Given American cultural dominance post-WW2, why didn't they succeed in exporting their sports culture as well?
>>
Getting people to enjoy some musics, junk food or movies aint 1/10 as hard as getting people to enjoy new sports
>>
What is American sports (or sporting) culture?
>>
we exported baseball all over the goddamn caribbean and its even gained a big following in Mexico. arguably It gained even more traction during the occupation of Japan and korea but who knows the truth

anyway Babe is forever the goat and Ohtani is a fraud
>>
>>157242227
We did, Baseball is popular in multiple countries around the world. The reason it isn’t more popular is because Pele made soccer a global phenomenon
>>
Footie is too powerful, but I don’t know why baseball couldn’t have been taken up by working class in UK - outside of Yorkshire it’s pretty middle/upper class and us plebs could do with a bat and ball game. We play Rounders in primary schools which is essentially baseball but with a smaller bat you hold with one hand
>>
>>157242570
probably get more invested in cricket since thats what the poshies play, or youre like us and drop the sport)for us its soccer) after elementary school
>>
>>157242579
I think there was an actual effort to import it and it gained some traction but it might have been hampered by the start of one of the world wars.
>>
>>157242258
Any sport you can sit down and eat while it's going on in the background.
>>
>>157242258
tailgating, getting into heated arguments over how a player stacks up against another, getting way too emotional or invested in your children's little league version of said sport, and uh....I dunno creating memes about an injury/player/incident on twitter?
>>
>>157242570
Football just requires some open area to practice. You can dribble in a few m2 at the park. Baseball needs a lot more space. You're hitting a small hard ball very hard and that sends it a good distance. Kid breaks window with a baseball is a class Boomer punchline in comics, animation and so on for a reason.
>>
>>157242579
cricket has nothing to do with baseball
>>
>>157242227
baseball is, as the name implies, based
no idea why burgers prefer american football and niggerhoop over it
>>
>>157243256
It would be baseb not based
>>
>>157242227
Everyone's sporting preferences were pretty well entrenched before the war, even the Japanese who some ignoramuses think only started taking up baseball because of occupation.
>>157243256
The dynamic up to about 1960 or so was that baseball was the working man's sport while those two were the college man's sport. Then college enrollment exploded to increase exposure and appetite for them.
>>
baseball is huge in latin america and baseball was americas pastime historically so they partialy did it.
>>
>>157242227
Have you watched American football? It has to be the goofiest sports on the planet.
>>
>>157242654
Baseball requires a lathe to make bats which is above the budget and expertise of most nations
>>
Baseball fandom is largely based on the autism and numbers side of things. Reading about records that have stood for 140 years and are considered impossible to break is a lot of fun, and you could get people into baseball with some more of that. But the sport itself is terrible and everyone knows this.

Basketball was invented too late to reasonably be exported into anywhere else’s national consciousness; nobody was looking for a new sport when basketball was invented. And NFL requires so much infrastructure that you can’t pick it up randomly. It wouldn’t even definitely pick up again in America if you destroyed all the stadiums and outfits and had to make them all again from scratch.
>>
>>157243678
College football was always popular among people who didn't go to college, especially in the huge swaths of the US that didn't have a baseball team nearby prior to the 60s and 70s
>>
>>157242227
baseball is HUGE in 2nd china
>>
>>157243248
They are both bat and ball games
>>
>>157242301
Yes but the exporting of baseball was almost all before WW2
>>
>>157243780
Basketball is by far our most popular export if you consider the Chinese love it
>>
Baseball is inherently a white man’s game which is why Japan is the most popular country for it after US
>>
>>157242227
we didn't want foreigners mucking in our sports
>>
>>157242301
>and its even gained a big following in Mexico
all sports refugees because they've been raped and gaped by brazil and argentina in soccer, the canonical hispanic sport

>>157242411
see above paco

>>157243690
see above

>>157244099
>senooor the sport with 30% hispanics is hecking white and aryan o algo
>>
>>157243780
this is outdated, modern baseball fans are either old boomers or rootless chicanos who got bullied out of soccer by sudacas and gave up on the NFL because their teams (cowboys, raiders) have been shit for decades
>>
>>157242227
people like sports where you run around a lot. Baseball has too much sitting and waiting.
>>
>>157243940
Cricket is a bowls game where you bowl at the wicket. The batsperson is incidental
>>
>>157246730
seething flyover
>>
>>157246774
The batter stops the ball from hitting the wicket post, you muppet
>>
>>157243965
By pure coincidence, I was in Kaunas, Lithuania, on the night that Kaunas Zalgiris won the European Basketball Championship, and people were going absolutely apeshit over it. I have never seen such passion.
>>
>>157246822
The batsperson exists purely to add to the challenge for the bowlsman. See it’s nothing like baseball and it’s not philosophically a game of bat and ball but rather bowls and wickets. You win cricket by taking wickets, not by batting
>>
>>157242227
Sports are games and games are for kids and kids like something that can be played right here right right now fast paced and you participate in it showing your skills. In every school in my time during break time we went and played football for that 30mins break. And then back to class. Simple as. All you need is a ball.

Amerisports, minus basketball, are the antithesis of immediacy, disponibility and fun. Who wants to be the kid in a baseball game that dresses up, needs a glove to play, and stands in one corner of the pitch waiting for the ball to ever, if ever, come near his place only to pick it up and pass it to some other guy? It's just maximum anti-fun.
>>
>>157243690
>Baseball is huge in Latin America
Not really. Only in some caribbean nations. 99% of people here don't even understand it. Basketball is the most popular American export sport in the world and Michael Jordan is probably the cause of it
>>
>>157242579
I also think these days sports are so "optimized" that everyone, especially the kinds of families that raise sports kids, know that a British kid playing baseball against other bad British players (or an American cricketer) with weak competition with zero infrastructure is never going to make it. Like not even close. So I don't see how it could evolve past a 30 year old reddit guy with a night shift job and an illegal streaming website learning that baseball is cool
>>
>>157249406
I don't know how it works really. Here if you want to play baseball that means probably spending a couple hundred usd. If you want to play football you don't even need a proper ball. Paper balls, plastic bottles, plastic bottle caps all worked wonders during recess, but Venezuelans for example that wouldn't drop a coin if you grabbed them by their feet and put them upside down like bullies in cartoons, all have their bat and glove. It's not just about immediacy and disponibility
