>>1572239453 relegation spots are too lenient for a 20-club league. Having 4 makes every season a genuine threat, even for the biggest clubs. We don't see shit clubs like Everton ever get relegated because of that.
>>1572240944 relegation spots to MLS with 4 smaller regional leagues that would promote smaller rivalries>West>South>Midwest>NortheastEach relegated team gets put into the closest league to their region and one team is promoted per region, sure this may end up with your occasional "Milwaukee in the West" or "Philadelphia in the South" but it will create support for those midtable lower division teams by making the threshold of entry lower and making away day travel more feasible.
Exactly like the UK. I can't seem to care about play offs, different league stages for the top 4 teams, or anything that differs from the standard, big 5 league format. So that's non negotiable for me.In other countries there's no equity between states or cities, ironically you are sport commies by putting salary caps and making sure there isn't more than one big franchise per state or whateverIn the top league, if there are 4 teams from New York and no teams from Ohio, then it's just the way things are. Soccer fans from Ohio will have to be happy with watching their team fighting for promotion in the 3rd tier. Obviously the National Cup would be similar to other countries, but you could explore a different format with the League Cup .

So if the clock counting down at 9:46 turns red, that means, traditionally speaking "you're in stoppage time".Recognize divegrass and refball are existential threats to the sport. The number 1 priority in all official booth review is to diagnose diving/embellishment and to issue a straight ejection on first instance, meaning the player can be replaced. No hitting/punching or holding of fabric, hair, or body parts, but anything else goes. Allow basketball style screens, pick & rolls, etc, and I want to occasionally see someone running around not knowing they're bleeding and causing an infectious disease prevention timeout.Another thing: zero politics, no gay faggot shit, if possible all local food & drink. >>157223561>By 1924, the combination of excellent pay and a high level of play drew talented overseas players, especially from Scotland and England, with 50 European internationals good enough to play for their national teams playing in the ASL. This led to a significant amount of resentment in Europe and threats of sanctions from FIFA, including the possible expulsion of the USFA.>However, resentment continued to simmer between the league and governing body. Matters came to a head in 1928, when the ASL decided to again boycott the Challenge Cup. When three ASL clubs, most prominently Bethlehem Steel, defied the league and entered the cup anyway, the ASL suspended them. In response, the USFA and FIFA declared the ASL an "outlaw league". This sparked the "soccer war".>However, the Soccer Wars had permanently crippled the ASL and it collapsed at the end of the 1933 spring season. Ironically, while USFA and FIFA "won" the wars and established their pre-eminence over the ASL, the spectacle of a U.S. athletic association conspiring with a European organization to undermine a U.S. athletic league alienated many U.S. sports fans by creating an image of soccer as a sport controlled by foreigners. These fans turned their backs on soccer, relegating the sport to the position of a minor league, ethnic-based sport for decades to come.Honestly we probably dodged a massive bullet here, bunch of fucking rats even back then.
>>157223707>>157223856The real main reason is that the league is about performance over the whole year and about playing everyone. I mean sometimes you have situations where team a can beat team b, and team b can beat team c but team a struggles against team c and sometimes loses to them. Rock, paper, scissors situations like that can happen in sport and knockouts pretend they don't exist. The only possible advantage to the playoff system is the games are more recent, but first of all do you philosophically want that, a year's league is a year, if you wanted that you could just alter the league system to give more points for recent results. Also perhaps more applicable to football than American sports is that a great team must be able to put away poor and mediocre teams. Otherwise teams will have more incentive to set up like Spain with little attacking flair. When games against bad teams matter just as much they are forced to focus more on breaking down the opposition, leading to more exciting games overall.
why do yuros hate playoffs and love pro/rel so much?

