>SDSU, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and Utah State are each on the hook for just under $10 million in exit fees — less than half the estimated $20 million due under Mountain West bylaws for leaving with one year’s notice.

>Oregon State and Washington State will pay slightly more in poaching fees from a 2024 football scheduling agreement that, as it was written, started at $10 million for each Mountain West school that joined a reformed Pac-12 and increased from there. The cost for five schools was $55 million.

>In all, the total settlement for both exit and poaching fees is believed to be just north of $70 million, or less than 50 cents on the dollar. One source put it closer to 47.

I always see people mock Illinois football fans for rushing the field whenever they get a win over a Michigan or USC but a lot of B1G fans don’t realize the losing seasons Illinois football has delt with for decades.

For a lot of Michigan or Ohio State fans who don’t really get it, the frustration Illinois fans have isn’t about one game or one moment it’s something that’s built up over a long time in Big Ten history. Michigan has always been one of the conference’s biggest, most well known programs, while Illinois has often felt like it’s just kind of been pushed to the side or not talked about much.

From an Illini fan’s point of view, it can sometimes feel like Michigan comes in with this built in prestige national titles, huge resources, a massive fanbase and that can come off, fairly or not, like a sense of entitlement or like other programs don’t really matter as much. Over the years, that feeling has only grown with stretches where Michigan has dominated the matchup, recruiting battles where Illinois gets overlooked, and moments where Illini fans feel like their program isn’t taken seriously or gets talked down on.

So when Illinois finally does win, it’s not just another upset in the standings. It hits different. It feels personal in a way like a reminder that Illinois belongs, and that all those years of being underestimated weren’t the full story.

Under Bret Bielema, Illinois football has shed its reputation as a Big Ten doormat and has become a physical, disciplined, and confident program capable of competing with anyone in the conference. Bielema has changed the culture by building tough offensive and defensive lines, developing talent, and instilling the belief that Illinois belongs on the same field as the Big Ten’s traditional powers. That’s why Illini fans take such pride in this team. We’ve earned our respect, and we’re no longer content being treated as an afterthought.

What does that have to do with the undergraduate football players? As you mentioned, AAU is mainly about research concerns. Football players are mostly undergraduate students with a few grad students who can't make the NFL mixed in.
The reason why anyone brings up academics in football discussions is because schools with good academics traditionally had to limit their recruiting pool to student-athletes who could meet their higher academic standards. When Georgia Tech requires calculus for all students, including football players, while Mississippi State just requires being able to count to potato, it's easy to explain why State is going to have an easier time recruiting effective lineman than Tech will. Retards who don't understand this simple concept grasp onto unrelated shit like research cartels and think that means something, though they would struggle to explain why they think it's relevant. They suffer from cargo cult thinking and just know "academics" is something to throw around when their team sucks.
This is becoming increasingly moot as more schools give athletes special low effort classes and no longer care if their star player can't string together a coherent sentence. It's no longer embarrassing to Vanderbilt to have Pavia and his STD clinic mom representing the university.
>>
I think people who try to explain Indianas success by just saying “coaching” are absolutely retarded. As if cig is the first good football coach in history. Nobody has ever achieved so much with so little talent and it’s not even remotely close.

My theory is that they have some genius fags who implemented a legitimately good VR practice simulation thing. Where their players are getting legitimate “mental reps” on the couch and grinding that way. To where the team has effectively practiced 10 times as much as everyone else. And yeah mass adderall prescriptions possibly on top of that.

Because when they block shit it looks like an NFL team in a way I have never seen. Everyone perfect in their assignments every time. It’s not normal college football
>>
>>157264492
They were onviously very talented and very well coached. Yes you're right Cig is not the first amazing coach ever but he is and his staff are clearly the best coachs in football rn. They had a lot of guys drafted and the guys who weren't like Becker are filthy, those backshoulder catches in the natty were crazy.
>>
>>157264492
Alright asshole so take away the work coaching and use the work preparation. Feel smart now? It has been and always will be coaching or those faggots in Texas would’ve already won.
>>
>>157264797
It's also about getting guys who want to be coached, want to prove people who doubted them wrong. Those big programs full of 5 star prospects also have to deal with egos and them doing it 'their way' which can make even the best coaching less effective.

