’s normal for now. Anyways maybe random question but do you guys ride when it’s raining? Cause some years it rains a lot here, people just keep the bike stored away all winter or what?

True belgians only ride when it's raining (or snowing)
>>

>>
>>157203196
Depends on the general weather. Some drizzling is fine. Wind gusts and showers is not so fun.
If it's too shitty, you just ride on de rollen bert.
>>
>>157203196
I ride all year long. I used to commute 60km per day all seasons all weather. Riding in the rain is "fine", it's just a tad more annoying because you have to be more cautious riding, it will get into your eyes and can be really bothersome. Your road bike doesn't have fenders so the water sprays up into your face and back. If you have hydraulic disc brakes at least your braking isn't affected though. It means you have to do more bike maintenance (always clean your chain & regrease after rain, or it will gather rust) and your clothes and shoes will be wet and it's just a huge pain to wash and use the next day, and overall it's less fun, but ultimately riding in rain (except in winter) isn't that bad
>>
>>157203320
Guess I’ll go to the gym or run when it rains then, cleaning it after training hard sounds like a pain in the ass
>>
>>157203196
Rain as >>157203320 says is not ideal. A lot of dedicated riders will have a 'winter bike' i.e. a bike for rain which is cheap and usually aluminium. But if that's not possible then you shoud get chain cleaning set at a minimum and some chain lube. Better if you learn to take off the chainset and cassette. It's all easy no harder than building a PC. Your BB should be fine inbetween services at a store unless you ride in sand or salty roads which you do not want to do at all for obvious reasons.

Non electric gears is really not that bad IMO. I prefer non electric. I see no benefit unless you're a lazy home mechanic. Adjusting gears is simple. Plenty of videos. Cables can be a bit of a pain if internally routed. But it's no big deal. I'd never ride with DI2 if given the choice. Glad you're enjoying it. Pain goes away after a few weeks. If it doesn't get a fit.

the question is where you want to watch these races and how you will get around. Amstel should be easier, as you could get accomodation across the border in Liège or Aachen (Vaalserberg is on the outskirts of Aachen) if necessary. But in general I don't think you should have any problem finding accomodations so far into the future.
>>
>>157207777
Nice digits and thanks.
I did do some planning for spring classics last winter but didn't go for it.
best plan is fly to Brussels with my bicycle and cycle around for a week to catch PR and then Amstel Gold before flying home. Good to know that accommodations unlikely to be booked >year in advance

Well like I said, the last two editions of this race had nobody who did the Tour in the top finishers and the last winner who came from the Tour was Powless in 2021. So it's been exactly the opposite of domination, but obviously the sample size of a few years is small and trends change.

I went down to 98 credits to pick Mas over Carapaz because I didn't believe in someone who went all out in the Tour, but clearly that was the wrong decision.

I would assume so if there's a woman that is talented and trains at the same level as a man.
But I don't know shit about ultra trail.
Usually a lot less females do sports hence there's a smaller pool of talent to begin with.

I buy bulk maltodextrin and fructose and combine for a 1:0.8 ratio. There is some differing advice in the ratio but all in the same neighborhood I believe. I don't do the sugar flask because it seems cooking it up seems like a bit more pre-ride work than I care to do; so I just put whatever amount of carbs I'm targeting in my bottles for the ride. I do anything from 70-100g per hour this way. For example, a two hour summer endurance ride I will drink two bottles and put 70g in each. A cooler endurance ride I might get three hours out of two bottles so I just divide my total carb goal by two and mix the bottles. Sometimes I misjudge the temperature and my resulting thirst and regret having combined hydration and fueling as I end up needing to drink move volume than I would have but almost all of the time this works great. I also add 1/4 sodium citrate (not as much salty flavor as regular salt) per bottle when its hot and less if its cooler, much less scientific about the salt. Longer rides I will stop for water and just carry bags of the carb to mix. On a personal note I have found I really do like to eat something light also on long rides, so I also take one Stinger waffle per hour or the Maurten carb bars which are really easy to eat for being so high in carbs.

but i'm excited for this degustation anyway as i've never had suisse wine before

Problem:
> Large part of female athletes in male dominant sports are basically semi-males, want to be males or are lesbians (male side of the couple)
> They believe they deserve the same attention (and money) as the male athletes despite bringing inferior performances to the table
> Actual real woman do not care for sports so their target audience are males, who already watch the male variant of the sport

In summary:
> Males in a female body, want real males, to threat them as equal real men, despite the fact that they are not

Solution:
> Make the sport mixed, if they're good enough they'll be picked up by a team. The ones that aren't good enough, can organize smaller races on their level, just like juniors and amateurs.

New problem:
> They will not accept this because they believe they deserve the same attention (and money) as the male athletes despite bringing inferior performances to the table

I'm getting stuck in a loop. Any other ideas?

yeah tasty but I gotta be careful with it because I have done a little damage to my teeth using too much lemon; they get a little rough. Luckily I caught it before it became a habit and didn't fuck up my teeth permanently. The acid is corrosive if the concentration is a little too strong.
