Draw for the playoffs is in a few hours. Thought it deserved a thread.

Link for the stream: https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/draws/

We (FC Differdange) shat the bed on the first round so we don't care.
We're more of a cycling nation anyway.

Assuming that GKS makes it through
>40% immediate elimination
>20% unlikely, but possible
>40% not favourites, but doable
One of the most lopsided seeding groups I recall. Kind of worried that UEFA might just draw them against Freiburg to limit drama from Hapoel's participation.

Also, Górnik better beat Ferencvaros or they're screwed in Conference in almost every potential matchup. Raków and Jaga are probably favourites against all potential Conference QR4 rivals. And Lech might potentially meet Aarhus again in ELQ4. Please God, let it happen, because it will be hilarious.
>>
>>157232389
does Poznan still have a chance?
>>
>>157232694
They're playing Klaksvik in ELQ3. If they somehow fuck up again, they'll have a shot in ConLQ4... But no Polish fan would ever forget them losing to the Faroese. They already have to deal with people reminding them of their past eliminations to Stjarnan and Żalgiris any chance they got.

The winner of Mjaellby / Slovan / Ararat / Celje already looks like a dream draw from Pot 4.
>>157233081
>>157233357
Would be a logistical nightmare. Teams would need to arrange transport and lodgings on an extremely short notice. Nevermind the travelling away fans.
Alternatively, we could have longer breaks between the rounds. But since the strongest (and most profitable) federations are already sending most of their entrants directly to the league phase, UEFA doesn't really give a fuck about qualifiers. So they're not going to spare any additional time for all the "minnows".
>>
>>157233078
Europa League it is
>>
>GKS - Atalanta
>Górnik - Monaco
Yeah, this could've gone better.
Górnik drew, in chronological order, Fenerbahce, Ferencvaros, Trabzonspor (as seeded) and Monaco. Someone up there must really hate them.

And that's that.

Also kek at CFR, not only are they unlikely to pass this draw but fate decided to completely remove their chances of ever getting to the groups.

>>
>>157233787
You're probably right. CFR might've had a chance against troonso when they were at their best, but they are in financial collapse currently. They might get a draw out of 2 matches, maybe help the coefficient a bit.

Last chance for Górnik to avoid triple elimination, since they are not going to pass Monaco in Conference.
And Brann vs Apollon looks very tasty in terms of fight for the 14th place, and avoiding the coefficient trap that is 15th.

Uh, the only nickname in that post was "Jaga" for Jagiellonia. Everything else are their legit names. Yes, Polish kinda looks like keyboard mashing to foreigners, we know.
>>
>>157254775
Ah the classic "fall through" tbf Gornik has had tough draws, but maybe this the most doable
>>
GOL

I think it looks possible for Denmark to do that coefficientpoint-farming, 3 teams in comfyrance playoffs got good draws and then AGF could play EL and rack up some points there
>>
Sabah tied with a late equalizer... but goal disallowed by VAR.
Ferencvaros dominated the first quarter, but after the infamous hydration break, Górnik made a few dangerous counters. Overall looks like a 2-1 kind of match so far.
>>
Brann lost, The Cypriots are always underrated it seems
>>
Just as it looked like they had the advantage, Górnik lost a goal by being negligent defending in front of the box. This made them panic and Fradi could've upped the scoreline for the next 15 minutes a few times. Górnik got their shit together around the 80th minute, but couldn't put all that much pressure. They'll have an uphill climb in Zabrze, but the gap in players' skills is not nearly as large as vs Fener. The tie's still open.
Also, Włodarczyk was starting for Sturm? Oh boy. Austrian league really fell off.

What do you think about Rakow. I think Hammarby could be slight favourites in that tie, also given Rakows form. Hammarby are on paper soppose to be the team in squad market value, quality and league position etc.. in Sweden now that Malmö has semi fallen off for 1,5 years. Went into the league as favourites. but if you look at the league we have a bright star rising and outshining everyone ,coming from out of nowhere, being too good for Hammarby and the rest and going for points record. Sirius Uppsala.

Hammarby is a team with a high highest level though that likes to own play and press the opponents down
>>
>>157263223
Oh, this requires a full blogpost. Or two.

Uh, Raków is a troubled team right now. A year ago they were the most reliable, organized team in Poland. This led to them going through the qualis with shit coefficient, then finishing 2nd in the Conference League Phase. This Raków would've been a strong favourite. Not anymore.

Then shit went down. Legia tempted Raków's coach Papszun, considered the lynchpin of the whole project, to join them. This led to a public dispute at the end of the autumn round between Papszun and Świerczewski, Raków's owner. In the end, Papszun left during the winter break and lifted Legia from the relegation zone all the way to 6th, one point away from the last Eurocups spot.

