RUGBY LEAGUE
>>157216228Its called XIII you chud
Do you think los pumas will give the boks trouble? They’re sending quite a strong squad, all things considered
>>157216481Trouble 100% i dont see a draw or a win for los pumas, and media been destroying contepomi so that might have an effect
>>157218592That's a lot of rugby
>>157219789There is more

>>157231571I watched the highlights and what a game against auckland i didnt know npc was kino
>>157232893Who?
>>157223606I watched England play a team in Newcastle Australia when I was really young. Gone are the days
>>157232893He looked shit against that Russian guy. No chin left.
>>157235173I watched los pumas vs allblacks as a kid in 2016 and i wish i enjoyed that moment more than i did>>157235217He won tho
Bump
>>157232893Did he die?
rugby just needs to speed up the game so ball in play time is 45+ minutes.
>>157242214From my time watching league, those 40 minutes fucking fly by, union needs to make it feel like that
>>157242269League had 100 years of tinkering with the rules to make it easier to watch as a spectator before union turned pro, which is 30 years ago now. If making union better means turning it into league then they may as well join league sooner than later, and it means there may have to be another schism between where amateur rugby stays as it is and pro rugby joins league. The more I think about it the less sense it makes that union didn’t and haven’t reached out to league about a re-amalgamation
I mean if the whole split was about professionalism in the first place and union is now professionalism then it’s obvious that union has to become league. It’s like if there’s an empire and a civil war occurs and then there’s still the empire but now there’s also a breakaway republic which thrives for a century and then the empire itself adopts the republican ideology, now everyone is a republican so why not have one big strong republic
>>157242289Wow dont get carried away, you cant compare nrl to six nations or the world cup dont act like league is bigger its not, it not more viewed eitherAnd i meant maybe copy their clock going down instead of up, or some minor rule change to make it faster not getting rid of scrums or line outs like league
Union only became professional because of the failure of apartheid in South Africa. It’s interesting because league never took hold in South Africa because of apartheid and the refusal of league people to not boycott that system. Because of the isolation in South Africa union was able to operate within a basically closed system, but once apartheid ended and the boycott was lifted there were South African players going to Australia to play league
>>157242309By the time union went professional league rules were just too different, i dont want them to fuse, i want it to not be code wars and maybe copromote each other, if they fuse someone dies most likely league since union is way bigger
>>157242311League has scrums you tard and the clock going up or down makes no difference
>>157242342They have "scrums"
>>157242337If league was going to die because of union it would’ve happened already. They’ve both been professional for 30 years now and league is unironically stronger now than it was then. You’re overestimating how much bigger union is because you’re focusing on the international stuff which league generally doesn’t care about and doesn’t organise properly. If you compare the actual club competitions league is much closer to union. There’s two major professional league competitions; the nrl in Australia, and the Super League in England. Both of those are objectively bigger than anything union has outside of the two biggest club competitions in union; the French pro14, and the English premiership
>>157242347They have scrums, they have laws pertaining to scrums. The current trend of forwards taking a breather at scrums and not contesting the ball is a gentleman’s agreement. Anyway, union scrums are a fucking joke lately so I don’t know why you’re arguing about scrums when both codes are doing a shit job with them. Lineouts are stupid
>>157242378adding to this I’d contend that the NRL is the biggest club rugby competition in the world, probably pro14 is next, and then the two English competitions are pretty close to each other
dont watch league coz i'm not an aucklander or australian
>>157242378The rugby world cup is literally a 1000x bigger than the league world cup, go compare how many countries play union and how many play league, And yes the nrl is bigger but thats cause its concentrated in one big league, club union is divided in 4/5 top leagues No superleague is not bigWhy does it hurt you, just accept union is bigger, its a fact
>>157244361I said union is bigger. I also said Superleague is comparable in size to English premiership. Would you agree the French top14 is the biggest club union competition? Would you also agree that the NRL is a bigger competition than the French top14? The union World Cup is bigger than the league World Cup primarily because international league isn’t organised properly, it’s been shit for the last 30 years. I agree Union is played in more countries but league is also far more popular in most of the countries it’s seriously played in compared to union. A lot of the reason why union is more popular in many countries is because they don’t yet know rugby league. Basically my fundamental argument is that union should not be professional as a separate code, if union wants to be professional it should join league
>>157246871>I also said Superleague is comparable in size to English premiershipComparable not bigger>Would you also agree that the NRL is a bigger competition than the French top14?Yes>primarily because international league isn’t organised properlyNope its cause its not played across enough countrys to have a competitive world cup>league is also far more popular in most of the countries it’s seriously played in compared to union. Not true for england france or new zealand>if union wants to be professional it should join leagueNot really union is already professional and growing, you know they get paid for the six nations and other international competitions right? And just the six nations is bigger than nrl and state of origin combined
I really like league just to clarify and i want it to keep existing
>>157251138>i want it to keep existingI don't, Rugby is a horrible sport that causes brain damage.
>>157255292Current rugby union its really safe for the brain, maybe league its a bit more for the upright posture but neither code its anything close to boxing or nfl levels of cte
Last bump if it doesnt make it to fryday so be it
harbour v counties tonight
>>157255612It's likely a lot more nuances than than. The NFL helmets encourages players to use themselves as missiles and the hits are bigger. I'm sure there's some underreporting going on, too. Guys want to go out there and play. On the other hand between the longer seasons internationals rugby athletes play way more games. They also have less subs and more game time. I don't know enough to know if underreporting is a big thing in rugby.
>>157261228There is just less head trauma, pic rel is an average tackle, its below the shoulder line soon the sternun line, there is less speed most times since attacker and defender are closer to each other, only the person handling the ball gets tackled,And the nfl guys just try to end the play as fast as possible and for the guy to not gain ground, if they did rugby tackles they could fall fowards and the guy gain some ground
>>157261228There is been lots of cte cases but rules have changed a lot, that new sternum rule is an example, they check for concussions in field and limit the amount of games of the playersIts curious league tackles are more like nfl tackles, cause of a more upright posture and the stop them gaining ground thing
>>157242289Baseball is the most traditional sport in America. There was nearly universal disapproval about plans to speed up the game. They introduced a pitch clock. Now there is nearly universal approval for how they sped up the games.
in my country, no one knows what this sport is
>>157262033what country are you from that has an identical flag and name to mine
rip counties
>>157262071Your Aus neighbors have told me it's called Poo Peeland
>>157255612>Current rugby union its really safe for the brainIt isn't. >>157261643>its below the shoulder line soon the sternun lineIt's still bad, the brains of both the attacker and defender hit the inside of their skulls due to forces applied to their heads from the tackle.
>>157263146based Harbour putting it up the southsiders
why does auckland get 3 teams in the npc
>>157263235Believe what you want bro, its not even close to boxing and there are boxers that never get cte>>157263384Maybe they would be too strong in all in one team?

