It's a bit weird, over a large sample size USA is probably better than a "rest of world" team, but in just one game with only their best pitchers Japan, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela are like 90% as good as USA and it's a pretty luck based sport in small samples so any game between any of them is basically a coin flip.
some will say USA doesn't take the tournament seriously also, that's mostly just cope though, on paper we always have the best roster. 2026 was nearly the best possible, though the pitchers in the final were a bit mediocre, not that pitching was the issue, the whole tournament USA with "the best lineup ever assembled" was anemic at the plate, pitching carried them to even make it to the final.

I don’t know about basketball but in the case of ice hockey the recent Olympics was the first time all the NHL players had been available to play in a proper international tournament since 2010 iirc, nonetheless albeit without Russia

cycling? not really a team sport, it kind of is I guess, especially for longer tours, but those aren't national teams. And there's no world cup style competition that pits countries against each other, countries can act as teams in the world championships or olympics road race but the winner is still just one guy, not the country.
Also tennis is more popular, and it has a team world cup, no one actually cares about the Davis Cup though. But Italy has won the last three.