>>157224275because we're just more of a rugby country. soccer is only liked in countries that didn't really have any other major sport to contend with it, with the sole exception being England. any country that had another sport option for kids to play in youth leagues, soccer is usually the second or third most popular sport. the US is no different, we just happen to have a solid five alternatives for kids to play (football, basketball, baseball, hockey, golf) so they all went into one of them instead. >>157223505no amount of money thrown at a professional league is ever going to make the sport genuinely popular here, what makes a sport take root is support for grassroots/youth leagues. and after about the junior (9-12 year old) level, only girls' soccer gets any support here. we'd have to do something like what Brazil does, with both a state and international league structure. each state has their own league with varying numbers of teams (Rhode Island for example probably could only support 5 or so teams in a single league structure, whereas California could easily have 30+ with promo/rele), and the top teams from each state also get berths into an interstate league. so a 50 team Interstate League, with say 5 tiers.

>>157232783>>157223505Oh shit, just realized you said blank slate kekUh... I wouldn't change much from what I said except I wouldn't have USL and MLS be a thing at the same time. Instead I would have the top league be a cup between multiple MLS-like leagues which operate only in their own regions and share revenue between them. Like Conferences, but they don't interact. This way it would mimic what Brazil had before the enshittification: state leagues, regional tournaments and a national cup between the best teams of each. This guarantees that each region will have their own big boys, and then when they eventually get too big and you merge them, you will have many big boy teams that can beat the shit out of each other. I imagine with the salary cap and draft stuff of American leagues that system would be even more balanced. I believe that's ideal for a continental country.

I'd import hundreds of millions of people from countries that love soccer. Then I'd let nature take its course.
The problem with the MLS is that its not the best of the best and sports in america is overinflated with many great options. Whenever europe decides to stop pretending to have integrity for the game and does the world super league, having MLS teams host real madrid and manchester united will do more to spread the game than any academy

>>157226174You can still have your losing a random game making you a meme in stuff like the Champions League
Make something like little league world series for soccer and have it on TV in the earlier part of summer. Ditch the training academies in favor of cheap local small group drop-in training ($5-$10/head) and cheap local (non-travel) leagues (<$250/season) until kids are around 12 then they can start playing for middle and high school teams. Stop with the $5000/year 15-level pyramid local club travel teams for kids that will burn out before they hit 14. Good players will be very easy to identify, but you don't need to worry about them until they are about 14-15 or so. Allow kids to go pro (USL) at 16 if they are good enough, otherwise go to college. Pay the NCAA to promote college soccer more and SEC should have college soccer too. Also, promote the kids that do make it at 16, because you can get paid way earlier than other sports and not have to worry about school if you are really nice.We will have a slightly older (2-3) year difference in pro age, but thats about it. Have high school lacrosse be a different season than soccer so kids can play soccer and do lacrosse or wrestling in the off-season instead of cross country making them a bitch. Anything but cross country.Basically pour money into local youth soccer getting more kids to play and keep them playing until they hit puberty and decide to make it their main sport. The country is too big to make nearly a thousand soccer private schools. We already have two competing pro leagues plus pro indoor soccer too. Let MLS and USL continue to do their thing. I watch USL when baseball is not on because it comes on the same channel.
another thing i see is moving up game modes too quick, another year of 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 could really help the middle kids that haven't hit their growth spurt, which leaves them behind

>>157223505It will never happen because football is an answer to the question "how do you have fun as a child when you have limited space and no money?" hence why it is popular in cramped cities. In America they have space fucking everywhere. It's actually too big, even the cities are too biv for football to thrive. In many European cities a kid can leave his front door with a football and immediately find 5 kids who will want to play just on his street. An American child leaves his house with a ball and has to walk 50 metres just to get to his closest neighbours houseSo really if you have unlimited money you invest in making American cities as dense and cramped as possible
>>157237759Europoor cope. Americans being able to kick a ball around their own yard is an advantage if we ever start caring about soccer.

