It's not true but either way it doesn't matter as he's been told he must resign or he'll be fired. The usual reason people resign is to save an enquiry and battle, thereby keeping his integrity into the future as someone who didn't try to shamelessly cling on. The downside would be relinquishing all chance of holding on (not applicable here) and possible admission of some wrongdoing. It's just optics, makes no difference one way or another whether he resigns. My guess is he will resign over the next few days with a statement talking about the events in an extremely euphemistic way and how he is very grateful for the experience and hopes to bring such a successful career to new pastures. Also making it sound like it was his decision to leave as they had a difference in their visions for the future of FIFA and it was time for him anyway.