First and foremost I’d like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ for informing me the the spearchucker in LA is scheduled to be earholed this coming season
>>
>>157264797
preparation using cutting edge proprietary technology yes. Not just cigs IQ.

Having better coaching has NEVER meant you can win with a team full of 3 star players. This is the one and only time in the history of college football something like this has ever been done.
>>
>>157264928
Winning with a bunch of 3 stars just means those guys were overlooked in HS or ended up developing better over their college career. The difference between a 3 and 5 star is usually just a couple more inches here and there, 10 or 20 pounds, and one or two hundreth of a second faster 40 time. In other words, traits measured in a vacuum, not on the field.

It's a lot different on the field. Nacua went 5th round and had a 4.6s 40 but he's out there every sunday dusting CB's and secondaries. There are countless other examples of late round and undrafted draft picks in the NFL who go on to have all-pro careers, so highschool recruitment rating and predraft measurables don't really count for much in the end. What counts is guys taking pride in how they play and playing the right way, what goes on between the ears. Recognizing the play an opponent is run ing a half second late, not hitting your assignment on time, being tricked by the offensive playcall are how you lose games, and that half second kills your team and can't be made up by athleticism, and it will always be like that. That's football. Watching Indiana I saw an extremely disciplined football team who loved playing together and relished being the out-of-nowhere enemy of the sport.
>>
>>157265114
Recruiting rankings are remarkably accurate and are more accurate now than they have ever been. To the point where literally 50% of 5 stars actually turn into first round picks. That is tremendous accuracy. Pointing out some exceptions doesnt mean anything.

Again. You think he is the first guy to "talk about pride" fucking grow up or stop pretending you have the capacity to think.
>>
>>157265158
Source on 50% of 1st round picks being former 5 stars? And then, how many of them go on to be pro bowlers and all-pros? How many win Super bowls?
They aren't accurate measure of team play and unity. 5 star picks go onto very obscure careers. Malachi Nelson, the #1 overall player in his class, is on his 4th team in 4 years and has looked terrible. Jaden Rashada was another former 5 star that bounced around and seemed only in it for the money. I could site countless other examples of 5 stars.

You say I lack the ability to 'think' yet you clearly haven't stopped to think about this entire debate: you're citing individual player measurables in highschool and rankings vs team success in college. Yeah I wouldn't have trouble identifying a 6'5, 210 pound highschool linebacker with a frame that will gain 20 to 30 more pounds of muscle in a college weight training program as a likely 5 star prospect, but I'd have a lot of trouble coaching him to be part of a team and lead a defensive unit. It was obvious watching IU-Alabama and IU-Ohio St. And IU-Oregon that Alabama and Ohio St. and Oregon, teams full of 5 star players, had a bunch of 'me first' guys, however athletic and highly touted, compared to Indiana whose offense and defense looked like one unified whole. And as I've pointed out, those athletic differences once they get to college are razor thin. What matters is what's between the ears, how you process coverages and information, and the mentality you have about the sport and the team. Cigs just picks guys who fit his system perfectly: his greatest strength is probably not coacing neccesarily, although he is clearly a great coach, but IDing guys who perfectly fit his vision for the team.
>>
>>157265158
This mysterious thing you are failing to grasp is preparation is real, and is ignored by most of these ego heavy programs. Who prepares it? The coaches. Who consumes it? The players. What kind of players? Hungry, coachable players. What happened to Bama? Maybe Indiana cheated but obviously was clean enough for the world to accept it was a group effort
>>
>>157265233
just completely insufficient of an explanation. I think you are not comprehending how unlikely it is that IU could win. Its the single most unlikely thing we have ever seen in sports. It cannot be explained by something simple like "he is just good at picking the right dudes".