>>157237759dude wtf are you talking about. basketball???
>>157237759>An American child leaves his house with a ball and has to walk 50 metres just to get to his closest neighbours houseIn America it's basketball, kids have hoops at their houses and at least when I was growing up as a 'kid' (10 to 18 years old) from 2002-2010, you'd leave your house with your basketball and bike to your neighbors house where everyone was playing, or the local rec center, or the park. It's why we dominate everyone in basketball, basketball is the American 'soccer' for all intents and purposes. Same with American football, we'd play two hand touch in the streets or go to ansoccer field and play tackle football there, ironic that we actually would go to soccer fields but never play soccer lmao.
>>157237788Retard. Football is the best sport for having limited space. With lots more space, especially for children, the game loses its appeal. Ywn know the feel of playing football in back alleys, or making a brick wall with spray paint a goal and playing 66 seconds, playing nut meg rush in the street on the way back from school or even just the idle joy of playing kick ups while you wait for your friend to come out. I'm sure with a large back garden there are plenty games more fun than football but in the city there is nothing more fun that football and that's why it will never work in the US, because why play football when you have so much space.

>>157223505You don’t have to do anything. Some washed up stars have joined the mls Messi, Lewandowski, Suarez, and the rest. Hype up the mls on espn, have Stephen a smith screaming and people will go watch the games and kids will go to the games.Americans don’t have a bad system, they literally just don’t care. Have Stephen a and skip do Messi Ronaldo debates.
>buy Time Machine (trademark)>kill Teddy Roosevelt (or convince him to leave football the bloodsport it was for only college men)>promote soccer as pastime for poor people because “all you need is a ball!”That’s what it will take.
>>157223505Depends on what you're trying to achieve. Set up a new system for what? To become the most popular sport there? It's not happening, you can't buy that with money, not in the real world. Want to win a WC? Start giving promising foreign young players citizenship and benefits, build good training facilities for them to develop until a certain age, let them play overseas for big clubs, never stop calling up the best ones for the NT (U-17, U-20, etc). Keep doing this and within 10~15 years you will have real chances at winning a WC.>but they would be just mercenariesWho the fuck cares at this point. Now if you want to have a league like EPL in America then just remove salary and ownership caps, it will take a long time but the market itself will do everything that's necessary.
>>157237693There should be at least one drop in coach per 10k people. No scheduling, just drop your kid off for like 45 minutes and they get to work with small groups for $5/head. $10 goes to the local league, the coach keeps the rest, open coaching like 4-6 nights a week. The coaches are teenagers/college/grad student type deal its a part-time gig that pays pretty well and starts building a coaching pipeline early. I know most of the refs in my area were also kids doing it part-time. There should be a college soccer video game with both men and women's soccer. More soccer media for kids that is US based/focused (no euro shit). Stuff like Friday Night Lights/Varsity Blues/Remember the Titans but for soccer. In TV shows, have the jocks play soccer. Music artists should have lyrics about playing soccer instead of basketball or football. Open Cup needs to be promoted WAY more. For college soccer, you could have an open cup style tournament with juco/D3/D2/D1, plus conference championship, and divisional championship, so three in-season tournaments/hardware/competitions to shoot for.
>>157237857a soccer field and football field are functionally the same size, give or take a few yards. if millions of american kids have no problem finding space for football, the same can be said for soccer.
>>157238879>video gamereal college soccer can't get butts in seats, precisely four people would buy an NCAA soccer game. wake me up when there's a college softball game with a good budget behind it.
All of this is cheaper than trying to build and staff at least one private school per 100k-150k people per metropolitan statistical area. There's about 360 MSAs with at least 100k people. People are talking about trying to find some kid in the middle of nowhere and convince their family to pay for them go to private school at like 10 or 11 in the nearest city the person who runs the academy probably did not even want to live in. MSAs like Chico, Joplin, Yuma, Bowling Green, Evansville, Fargo all need like two academies (if you wanted to build them) or you would be missing out on like six pro players a year.
>>157223707It's an artificial attempt to create higher stakes matches at the expense of finding a rightful winner. It would be pathetic if the Premier League introduced it, for instance.