>>157273562for me staying up until 5 is easier than getting up at 5
>>157273562I want to say yes, so thread is active tommorow but problably no, save it for the actual boks games or the bulls one could also be kino
>>157218592People still really look down on JRLO? The best southern hemp players play there (for money ofc) and attenadnce always go above expectations especially for a still developing Tier 1 nation like Japan

>>157273976>went to five of these gameswhere the FUCK does the time go lads?
What are these start times? I am not waking up at 5am to watch us beat the poormers
>>157274066normal kick off time in the local time zone
>>157274089There’s nothing normal about playing in South Africa Ban these niggers from the planet
>>157274106we've been playing them there since 1928
>>157274089No way sa its that far away that they couldnt make it a good time for bothThey problably didnt care and the actual boks games will be a better time for you
>>157274117back then the tours were so full of local matches>>157274118it's normal to have kick off at the local time, when italy and france and ireland played us here recently we didnt start at weird times for their sake
>>157274117Then we can play those niggers at a normal start time
I agree with local times for tours. For tournaments like the World Cup there needs to be some concessions for viewership though because of financial considerations. For tours the focus has to be on the local crowd attendance
>>157274118>the actual boks games will be a better time for youis 3am "better" than 5am

Japan good or Australia bad?
Owari da
Australia bad.
I'm ashamed Australia needs the ref carry to win this. there was a pretty clear knock in that lead up to Australia's last try.
>>157288931It's also the awful decision making. 9 points in penalties in front of the posts they could have taken. Got nothing instead.
>>157288907A bit of both. Wallabies have better athletes, but they just can't seem to produce consistent, cohesive performances up to their potential Whereas Japan's don't have the same stock, but they are more disciplined and drilled in their ball handling
wallabies didn't deserve to win that
>les kiss les kiss les kissOk ok I heard ya. I don't even know who he is nor watch union much
>>157288952Yeah that gets me scratching my head too. See, if the Boks are playing this Japanese team - they'll just bank the threes, and opt for scrum or maul drive - and by the 50th min they'll probably force the Japanese to concede a yellow - and then they'll go to town spreading the ball wide. If the Wallabies can use the same strategy - they'd have won by 14 at least. But it's only Les Kiss' first game, so we'll just have to wait a bit and see where he wants to take this team
>>Pumas don't play the ABs this year, they play the Boks once, and they get the Wallabies twiceWhat kind of weird arrangement is this?