Świerczewski hired Tomczyk, the young coach of 2nd tier sensation Polonia Bytom. He had a good media presence and a very analytical mindset, but the team clearly had trouble moving away from Papszun's rigid game philosophy. Raków immediately bombed out of Conference against Fiorentina with two losses, then lost the QF of Polish Cup to 4th(!) tier Avia Świdnik. In the league, they could not get close to the top despite all other contenders being highly erratic last season.

A few rounds before the season, when it looked like even the Eurocup qualification was in danger, Świerczewki sacked Tomczyk and put in Kroczek as the head coach. The guy had experience in Raków working a analyst, scout and assistant coach, but it's been a while since he was in charge (in another club, at that). He saved the ending of the season, but in a very unconvincing way.

Overall, last round seems to have made Świerczewski more apprehensive with funding his personal vanity project that is current Raków. Their future prospects are heavily debated in Poland right now. Missing out on the league phase would require them to tone down their budget a lot.

TBC in a moment
>>
File: chicken coop.jpg (576 KB, 1800x1012)
576 KB JPG
>>157263285
Then there are two other major factors holding Raków back now. The first is infrastruture. They play qualifiers on their own "stadium", but the object was clearly intended to be... temporary. With most of the large towns in Poland having built modern stadiums this century, Częstochowa sticks out like a sore thumb. Last year, the long-planned construction of a 15k seater in a historical industrial district was finally stopped by the monument protection bureau. Świerczewski is fuming about the lack of investment from the city, given that Raków can't generate much match day revenue on their own with the smallest venue in the entire Ekstraklasa.

The second issue is them weakening their squad. Raków plays with 3 fullbacks, but currently only 3 experienced FBs are available to them. One injury, and they'll be forced to bring on untested youths. Their first goalkeeper Zych went back to England, following the end of the loan, though their reserve Trelowski is still quite good. Their reliable playmaker Amorim refuses to come back to Poland after the end of the season for unpublicised reasons. And to top it off, they just sold their best player, forward Brunes, to Sparta for 6mln Euro without properly replacing him in any way. Decent money, but he was absolutely crucial in the scoring. And you'd think Haaland's cousin would be worth more on marketing value alone.

...one more coming.
>>
>>157263387
All in all, Raków is a team on a downturn, in disarray and with an uncertain future. They will be very highly motivated, but their performance is at best a question mark.

As for the Hammarby match, the common concerns for our media are the usual whenever we face Swedish teams in the summer. Artificial turf, which is unheard of in Ekstraklasa, and the spring-autumn league system meaning they are already in full swing. We generally don't expect our teams to peak with their shape in August already.

Can't talk much about Hammarby squad level, but Sweden seems to have a wide league top with multiple title contenders, last two seasons notwithstanding. Is Sirius a one-time wonder like Mjallby, or are they a larger project?

Just let Portugal overtake you in the ranks. You'd have two teams in play already.
Although we're supposed to have some modifications to the access list next year season anyway. I think the details are supposed to be revealed this month?
>>
>>157263399
Yes this is true, now that malmö are in a macro dip, its more of a group of teams with bigger economies, mostly tradtional big teams (including Malmö ofc but excluding IFK Göteborg since they are really bad in this era) that people are looking towards as main title contenders.. Hammarby,Djurgården,Malmö,AIK and maybe Elfsborg, and >Häcken are non-trad but have been good for a while.

Then ofcourse we have these small teams like Sirius and Mjällby that have been working methodically and with intention for a while, their whole club structures having much patience since they are not big clubs and no real pressure on them from outside and inside. Its the oppsite with whats going on in a club lile IFK Göteborg. Mjällby made a point record last year and Sirius have 13W 2D 0L this season so far. I think it has opened up for this since we have a few big clubs as mentioned that are shareing on the status and economy of being big now that we dont have a stronger Malmö (but tbf i doubt this since they are doing league-point-records). Would be surreal with CL in Uppsala
>>
Hammarby is like the Swedish Hajduk, big fanbase in Stockholm, spend a lot, should be among the best Swedish clubs but they're a perpetual disappointment every year, even these dwarf clubs from nowhere like Mjallby get to win a title before them.

it almost feels destined for these two to finally meet in Europe.

Well, Lech sure pushes Klaksvik in the 1st half, but only got two actual good scoring chances, denied by the GK.
Hammarby optically MUCH better than Raków in the first half, they seem better organized and in better shape. Yet still allowed two good opportunities. Hope that Raków makes use of the vulnerability.

Combine with Pana against CSKA X2 for a double was my thought