They have to be doing something radically different from everyone else. Its either drugs, the virtual reality shit, hacking other teams, bribing other players or something. It doesnt necessarily have to be cheating but its has to be something revolutionary.
>>
>>157265251
And even if they cheated, what would it be exactly? Guys are allowed to watch film whenever they want, so if it's VR simulation wouldn't that just be film study? They didn't look noticably bigger or stronger than other teams so I don't think it's roids or steroids, anymore than other teams give their players. You just have to give them props, they were an amazing team that played together.
>>
>>157264928
Nebraska
>>
>>157265269
Anon I have tiven extremely detailed explenations of my thought process. You are the one who has given insufficient explenations. Your entire argument is "I have no proof but I KNOW they cheated!"
What they are doing radically different than everyone else is what I have already explained to you. You just clearly haven't played or coached sports, you have no frame of reference.
>>
>>157265114
>>157265233
Look up what "per capita" means, then you'll understand how you are cherrypicking for every example. Any given 5 star is much more likely to become an All-American, get drafted in the 1st round and become a star in the NFL than any given 3 star. Nelson isn't every 5 star and it's not impossible to get 5 stars to buy in and play team football (see: every single champion before Indiana).
>>
Pooping rn. Bit stinky ngl

During the transfer era, with the weakest coaching we have ever seen. No it isn’t a mystery. What SEC team coached above B+ level? Picking the right guys for the culture is a thing and trying to build a core for 2-3 years can still be a thing in the NIL era with the right guys with a dog mentality. Overlocked guys, as mentioned who were too short, just a bit slow, not heavy enough. Mix that with the system, and coach guys where to be, with modern systems (cheating hey who knows) and you suddenly have an oiled pissed off machine. They got beat up by Notre Dame after shocking everyone but themselves that year. You are under estimating the team part of it, even if they cheated they cheated perfectly. Even if they juiced they juicier perfectly. Bama did the same thing so now we can see if Indiana can maintain this, and if they do you will be screeching lol

UNLV and Air Force are still due the full amount the Mountain West promised them if they'd stay in the conference. The conference had planned on using the income from the lawsuit against the PAC12 and its new teams to fund those bribes. The Mountain West will survive but they're going to hurt financially, especially now that Hawaii and Northern Illinois are members. Hawaii should hurt extra since as full members, all sports now travel to Hawaii and Hawaii is no longer required to subsidize those trips for the visiting teams.

Really wonder what the future holds for schools like UCLA in the new era of being able to pay players openly. They certainly have enough alumni wealth to build a good team and associated program if they want without needing to resort to bagmen. The real question is if their alumni and fans really care all that much.

What I find most amusing about pot smokers is they make all these assumptions and accusations, and then craft one excuse after another to justify their habit.
>I was never built to just be productive all day with no rest
I agree, I never said or implied otherwise. No one is built to only be productive all day. But you seem to think the only way to relax and to rest is to get high? To rely on something outside of yourself for the mentality shift toward relaxation or downtime is a negative thing. And all drug use has consequences later. Your tolerance goes up. From the aspect of biochemistry, pot distorts your perception of reality because it is disrupting normal, healthy brainwave communication. And that disruption has effects later when you are sober.
>Some of us are over stimulated and need the respite of getting a little retarded now and then instead of running our brains at 9000 RPM.
Another excuse. I also have a very energetic and analytical brain, and I have sympathy for anyone like me who can't always give that energy proper vent. But purposefully dumbing yourself is not the answer. And Musk smoking weed to justify the habit is just sad. Rich people also do cocaine, should you be doing that as well? You should not be idolizing rich people.

You absolutely are implying that. If you say its a waste of time that means the time was supposed to be spent doing something productive. When in reality we all have our time to unwind and it really makes no difference if you use weed in that time or you have some other vice like eating candy or whatever. I am not interested in living some perfectly optimized spartan life.

I think your whole perspective is just off base a little bit. You speak of "normal healthy brain wave communication" and have this appeal to nature as if we live in any kind of a natural life. Our brains are fucked by technology and over stimulated to hell and we live completely unnatural lives in an unnatural cage we call civilization. Throwing weed into the mix is not as significant as you think it is. We are all lab rats for the system to some degree.