>>157223505I don't think you can create a fanbase just by pouring money into a sport. It takes time and starting small. You need to cultivate a hobby gradually and let it grow organically. I would choose a state and form clubs by city within that state, then create a state league. I would foster camaraderie among players from different cities, promoting healthy competition—something not too difficult since it's a niche sport. Over time, local sports heroes, rivalries, and more fans would emerge. From there, the sport could expand by pouring money into it.
Instead of trying to built it top down, make it bottom up. Built soccer pitches across the country and encourage young people to play and form teams. Organize local leagues and a national cup in which all teams can take part. As they grow and professionalize, divide the leagues into tiers with relegation and promotion.
>>157243607There's already a national cup like this and nobody cares about it
>>157237857Most of our population lives in urban areas m7
>>157237681Bet you can't find the post (because it only exists in your head, retard)
>>157223505Embezzle the money and run away to a tax haven without extradition
>>157224528based and world peace pilled
>>157243751The players care.
>>157243891right but the lack of interest results in most of the potential best players never getting involved in the sport, which is the primary issue at hand.
>>157223539-Promotion/relegation already exists (USL), but is otherwise financially untenable for our biggest leagues. As other anons have hinted to ITT, the US did have strong leagues historically that functionally disappeared bc of financial problems-regional leagues already exist (I played in one, it’s one step above amateur with most players having played at the collegiate level), but they’re not connected to one giant pyramid -teams are naturally concentrated around cities (hence why most of our national team players come from the same handful of regions/urban areas)-the US open cup is more than a hundred years old, granted, about 40 years younger than the FA cup but there’s still history there-Americans love playoffs because they’re addicted to underdog stories, though I do think that it rewards teams who have a string of mental fuck ups somewhere in their season whereas in most leagues elsewhere, that gets punished by just missing the league titleHaving actually played soccer here, the problem is simply cultural/institutional knowledge at the youth levels. Soccer is THE most popular sport at the youth level despite all the bitching and whining about accessibility, it’s just that nobody knows how to develop kids for the long haul. It’s all about winning, even with 5 yos running around the field like mice. The *only* fix is time. That’s it. You need time for adults who played soccer to raise the next generation of kids to play a bit better then them and then rinse repeat over decades. Nobody seems to talk about this as much as “wahhh soccer is structurally fucked in the US causing our players to not reach their true potential (TM)”. It’s basically the same line of reasoning as black people complaining about institutional racism for all of their problems when it’s simply their own culture holding them back.
>>157244043you're telling me that yet another yurpoor had a strong opinion on this without building the minimum required knowledge of the situation first?
>>157244043>Americans love playoffs because they’re addicted to underdog storiesWhy isn't the US Open Cup more popular then?
>>157244046It’s not just europoors, it’s also other Americans whining about “pay to play” when there already are cheap/free ways for youth to play soccer in the US. I live in a city that’s majority black (St. Louis) and you see plenty of poor black kids playing soccer but in leagues hosted by organizations like the YMCA. The coaching they get is obviously shit-tier, but you can’t fix that with a magic wand. You need time for people to have played to then volunteer in these organizations. But like most problems in the US, people blame some “thing” rather than admitting we simply suck.
>>157244068It IS popular (for people who actively follow/participate in soccer here in the US). Lower tier teams get $$$ and the winner gets a CONCACAF champions league spot.
>>157244074there are cheap ways to play, but there are limited opportunities to get the most out of all the talent. those kids aren't getting high level training at the YMCA.
>>157244086There's no reason to give every kid professional development
>>157244105of course not, but there's a difference between YMCA for 8 year olds and getting the right support for 100s of thousands of pre-teens who are on the cusp of getting really good or not. that's how you maximize a talent pool
>>157243607we do this. there are probably more public free use soccer fields in the country than any other sport. kids use them to play catch or tag football (american kind)
>>157244086>those kids aren't getting high level training at the YMCAI agree, and the only way to fix that is for YOU to volunteer and help. US scouting sucks? Go advocate for the poor kid, talk to their parents and let them know that their child has *it* and that you know some academies that’ll provide a scholarship if they can make it to practice. Maybe pitch in and help their kid get to practice. If you care about youth soccer, then actively try to help.
