Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang - North Korea. (2nd*) largest stadium in the worldbuilt in 1986 and only surpassed in 2020 by an indian one
>>157354841now the title belongs to this one, Narendra Modi Stadium.132,000 capacity (the korean one has 113,281 seats) It has never reached its full capacity.

Stadium 974a "temporary" venue for the Qatar World Cup. Built with repurposed shipping containers and recycled steel, named after the amount of containers used and the Qatari international dialing code (+974)To avoid building a white elephant in such a small country, It was planned to be dismantled and reassembled in a future World Cup host country, at first to be sent to Maldonado - Uruguay for the 2030 World Cup, However the Uruguay–Argentina–Chile–Paraguay bid did not succeed.Later is was planned to be transported to an African nation. 5 years later, it still stands in its original site.
>>157354910That's what I thought as well at first, but it didn't look like it at second glance. It seems too narrow elsewhere, why only have that curve on one side? It's a bit weird, but maybe you are right>>157354907Thoughts on this? It's supposed to fit into Washington DC's common neoclassic aesthetic, and its location is aligned with the National Gallery
>>157353895Bump, I love architecture threads.
>>157354989>picI don't hate it, but it's too bad it bends downwards in the middle. If it had stayed perfectly circular then it would have been pure brutalist kino

Watching Kiel vs. St Pauli today, I saw one of the stands of the Kiel stadium demolished. They are rebuilding their stadium, it's going to be expanded from 15,000 to 25,000This is the supposed final look

>>157355029Looks great, preferable to the generic new oneWembley is similar. Couldn't they have spiced these iconic old designs up, modernize a bit? And not just build generic new shit riding on the old legacy's coattail?

Always liked how the Genoa CFC stadium looked like
>>157355076I'd also prefer different corners, but the "open glass optic" itself seems cool to me. I just think it would be cooler to have the stands somewhat connected at least, I also think that's better for acoustics. They could still have some glass