The Protect the P2 Sports Act has been amended to give P4 teams a 180 day window after the act is passed to change conferences. After the 180 window, the five year as an independent clause goes into effect. The member of Congress who added that amendment is from Florida, so it's pretty obvious FSU and Miami think they have a P2 invites and they'll be able to get everything settled in a 180 day period.

>>
>>157277421
Well yeah we are at a point where none of the regular season games matter for anyone other than the SEC.

This is not like a conference fag statement. Genuinely everyone knows who is getting into the playoffs from the big 10. Everyone knows Notre dame is getting in. Only the SEC has any kind of question marks or drama ahead. And I think thats really fucking gay it should not be like this.
>>
>>157277602
I am not advocating a 'spartan life'. Again, you are jumping to conclusions. I think there are more edifying things you could be doing in your liesure time than getting stoned and watching YouTube videos, yeah. Weed also typically leads to more vices like masturbation, eating worse, being lazier, etc. To each their own, but I think you need a major mentality shift about a lot of things.

Your last paragraph is just conspiracy to justify your habit, and I'd say that is what's 'off base': "yeah man we're just rats in the system and like my brains already all fucked up anyway from the internet and shit so what's smoking weed gonna do?" The internet is a tool and the degree to which it can 'fuck your brain up' is all about how you use it and why you use it. The 'system', whatever that means, and your place in it, is whatever you decide to make it. Everything in life is a choice, and we have never lived in a more free society. Being a slave to voce and weed is not the answer. Again, maybe one day you'll understand.
>>
>>157277602
Civilization is not 'unnatural' either. It's absolutely neccesary to have laws and work with others so we each can meet our basic needs. You sound very immature and confused.
>>
>>157277696
>we have never lived in a more free society

What the fucking fuck are you talking about holy shit LMAO. What planet are you living on? What the FUCK can you even elaborate here?

My grandfather was drunk driving, slapping his wife, getting in fist fights, pretty much doing whatever he wanted. I am monitoried by the government 24/7 via flock cameras, my phone, ring doorbell cameras. I cant step a toe out of line without going directly to prison. We have never been LESS free in the history of this country. People get fired from their jobs for saying a naughty word in 2026 lmao

You sound like a retarded woman. Civilization is the literal textbook definition of not natural.

I'm going to disengage from talking with you now since you are clearly not at all interested in discussing this rationally, and may even be incapable of doing so. Hopefully anyone who comes across our interaction will at least see that no adult minded person would ever smoke pot.
>>157277758
Well, define natural? If natural is the native reason in man determining organizational structures then literally nothing on any concievable context or level is 'natural'. (As an aside, I find it ironic the guy advocating pot use is talking about what is and isn't natural, since getting high is taking your brain out of it's 'natural' state). On the most basic level man realized he cannot realiztically meet all his needs by himself and so he banded together with other humans which organized themselves into societies. That simple. But please, at any time, go out into the wilderness and begin living your 'natural' life. No one is stopping you.

He sounds paranoid. We are as free as we have ever been. You can still drive drunk, and there were DUI's back then as there are now. Just don't get caught, same as back then. You can still get into fist fights and they still happen at bars and pubs with some regularity. You can still slap your wife, you just have to hope she doesn't call the cops because then that's domestic violence, and domestic violence existed back then as it does now. And this is all ignoring the fact all of those 'freedoms' are degenerate, which is another topic all together.

The other stuff is conspiracy theory shit: flock cameras, that your phone is constantly recording you (put tape on your phone camera and turn off mic access). You can also not have a smart phone. Neighbors having ring cameras doesnt matter. And lets say he and all of us are being video recorded everywhere we go from all angles (which isn't even close to being the reality of the situation), so? Who cares about that information? And really, 'toeing out of line', whatever that even means, will send you to prison? And yeah, most employers don't want you saying racial slurs at work, and your employment with them is at their discretion, just like it's at yours as well. This has always been the case. This is also ignoring the fact he ignored every other point I made and me highlighting his hypocrisy. His depiction of the situation isn't accurate: he comes off as a paranoid schizo.