>>157244115most middle and high schools have a soccer team. that's how kids get into baseball and football here and the NFL and MLB aren't spoiling for players
>>157244135can't stress this enough. It's a big deal that this isn't the sport that kids casually play in the street/pickup in the local field. In the absence of that unstructured skill development, we have to lean on a broken formal system of organized teams, replete with leech ass coaches and people who don't know enough about the sport
>>157244115There's no way to get thousands of kids cheap professional development with professional clubs with senior soccer and we have like 40 of those50 if you're being generous
>>157244168high school is too late. notice how other countries that care abotu baseball seem to punch way above their weight? Notice how NBA is being swamped with foreign talent even though ~15 countires give a fuck about basketball?
>>157244178that's the point of the thread. if there were unliminted budget, then you could have a bunch of training organizations subsidized by magic money in the OP. in the absence of magic money, academies need to rely on revenue that doesn't exist because of limited interest. hence the issue of our team being stuck in the 12-25ish world ranking
>>157244145>i love the national team so i drive strange kids to practicebased grassroots supporter
>>157244043>Promotion/relegation already exists (USL)usl doesn't have pro/rel
>>157244219it will in>2 more years
>>157244198Training organizations would do absolutely nothing without first team minutes
>>157244225it would basically be free to play travel teams, who would in theory compete with academy teams and other clubs of the same ilk
>>157244168those teams are dogshit lol.who are the best american MLB players? and isn't the NBA dominated by foreigners as well?nobody else plays gridiron
>>157244232Again useless because there's still no path to actual professional soccerYou're lacking any mechanism to turn a promising player into a professional one
>>157244248so you're saying there was no path for 75% of our current team to professional soccer? it's the same path that exists today, but it doesn't exclue pre-teens based on income
>>157244257Actually it's much worse than thatLike there's only a pathway for 1% of kids in soccer academies to professional team minutes
>>157244272how is it worse to expand what already exists without removing anything that already exists? of course most players won't make professional teams, that is necessarily the case everywhere in every sport. We're talking about the way to maximize the quality and size of talent pool for high-school age kids who then go finish in the best places possible. you're literally arguing that abandoning many of the 12 year olds is better for the talent pool.
>>157244283Because subsidizing these academies so poor kids can play means instead of improving the soccer skills of future stockbroker you're improving the soccer skills of factory workers and Walmart employeesPretty much every single soccer player in Europe is in a professional club by the time they're 12. Even Jaime Vardy, the working class player, was playing for Sheffield Wednesday when he was 9.
>>157244187not really. no different than little league baseball, and most football players don't pick it up until high school. >>157244237>muh Japanese baseballthey start in middle/high school too, same as us. >foreign NBA playersbecause American basketball revolves around ghetto kids trying to farm clout and highlight reel dunks rather than actually play, so they get fodderised by anyone who bothers to learn fundamentals. the average NBA player today would get his shit pushed in by the likes of Magic or Bird.
>>157244313>insteadincorrect. that's the point. it's not instead. you're subsidizing mostly people with no chance in order to foster the small handful with a chance. it's shocking that this needs to be explained to you. Considering we don't have the interest to have the same number of professional teams, how can you apply hypothetical unlimited funds to replicate that effect as much as possible?
>>157244342you're confused bud. football players who start in high school aren't competing with a world full of players who start at a younger age. And it's noteworthy that many of the good QBs are training from a very young age these days, even if it's not full tackle 11 v 11

The UK does this more than any other country. It'd be one thing if it were private wntities doing it but it's state funded. Doctor Who basically became a mouth piece for gay/tranny ideology and so has your theater, with it's genderswaps and editorialization of the greatest English speaking playwrite to ever exist in Shakespeare. The majority of modern film and television thematic corruption can be traced back to the UK.
>>157244931The thread is about development of football in the US. You've ended up talking about the UK and Doctor Who. Meanwhile most American sports at least pretend to care about competitive balance and have common-sense rules in place to prevent the competition from devolving into who can spend the most, and there are some teams that are still owned by the families who founded them. I would say that we see sports as athletic competition and entertainment, while yuros are living in a delusional dream world where it's still 1973 and a club like Leeds United or Derby County can actually win something at the highest level without needing a miracle.
