Hanamaki Higashi (花巻東) is a private school from Iwate Prefecture. This is their 20th appearance at Koshien, with them having appeared both last spring and summer. Despite never winning, they are considered a traditional Koshien powerhouse. They are most famous for being Shohei Ohtani's high school, along with Yusei Kikuchi.

They most recently won the 2025 spring Koshien and are considered heavy favourites this year as well. Daisuke Matsuzaka attended Yokohama and starred at Koshien in 1998. Among the 9 starting players, 0 are from Kanagawa Prefecture

Kendai Takasaki (健大高崎) is a private school from Gunma Prefecture. Kendai have been without a doubt the strongest team in Gunma since the early 2010s. They have made 14 appearances at Koshien, all since 2011. They won the 2024 Spring Koshien, but unexpectedly lost in the first round of last year's Summer Koshien.

If something happens to any of the students, there's 0 chance the tournament will continue as-is. Have they ever talked about renovating the stadium? There has to be some physical adjustments they can make for both the benches and the field that makes it less oppressive in the middle of the day.