Anon DUI's have existed since 1910, and you'd pay a $1,000 fine (a ton of money back then) and spend a year in jail for it. It's true there was a period in the 60's where it wasn't often enforced if you were pulled over, but since the 70's it has been strictly enforced everywhere.

The "180 day" amendment made it into the bill. The nineteen member cap is still in place. Unless the B1G actually has no interest in ND, the amendment really is about ACC schools moving to the SEC. Word is that FSU is willing to pay whatever it takes to get out of the ACC and is willing to make a deal with private equity to make it happen. I have doubts about if Clemson and Miami would actually put up the required amount of money but I also don't see the SEC going to seventeen members. Even without divisions, even numbers are easier to schedule.

Given the nature of Congress, you're probably correct but it's still a sign of what various conferences and programs are willing to do. DUI's are a big deal everywhere. In most states a first offense DUI is a 180 day license revocation, a $1,000 fine, up to 6 months in jail (eapecially if it caused an accident) and 50 hours of community service. It's been like this since the 70's unless, again, a cop just lets you off or you're in a small town where everyone knows eachother and doesn't care. But cops basically never let DUI's off anymore: id they let you go for drunk driving when they could have and should have arrested you, and you go on to cause a major accident, they are at fault and can be sued, lose their job, and even get arrested themselves. You're just lying to lie, for some reason, not sure why you'd plant your flag in the ground on such a stupid take, as if this thread isn't full of adults who know how stupid the claim 'DUIs aren't a big deal' is. It's a hige deal, they kill more drivers/pedestrians every year than every other type of vehicle accident combined.
>>
All the dialogue around the Protect College Sports Act has turned me in to a misanthrope. People blame Congress for being inept, but the way Congress operates is just a reflection of the average American being stupid as shit and unable to understand the concept of compromise. There is no such thing as a perfect solution. It’s ironic that the person who created this bill (Cody Campbell) is the only one that truly seems to understand how broken the current system is and tried to craft a solution to fix it, while also being the patron of a school that thrives in a world where college football continues to have no guardrails.

Social media has just brainwashed everyone beyond the point of return. There's so much false information at the average persons fingertips that you could craft the most convincing argument imaginable, in the style of a Demosthenes or Seneca, present it before congress or an assembly, and it wouldn't matter, since the average citizen would just plug their ears, say 'lalalalalala' and run back to their corner of the internet, and assemble mobs to drown out what you say. "How can they hear the truth above the roar?"

I think the reason those older orators were so succesful in convincing the public is that war or invasion was at their doorstep almost constantly. A lack of real threat to America is what has allowed us to live in this fantastical state of delusion for so long. I often say I wish we would get invaded any day, since the actual threat of war forces the average person to face reality for a change. You can't hide from it any more when an invading force is 30 miles away from your town or city, and could swoop in overnight and murder your children, rape your wife, sieze your property and posessions, and make your their slave.

>throwing out buzzwords
Yeah we know you don't have an argument
>>
>>157292696
Firstly im not interested in debating you. I don’t care about anonymously winning a debate. My “argument” is about public perception. Public perception of drunk driving was that it’s not a big deal at all. It’s something pretty much everyone including you has done. Only in the last 10 years has there been a moral judgment from most people regarding a DUI. For example George W Bush had a DUI and became president and soccer moms all voted for him in the 2000s. Only nowadays would the public view it as some serious criminal charge.

I was not claiming that it wasn’t illegal or that the punishment was tiny. (though the punishment has steadily become much more harsh over time too.)
>>
>>157292783
You're pretty clearly interested in this debate because we're going on nearly 3 days debating it. If you weren't youcd have just moved on. You also never answered my questions, but you've ignored 90% of what I've said so you can feel like tou're right. My point still stands: unless you knew the cop who pulled you over personally, were in a small podunk town of 800 people, or bribed the cop, DUI's have been a serious traffic offense going on 60 years.