This is a college football stadium in the US
A bit to lament. This is Alemannia Aachen's old stadium, the "Tivoli". It was one of the most iconic sites in the country, a temple of football romanticism. 120 years old, a total shitbox, but soulful. Somehow, it also had tremendous acoustics. It was especially famous for being ridiculously narrow in all aspects, very uncomfortable. It had a capacity of 21,300
>>157355125You couldn't pay me to watch your professional leagues, but your college scene is amazing and I envy the college sport programs you guys have. Wish we had something like that here instead of separate academies
>>157355135In 2012, it got torn down and replaced with this stadium. A more modern one, more profitable. Designed for 38,000. By all means a fine stadium, also intended to be as narrow and loud as possible under modern regulations ... but it's still generic in comparisonIt also bankrupted the club and played a significant role in plunging Aachen from the Bundesliga to the 4th tier (they're currently playing their 3rd consecutive season in the 3rd tier again, after 11 years in the 4th). So the stadium was mostly empty for most of its history
>>157355161that's so sad
>>157355161Next to it, there's this stadium here, the Hauptstadion. With 40,000 seats, it's the biggest (non-racing) equestrian stadium in the world, I believe, and the site of the Aachen CHIO, called "world festival of equestrian sports". Right now, the world championships are also held there
>>157355102almost as kino as Chelsea's battersea stadium plan
>>157355179It is a big loss. But the fans have warmed up to the new one in recent years, I believe. It's also filled quite well in the 3rd tier, but it was a total waste in the 4th since that's divided into five regional leagues, so many of the opponents are really unattractive (especially if you believe your club should be at least two tiers higher)
>>157355152If this were even 10 years ago I'd agree that they're kino, but the people running the sport are doing everything they can to kill the best parts of it. Shame.
>Dumps a giant bowl in you're stadium that was originally designed to mimic roman architectureWhat now huh.
>>157355228So what are they doing? It at least seems like college stadiums are filled with actual fans instead of customers
i miss college
>>157355229quintessentially jewish
This is >our stadium, the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. 57,000 capacity, currently being expanded to 60,500 in a few simple steps. Had a 100% attendance rate for quite a while nowIn its current shape, it is ~30 years old now. Unfortunately, it has some structural weaknesses since it was built on the foundations of the 1950 original. Also, it seems like basically anything built in the 90s wasn't really built to last
>>157355236In search of more money they are gutting traditional rivalries(Border War, Backyard Brawl, Bedlam, Notre Dame vs USC) and doing everything they can, in football at least, to make the regular season pointless. There's 138 football teams and the sport has always been top heavy, but now the top teams are avoiding each other as much as possible every year for the playoffs. Imagine if Borussia Dortmund said "No, we don't want to play Bayer Leverkusen anymore, our games against Bayern and Leipzig are already hard enough, we'll take out Leverkusen and Hoffenheim to play Osnabruck and Dynamo Dresden" and they get fucking rewarded for it.
damn yuro stadiums are sad and pathetic lol
>>157355303So the club plans for a new stadium in 15 to 20 years. They want to avoid having an increasingly costly old stadium, especially as they could have a significantly larger stadium that might also throw off a lot more profit. I think the club would aim for a 75,000 to 80,000 capacity stadium if they could, but they know such a stadium costs like 1.5 billion nowadays. No way they can do that, but even a stadium of the same size as the old one might be unfeasible - despite the club being financially healthy and having many fans
>>157354989>>157355005i really do like how they are developing the area around the stadium to be a more natural park. Apparently there should be some good walking trails/views around the anacosita river.
>>157355054Kino. Here's my small hometowns football "stadium" (can't find a good pic without the stupid header)
>>157355236The dam keeping players from getting paid for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) was finally destroyed by a Supreme Court decision. Now players are jumping from college to college like it's musical chairs in constant search of whoever can secure them the most lucrative NIL deal. This in turn has pushed colleges to chase revenue even more now that they effectively need to pay players out in the open when it used to be a series of under-the-table perks. This is mainly being done by scraping beloved rivalries in favor of realigning conferences for better TV deals. The more and more money they need to send towards football, the more that the minor, low-revenue generating sports get left by the wayside. In other words, the backbone of our competitiveness in the Olympics. The only positive out of all of this is that it seemed to pull the rug from underneath the hated Southeastern Conference (buncha tryhard schools in the Deep South), they seem to have a hard time adjusting to the new normal since they were always the most brazen when it came to the old under-the-table perks system.
>>157355377So it's a high school stadium?
>>157354794but there weren't enough luxury boxes for all the celebrities! ;(
>>157355236its slow corporatization of the "major" leagues of all sports around the world. these next generation of arenas, and even renovations, will quickly accelerate the shift from a sport for the average person to corporatized event when the stadium is basically a library because its filled with white collar suits. they dont build 100k+ seat stadiums anymore because they need 3+ decks of luxury boxes. the average fan is getting systematically squeezed out.
>>157355387It's crazy nowadaysModern yurofootball stadiums of sizeable clubs all aim for 12-15% hospitality share. The way your big franchises chase big money, I imagine it might be even more in the NFL?
>>157355152The one thing Europeans didn't pick up on that I don't understand are bands. You've already got your chants, why not add more power?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpYJukt7ohoEven the Japanese figured this out, and this is an away crowdhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWyo8rRGgpI>>157355325It's the roofs. Their stadiums would look bursting with sovl if they just took out the damn ridiculous roofs, especially the ones that need pylons.
This is the Cleveland Indians stadium, Cleveland Ohios MLB team. They sold the stadium out for 455 consecutive regular season games from June 1995 to April 2001. Drawing over 19 MILLION fans in the timeframe
>>157355385Highschool stadium in a town of just over 5000 people. Always enjoyed the view of the surrounding town
I'll miss football-sized capacity crowds for baseball games
>>157355426What's your issue with roofs? I don't know about Spain or Italy, but here, it rains all the time. Putting roofs over stadiums was reasonable. They don't obstruct the view either
>>157355426>no bandsI guess because people just don't have the time for this sort of thing.I watched a NASCAR event and there was a priest praying, planes flying, the national anthem being sung, bands, all sorts of stuff. That's the kind of thing the average italian skips. The game is all we care about.Funny story: I used to work as a hotel receptionist, and one evening we had like 20 police officers as guests, and they were all wearing armor and rifles strapped to their chest. It looked like they were ready for a raid or some shit.I asked what they were doing to their captain or whatever and he said "there's the Arezzo - Perugia derby tonight"To be clear, that was a Serie C match (third division).
In awe at the size of this foul territory
>>157355471Speaking of NASCAR, here's the Daytona 500 overhead shot. Pretty sovless, but God damn that's a lot of people
Here's Polo Grounds.. probably the most unusual MLB stadium in history
>>157355503there are definitely more soulful NASCAR tracks. Pic related.
>>157355426You guys love making a big show out of everything, people here are very purist about sports for the most part. They want to visit the stadium, sing a few songs before and during the game, maybe eat a sandwich, and then leave. Fans tend to throw fits when the organizers come up with special stuff for big games, finalsThat being said, I think we could still make room for (marching) bands. They are quite cool, and I think that with good planning, they could go nicely with the clubs' already existing pre-game song customs. They'd definitely spice things up and are not soulless commercialization stuff>>157355394>>157355378>>157355311Thanks. A shame ... but it still seems to hold out quite a bit at least

