saddest game of the tourney imo, there was a bigger blowout, but the only other shutout of the game was 1-0, not 10-0
that said, i hope this experience just makes their region hungrier

Ciben Wakayama (智弁和歌山) is a private school from Wakayama Prefecture. Chiben is a Koshien juggernaut, with them making the tournament almost every single year. They have qualified 45 times and won 4 times, most recently in summer 2021 where they famously beat their sister school Chiben Gakuen in the final.
Media ranking: A

Yashiro (社) is a public school from Hyogo Prefecture. Yashiro have had qualified for Koshien 5 times, most recently in summer 2023 where they lost in the first round. Still impressive for a public school to come out of a highly competitive prefecture like Hyogo.

Riseisha (履正社) is a private school from Osaka Prefecture. The school has made it to Koshien 16 times, and have won once in summer 2019. Riseisha have always been Osaka Toin's younger brother, only qualifying if Toin gets knocked out like they did this year.
Media ranking: B

Kyoei (享栄) is a private school from Aichi Prefecture. This will be Kyoei's 20th Koshien appearance but first since the year 2000. Considering the fact that Aichi has the largest number of schools in their qualifiers, (174) any school coming out of here is a real competitor.

Been having way more fun watching Koushien than NPB. Deadball era is just too much. Was watching the Fighters vs. Lions between games and it was 0-0 with 1 hit for the longest time. If the lockout happens and NPB still has a product like that (the only other competitive game today was Dragons vs BayStars, the rest were blowouts), it'll be a massive もったいない. The pace of play in this tournament has been perfect even without a pitch clock, 2 disengagement limit and no 3 batter rule. The quality of play from the good teams is also high enough. Will be interested in how DH changes things long-term and how soon they adopt ABS after the Tigers get it installed.
>>
>>157318100
Where do you watch npb? Also the bad teams are part of what makes koshien fun for me. Reminds you this is an amateur youth tournament, which gives it charm. It's part of the reason i like the little league world series.
>>
>>157318100
I love the pace of play in koshien, genuinely it makes the sport so much more watchable.
>>
>>157318100
I don't feel clock is needed on NPB ethirr beacuse this pace of play tends to go into NPB

In MLB it was needed beacuse pitchers tried to delay the game too much for their benefit to the point it became extremely annoying, but NPB does not have it

Some Japanese fans are assuming that the pitch clock is being implemented as some type of "excuse" for losing the WBC

As for the ball I have the theory thst the ball is needed by design to make sure 3 outcomes culture takes over japanese baseball as ground play is always more preferred due more in-field action

>>
Kyoei got a lil rally brewing, tying run is up.
>>
>>157318217
I feel the OP team is Yokohama and Riseisha

Usually when Toin doesn't win then is Riseisha that takes the Osaka spot, and riseisha tends to go deep into finals too
>>
damn that turned him around
>>
>>157318229
How many mercenary teams are at koshien both in genral and this year? For me that takes away from huge part of the appeal. I know these aren't just local high schools but they should atleast be from the prefecture. Maybe a few exceptions.

>>157318206
Eh. Shenmue bro
>>
>>157318268
i can't say how many sorry. in general, large private high schools tend to be able to recruit players from outside their respective prefectures. public schools can't really do this (all the more reason to support them)

Matsusho Gakuen (松商学園) is a private school from Nagano Prefecture. The most successful school in Nagano, this will be their 55th Koshien appearance, the most of any school at this year's tournament. They have won Koshien once, all the way back in summer 1928.
Media ranking: C

Mie (三重) is a private school from Mie Prefecture. The school that shares its name with the prefecture is also its most successful. Mie has been to Koshien 29 times and is one of only two schools from Mie Prefecture to have ever won the tournament, doing so all the way back in spring 1969.

Media ranking: B

Saga Shogyo (佐賀商) is a public school from Saga Prefecture. Despite being a public school, Shogyo has actually won Koshien before, doing so in summer 1994. This will be the school's 23rd appearance at the tournament. They'll be looking to snap a nasty five-game Koshien losing streak, having lost in the first round in each of their last five appearances. They actually haven't won a game at Koshien since spring 2000.

