game 2 Ciben Wakayama (智弁和歌山) is a private school from Wakayama Prefecture. Chiben is a Koshien juggernaut, with them making the tournament almost every single year. They have qualified 45 times and won 4 times, most recently in summer 2021 where they famously beat their sister school Chiben Gakuen in the final.Media ranking: AYashiro (社) is a public school from Hyogo Prefecture. Yashiro have had qualified for Koshien 5 times, most recently in summer 2023 where they lost in the first round. Still impressive for a public school to come out of a highly competitive prefecture like Hyogo.Media ranking: C

game 3Riseisha (履正社) is a private school from Osaka Prefecture. The school has made it to Koshien 16 times, and have won once in summer 2019. Riseisha have always been Osaka Toin's younger brother, only qualifying if Toin gets knocked out like they did this year. Media ranking: BKyoei (享栄) is a private school from Aichi Prefecture. This will be Kyoei's 20th Koshien appearance but first since the year 2000. Considering the fact that Aichi has the largest number of schools in their qualifiers, (174) any school coming out of here is a real competitor. Media ranking: B

>>157318064Of course, it is overwhelming
>>157318064Yes it the more prestigious of the two
Been having way more fun watching Koushien than NPB. Deadball era is just too much. Was watching the Fighters vs. Lions between games and it was 0-0 with 1 hit for the longest time. If the lockout happens and NPB still has a product like that (the only other competitive game today was Dragons vs BayStars, the rest were blowouts), it'll be a massive もったいない. The pace of play in this tournament has been perfect even without a pitch clock, 2 disengagement limit and no 3 batter rule. The quality of play from the good teams is also high enough. Will be interested in how DH changes things long-term and how soon they adopt ABS after the Tigers get it installed.
>>157318100Where do you watch npb? Also the bad teams are part of what makes koshien fun for me. Reminds you this is an amateur youth tournament, which gives it charm. It's part of the reason i like the little league world series.
>>157318100I love the pace of play in koshien, genuinely it makes the sport so much more watchable.
>>157318100I don't feel clock is needed on NPB ethirr beacuse this pace of play tends to go into NPBIn MLB it was needed beacuse pitchers tried to delay the game too much for their benefit to the point it became extremely annoying, but NPB does not have itSome Japanese fans are assuming that the pitch clock is being implemented as some type of "excuse" for losing the WBCAs for the ball I have the theory thst the ball is needed by design to make sure 3 outcomes culture takes over japanese baseball as ground play is always more preferred due more in-field action

>>157318217I feel the OP team is Yokohama and RiseishaUsually when Toin doesn't win then is Riseisha that takes the Osaka spot, and riseisha tends to go deep into finals too
damn that turned him around
>>157318229How many mercenary teams are at koshien both in genral and this year? For me that takes away from huge part of the appeal. I know these aren't just local high schools but they should atleast be from the prefecture. Maybe a few exceptions.>>157318206Eh. Shenmue bro
>>157318268i can't say how many sorry. in general, large private high schools tend to be able to recruit players from outside their respective prefectures. public schools can't really do this (all the more reason to support them)
It's always funny people assume Osaka is washed just beacuse Toin lost, then Riseisha comes in and dominate it anyways
>>157318313after a bit of searching i found a website that breaks down the % of local players by team and public/private. it stops at spring 2026 but you can see the downward trend in local kids.
and heres the last game of the day for those awakeMatsusho Gakuen (松商学園) is a private school from Nagano Prefecture. game 2Hanasaki Tokuharu (花咲徳栄) is a private school from Saitama Prefecture. This is Hanasaki Tokuharu’s 15th appearance at Koshien. Not getting a run there is bad juju for Ikuei. At least they're working the count.
One thing I'm very impressed with is that I haven't seen a bat flying out of a player's hands. Impeccable discipline they're instilling into these kids. Though they don't seem eager to pull kids that are throwing lots of dead balls, I have to imagine they're quick to eject dangerous batters?

>>157331974first gameTokai Daikofu (東海大甲府) is a private school from Yamanashi Prefecture. This is the school's 21st Koshien appearance. Although they have never won the tournament, they have reached the semifinals five times throughout their history. They also snapped a nasty streak of losing their first game at Koshien, having lost in the first round in each of their previous two appearances.Media ranking: CFirst round: 5-2 victory over Tsuruoka Higashi (Media ranking: C)Kendai Takasaki (健大高崎) is a private school from Gunma Prefecture. Kendai has been without a doubt the strongest team in Gunma since the early 2010s. They have made 14 appearances at Koshien, all since 2011. They won the 2024 Spring Koshien, but unexpectedly lost in the first round of last year's Summer Koshien.Media ranking: BFirst round: 7-1 victory over Hachiman Shogyo (media ranking: C)
>>157334719Kendai sounds strong. My money is on them
>>157334737i would lean towards them being the favorites
For me, it's Yamanashi
the camera made it look like a home run
efficient inningsbarely any hitsmight be a 1 run game