This is what the Columbus Crew new stadium will look like. Pretty bleak, but somehow better than the current one. (Ohios MLS team)
>>157355468Maybe I'm just spoiled by America generally seeing more days of sunshine, but I tend to think that if you're not going to go all the way with an outright dome, then you ought to maximize how much sky your getting from your view. Some older English stadiums have a more tasteful restraint to how far their roofs stretch, but then you have other stadiums in Europe that blot out too much of the sky. And since they have so much overhang, you often need architectural eyesores in order to keep them up, like those cables and pylons. My NFL team renovated it's stadium straight out of the European styles (no doubt to attract more tourist-driven friendlies) and I hate it.
The Cleveland Browns NFL stadium. Currently building a new one.
The CFL stadium in Hamilton Ontario. Who thought this through? Either it was someone dumb enough to develop small residential bungalos around a stadium, or someone decided to drop a stadium in the middle of suburbia. Imagine living in that little house across the street and just hearing all the noise until well into the night.Guess those people are lucky the stadium never fills to capacity. AA Reds affiliate Chattanooga Lookouts' new ballpark that just opened this season. It was built on an old pipe foundry site and they kept some of the remaining structures to incorporate into the park and further developments later. I think their long term plan is to try to fill in the parking lot parcel by parcel with commercial and residential space. Too bad it's by the fucking interstate again, which was the problem with their previous stadium. The original Engel Stadium was genuine soul from the 20s or 30s but the team left it in the 90s, it's probably going to get torn down in the next 5-10 years.
>>157363150Yeah it's pretty good, Bale is the main character so he carries it. His wife in the movie is also played very well.
>>157363150Yeah, it's really damn good. If you watch a lot of racing, there are some cheesy things to help a movie audience understand what's happening. For instance, for a blown engine, there is a bang and a stream of smoke, whereas in real life, the car usually just quietly costs to a stop. All the acting is great, thete a tons of cool cars, the directing is great and the story is well told, if not 3,000% historically accurate. The opening scene still gives me chills because it reminds me so much of sports car driving at night. Don't watch this on your phone. One of Germany's premier grounds, the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, sponsor name Signal-Iduna-ParkBuilt for the 1974 World Cup, it started out as a typical box stadium with four separate stands. Then it got expanded time and time again, giving it a somewhat old-school vibeIt's quite run-down by now, and it's not particularly pretty from the outside either. But with its main stand and the atmosphere, the aesthetics as a whole are easily accepted as part of the more rustical rust belt Ruhrgebiet vibe that befits Dortmund
>>157388213The Westfalenstadion is actually a detriment to Borussia Dortmund's ambitions nowadays, it has a very small amount of VIP boxes and VIP seats, it's not a very profitable stadium (partially also because of the very high share of season ticket holders) and has very high maintenance costs already due to its age
>>157388213>>157388239For comparison, this was the stadium in 1974It's an interesting stadium to me, primarily because of how purist it is. But it's neither modern nor very profitable nor pretty. It relies on its atmosphere

>>157392377Right, no, I meant you guys as in the fans.Say you're a fan of a college team, and you like its players and follow their development for a couple years. Then they get drafted to different NFL teams.Do you now follow each player in their own separate NFL team? Do you ignore and keep following the college team? Or what?>>157392409Ah, I wrote my post before seeing this one. Thanks
>>157392421i usually root for my school's players to do well in the league unless they play for a team that i hate. but whenever my favorite team drafts a guy from my school, he sucks for whatever reason
>>157392421we generally would support the guys out of our school, but most Americans go to schools without a college football team so not really
all of these are souless, holy moly
>>157392620post some then fgt
>>157392421I follow them a little bit, hope they have a good career if I really like them, but most NFL players are out of the league for good in under 5 years. Odds are they'll fade into the many "good enough to make pro" category and then get forgotten pretty quickly. If your school has a stud player that takes them far, especially if they played 3 seasons at that university, it's pretty normal for those players to wash out in the NFL. But they'll still be fondly remembered on campus and attend a game or two there each season as well as stay active in the program from the edges (often working in a recruiting capacity). It doesn't phase me that the biggest stars from >my college had short or uneventful NFL careers, the greats are still great to college ball fans.
>>157392421The funny thing is I went through a dilemma sort of like that last season, but not for college and NFL like it typically goes but rather high school and college. The national college championship was a matchup between a quarterback who went to my high school in Miami, going up against none other than the University of Miami. I may not have graduated from there but a few friends did and I always favored it among the big name Florida schools. Plus I did take a summer course there to catch up with switching my major so I'm within my rights to not be a poser when rooting for them. Thus it came down to choosing between high school pride or more city-level pride and my usual solidarity with UM. I went with the latter... "we" lost. But now the quarterback is on the Raiders and I’d like to see him do well as long as it isn’t against the Dolphins.
>>157392692>>157392684Very interesting. I've never watched a college game, but I did play a shitton of Football Coach: College Dynasty so I know things like red-shirting and whatnot
>>157355426There are south american soccer crowds that sound exactly like those Japan crowds, with trumpets blaring and shit
>>157392753If you enjoy handegg enough you should check out a college game. The time will be brutal for you, but if you can find a marquee matchup/rivalry to watch I think you'll have a good time. Underrated viewing is Missouri @ Kansas. Historic rivalry, neither are great teams, but they always put up a fight against each other. Real hatred.
>>157390598Comfy. Here's my school's. Our football team was/is absolute ass.

>>157388554The manicured clay taps the same psyche as a zen gardenThe mound literally stands out as one of the only pieces of raised earth in team sports. It also creates a center stage of sorts for pitchers, already a fascinating position in just how much it bucks conventional wisdom in that it's one lone man on defense that takes control of the game in his hands to attack the offense head-on.

I would say most really aren't, if their minor league team moved some people would be sad but they'd be over it soon.Minor League teams hold cities hostage for new/modernized facilities almost as much as the big leagues do now.