The introduction of ABS only helps TTO players draw more walks, so my prediction is NPB will need to give the balls more juice to motivate swinging instead of just fouling everything off.
As a viewing product, you need the games to have more tension between fielding/running and pitching/slugging instead of everything being one or the other.

Hanasaki Tokuharu (花咲徳栄) is a private school from Saitama Prefecture. This is Hanasaki Tokuharu’s 15th appearance at Koshien. The school won Koshien once, in Summer 2017, but hasn't been able to replicate that success since then. Hanasaki Tokuharu has served as the inspiration for the baseball manga, 'Draft King' which feature fictional versions of the school.
Media ranking: B

Sendai Ikuei (仙台育英) is a private school from Miyagi Prefecture. Sendai Ikuei is the premier school from Miyagi, and one of the best in Japan. Ikuei have made 47 Koshien appearances easily the most in Miyagi Prefecture and one of the most out of any schools ever. I can't recall how the first game went, but this game had double digit hits though, can't say it lacked tension. Also this game had 2x as many spectators (32,000) than the first one.

All teams have now played their first game, so I'll repost the summaries I previously wrote for each

Kamimura Gakuen (神村学園) is a private school from Kagoshima Prefecture. They have been the dominant high school in Kagoshima since the mid-2000s. Although the school has never won Koshien, they have reached the semifinals and finals multiple times. Half of the schools Wikipedia page is dedicated to various scandals and controversies.
Media ranking: A

Sano Nichidai (佐野日大) is a private school from Tochigi Prefecture. This will be the school's 12th Koshien appearance. The school has one MLB alumni, Hirokazu Sawamura, who briefly played for the Red Sox in 2021-22. Fun fact, the voice actress of Naruto, Junko Takeuchi, went to this school.

i've had the games sitting in my steam library for years without ever playing them. should I give them a try someday? I like ryu ga gotoku.

Once again, let's go naruto team
>>
>>157327296
you're already ace for these but, if you're willing in the future, can you add who they beat and what the score was from the prior rounds?
don't feel like you have to though, just the historical context is cool enough and gives the matches more weight
>>
>>157327308
I've only played the first one and it's super comfy. I enjoy it a lot. The english dub is cringekino, but I love it cause the voice acting is hilariously bad, like all games of that era.
>>
>>157327318
i can add that for the future
>>157327323
i'll give it a go one day then
>>
>>157327335
It's kind of a slow game, you're mostly walking around town talking to people trying to solve a mystery, but it's really a memorable experience.

but what the FUCK was that 3-1 bunt with 2 outs bases loaded
christ i would've just told the kid to look at any ball that goes by in that situation, that's less of a waste of a pitch.
>>
>>157327436
i had them backwards too... i thought kamimura got out of that jam but it was nichidai

Some spaghetti from both sides already, I guess this game is about who will remain more composed.

It's a shame brass band quality isn't tightly correlated to baseball club ability, think of all the good musicianship and piece selection we're missing.

what was the philosophy not swinging and going for a sac bunt? not grounding out? also do they play the school anthem after they win?
>>
>>157327746
first and second with no outs. you trade the batter out to get the other two runners in scoring position. at that point, down 2, a single could tie the game.

do these guys do every game?

first game

Tokai Daikofu (東海大甲府) is a private school from Yamanashi Prefecture. This is the school's 21st Koshien appearance. Although they have never won the tournament, they have reached the semifinals five times throughout their history. They also snapped a nasty streak of losing their first game at Koshien, having lost in the first round in each of their previous two appearances.
Media ranking: C
First round: 5-2 victory over Tsuruoka Higashi (Media ranking: C)

Kendai Takasaki (健大高崎) is a private school from Gunma Prefecture. Kendai has been without a doubt the strongest team in Gunma since the early 2010s. They have made 14 appearances at Koshien, all since 2011. They won the 2024 Spring Koshien, but unexpectedly lost in the first round of last year's Summer Koshien.
Media ranking: B
First round: 7-1 victory over Hachiman Shogyo (media ranking: C)