I am sick and tired of this watanabe paipu ad on the yahoo stream. Is it on sportsbull too?
>>157335378use an adblock?
I've personally never gotten an ad from Sportsbull. FF/uBlock+DNS listsAlso it makes me smile anytime a band plays Yankee Doodle
>>157335395No no it's part of the stream, like the tama home commercials. I should have made that clear.
>>157335438i don't get any ads on sportsbull, even the 'built in' ones. i just use ublockorigin
>>157335438I don't get any ads watching the raw Sportsbull stream through mpv
>>157335448I am using ublockorigin. I guess I just have to put up with them.
Feels like the momentum is starting to turn against Yamanashi
Oh someone finally scored
>>157335557they were able to get out of the inning somehow
damn kendai must have great depth to throw shutout innings with 2 pitchers to save their ace as a closerthen he walks the first guy
tokai boys there's hope
maybe don't wait until the 9th to have your rally.
ooops
lmao just as I was gonna send a comment that he needs to cosplay Game 7 Yamamoto and induce a DP he does just thatcalled it earlier >>157335079
>>157335728too many one run games for my liking. i'd like to see teams generate some offence.last 4 games were:1-01-03-11-0
I like the school song, doesn't sound like the others you usually hear
Kendai is going to play Round 3 against Sano Nichidai from Tochigi. Hard for me to say who's favored. I think that game will have more runs than this though. >>157335744
>>157335749it has english lyrics lol BE TOGETHER
game 2Ariake (有明) is a private school from Kumamoto Prefecture. This is Ariake's first ever Koshien appearance. Kumamoto Prefecture was hit by a magnitude 7.1 earthquake a few weeks before Koshien, all students at the school were safe.Media ranking: CFirst round: 6-3 victory over Ritsumeikan Uji (Media rank: B)Nagasaki Nichidai (長崎日大) is a private school from Nagasaki Prefecture. This is the school's 15th appearance at Koshien and first summer appearance since 2010. Nichidai had lost the last 3 Koshien appearances in the first round before they finally won this year.Media ranking: BFirst round: 15-1 victory over Risshodai Shonan (Media ranking: C)
>>157335245ump my dude that is a foot outside
>>157335799Let's go Ariake! That might still be my favorite game of the tournament so far, but others have come close. Nagasaki looks like they know how to hit, won't be easy!
>>157335815local pride on the line too, battle for kyushu
>>157335799Going Sneedsaki because all that radiation probably made them super human mutants
>>157335801nah looks like it goes over the plate if you go frame by framei think it can be very deceiving when the catchers go so wide. definitely not used to seeing that.when they've been showing the pitchcast a throw like that is about the size of the ball inside.
>>157335842the radiation didn't help the hiroshima school advance
>>157335884Hiroshima just seems like a weak baseball region, their team is Crap after all. Though I'm told they ironically have the nicest park. I guess it has to be for people to buy tickets.
>>157335875you're nuts and don't understand physics or camera angles or something if you think that's anywhere close to the plate. I get the zone being wider for high school kids though, but even so this seems like a stretch to call a strikeAnd the zone diagrams in japan are never accurate, I don't really know why, but even in NPB if a pitch is a foot outside in the little zone diagram in the corner they will put it just an inch or two outside. Not sure why they do this
Thank god for this koshien thread. And thank you ABG and Canadabro.
>>157335907It looks within tolerable range. I probably am sensitized to their zone by now, following their diagram, but I've also been advocating for ABS in these threads after NPB gets it next year.
>>157335903NPB has a lot of ugly stadiums imo but hiroshima does seem niceas for koshien though... hiroshima are quite strong (when their representative school doesn't get into a major scandal and has to pull out *cough* koryo)>>157335920no problem bro
>>157335930It's hard to believe that you're being serious, but I think you are.The pitcher is right handed, the ball is released from outside the plate, and the catcher catches it about a foot off the outside corner, therefore that pitch cannot possibly have ever been within the width of the plate or even close to it, even if it's a pitch that tails arm side like a 2 seamer (sinker). I think it's a 4 seamer anyway. And the catcher is only like 3 or 4 feet behind the plate, that is extremely little time for a baseball to have any lateral break, this pitch is caught so far outside I don't think even Chris Sale's slider would be a strike if that's where it ends up. (sidearm lefty with one of the nastiest side breaking pitches in the world, so the best possible angle and break)
>>157335799Damn I'm late.I've decided that Ariake is the team I want to win the whole thing. Not only is it their first appearance. Their comeback against Ritsumeikan was LEGENDARY.LET'S GO ARIAKE!!!
Nagasaki making a lot of outs on the bases
i swear if ariake cant capitalize on this