The fact that they have the second most #1 votes yet are 6th overall despite that tells us a lot of coaches have Indiana 6th or lower. They are behind teams that have 2, 5, 6 and 7 #1 votes. It's probably something really weird like a big cluster of #1 and #2 votes then a big cluster of #9 and #10 votes without many votes in between that ended up with 6th overall.

The people who cover my team. Talking about how they even put up QR codes on the score board to donate to players NIL and shit like this.

By contrast we will probably be the last team to ever have a jersey add because they can always just ask a billionare for more money. And we dont do any crowd funding shit because the administration is fucking lazy.

Alabama isn't a wealthy state. There are wealthy people who are supporters of the program, but for the most part, the base from which the Tide has to fund raise doesn't have the same financial depth of many of its football peers. Picking Alabama over Miami because Alabama is the better path to the NFL works when the paycheck difference is small. Once wealthier programs are constantly able to pay a good deal more, recruiting becomes far more difficult. After a couple of meh seasons and a decade without sniffing a natty, the program is back to the "Three Mikes" level and can't use NFL access as a tool. Alabama's administration understands this and is going to try to find money wherever they can to stave off the inevitable for as long as possible. Some of it might end up being tacky shit but nothing that's more embarrassing than losing more games.
>>
>>157307873

>>

The majority of Alabama fans are not alumni of the school. This is an issue at a few programs (Notre Dame is patient zero, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Miami are big ones, etc) and you have seen dropoff at these schools for a variety of reasons because “fan count” isn’t really a determining factor anymore. I’m not saying that’s the number one reason, but it is a variable that has less significance than it used to have.

They did have the best receivers in the nation last year. They just had a >black qb who made them look merely decent instead of godlike.
>>
>>157311125
You have to admit they played a lot of suspect defenses and they lost conception who was for sure the most explosive guy.

>>
>>157310369
Not sure what trend you mean but Tech almost made the Division II playoffs last year, and just might do it this year. It wouldn't shock me if Western wins the MAC again, and of course, Ferris will probably win another Division II national title.
And if Whittingham can fix what Sherrone broke with Underwood, don't be shocked if U-M makes the CFP.
>>
>>157311137
They made ND's secondary look like chumps all game, but a negro QB doesn't have the region of the brain responsible for throwing an oblong ball to a wide open receiver screaming bloody murder at him. Regardless, they were still the best unit in the nation when it comes to receivers and there's people to replace the annual sacrifice to the Browns. If there's a top 3, A&M is in there somewhere based on past results.

So some judge ruled a bunch of fags get a fifth year. Who is benefitting the most from this who is also a contender? I believe Indiana gets one of their key defensive linemen back or something. Texas is getting one of their shitty offensive linemen back. Does anyone have a pulse on this and how it changes things?
>>
>>157314375
The NCAA isn't a government agency. It was an attempt by the schools to self-regulate. It failed.
The vast majority of FBS schools are public universities engaged in interstate commerce. It's clearly a responsibility the Constitution gave to Congress to regulate. The framers simply didn't envision that Congress would become so dysfunctional that it couldn't even effectively fulfill the most basic tasks given to it.
Did Jefferson envision this?

KK Mega SuperBet is an elite team! Elite, I tell ya!
Really, there are several things that happened. Very few of the starters played, and several of the players who were in were injured. But mostly basketball is entering a dark period. Bruce Pearl fucked over the university by timing his resignation to where they couldn't do a full coaching search, which setup his son as the only reasonable choice as his replacement at that time. The question is how long will the school put up with the failing nepobaby fucking things up. My guess is that it depends on how the football program does. If the new guy gets football back on track, few are going to care about the "we're a basketball school now" cope.
>>
>>157314498
Its not illegal to fuck women despite their inability to understand consent, responsibility and agency
>>
>>157314498
No woman can consent because no woman has the intellectual ability to comprehend such a thing.
>>
>>157314520
Even that cope doesn’t really work unless championships, plural, are produced relatively quickly. This never happens due to the nature of collegiate basketball, though.
>>
>>157314920
