Have there ever been plans to unify the entire British isles under one football league?
>>
>>157413112
Rangers and Celtic joining the English league system would do it in practice, with the top welsh teams already there

But thank fuck it didn't happen, scottish football has maintained SOVL
>>
>>157413112
not really. no one really wants it other than some of the more deluded rangers and celtic fans
>>
>>157413112
Can't do it because the Irish will find some aspect of it to be offended by.
>>
>>157413112
The Irish are too white for England
>>
>>157413112
the only people who want this are autists from foreign countries who think:
>"one island must mean they should all compete together, right?"
the english dont want it
the scots dont want it
the wlesh dont want it
the irish dont want it
and thats all there is to it
>>
>>157413112
if they did it would literally just be the england squad the same as it is now and none of the welsh, scottish or irish players would get to play in international tournaments
>>
>>157413149
Rangers and Celtic would struggle to make it to League Two.
>>
>>157413149
There are historical reasons why some Welsh clubs play in the English football league. They did not progressively join
>>157413112
>british isles
>>
The scots would never allow it, rangers and celtic because they they wouldnt get their automatic champions league places any more and the other scottish clubs because they're be eternally in league 2
>>
>>157417188
>the other scottish clubs because they're be eternally in league 2
I think you're being very generous there. I'd surprised if some of them got through the nationals.
>>
hey how come no one ever considered doing that thing that no one asked for and that benefits absolutely nobody
>>
>>157413112
The British Home nations have been playing football against each other before any other country started playing the sport. There has never been a point in history where we have considered merging.
>>
Tony Blair wanted to.

I'm not even sure what would be fair.

Scottish Premiership at League One level, but then it kind of falls apart below that

Welsh and NI top divisions would be like 6th tier National League North/South level maybe.

1 Premier League
2 Championship
3 League One + Scottish Premiership
4 League Two + Scottish Championship
5 National League + Scottish League One
6 National League North/South + Scottish League Two + Cymru Premier + NIFL Premiership
7 Northern Premier / Southern Premier / Isthmian Premier + Highland League + Lowland League + Cymru North/South + NIFL Championship

On the contrary, I doubt a majority of Scots would mind. The idea is Celtic/Rangers, who are Premier level when you add in Premier money, leave for EPL. They are then playing at the right level while the rest of Scottish football has a more competitive league without them. Although Hearts would still manage not to win it.
As to, `they'd lose their CL spots` and pish like >>157416429, the cash on offer in the Premier dwarfs anything they get from CL/TV - they already more fans than most EPL clubs and the extra cash would allow them to buy better players and compete at that level. Again, picrel - being relegated from English Prem earns you more than Barcelona, picrel. The Old Firm clubs themselves would be off like a rat up a drainpipe but its the English teams who block it, turkeys never being inclined to vote for Xmas.

>>157415955
>one island
More like one country. If you don't like each other then split, you faggots
>>
>>157417748
Astounding delusion
>>
>>157418129
which part and why, exactly?
oh, thas right - you only want to be a mouthy gobshoite on the sidelines and avoid anything approaching actual discussion. Carry on gobshoiting.

>Celtic and Rangers would be PL level if they had PL money
>English clubs would fear Celtic and Rangers if they were included in the PL

You're talking absolute shite.
>>
>>157418195
Celtics attendances are on a par with Arsenal, as ground is same size - which would make it, at present, 5th largest average attndance in Premier League. They also have a years long wiat for season tickets and could easily extend it to 70,000+. Add in the other £140m per season they would get shoved up their arse just for being in the Premier, what, exactly, do you think would stop them being a Premier league level team? They just fucked the Austrian Chmpions 3-0 in the Cl - how many lower half Premier dross would do that?
English clubs have consistently said they dont want Celtic/Rangers in the EPL as it means more chance of dross being relegated. Which they would be, were you to add a guaranteed extra £140m+ or so per year to their player budget. Its not fucking rocket science, either are bigger clubs than half of the dross that makes up the bottom of the Premier. Having TV cash does NOT make you a big club.
>>
>>157418195
I think they'd spawn in League One and then within a few years become PL mainstays, if Brentford and Bournemouth can do it why not
>>
>>157413112
The main obstacle would be the fact that absolutely no one wants this
>>
>>157413149
>scottish football has maintained SOVL

Sectarianism isn't LE SOVL
>>
Something like the Anglo-Scottish Cup again would be fun but it'll never happen.

Or how the Scottish Challenge Cup invited two teams each from Wales, NI and Eire Prems and two teams from the National League, that was interesting.
>>
>>157418374
Last seasons SPL ended with the 1st and 2nd place teams in a one off game to decide the champs on the final day.

Meanwhile English nonces will try to claim that Man City billionaires beating QPR was the greatest ending to a season imaginable.
>>
>>157418306
>what, exactly, do you think would stop them being a Premier league level team?
The fact that both Celtic and Rangers are ran like complete shite? Celtic awash with cash yet sat with a thumb up their arse spending none of it and barely scraped the title - needing to bring Martin O'Neill back to do so - while Rangers have failed season after season and managed to finish third in a two horse race last season. Both fanbases would expect to win the PL every season as well, which would never ever happen.

>They just fucked the Austrian Chmpions 3-0 in the Cl - how many lower half Premier dross would do that?
West Ham and Crystal Palace have both won the Conference League, and look where the former are now. Also very convenient you've ignored Rangers' absolutely dire start in Europe this season, that surely strengthens the argument for them to play in the PL when they can't even beat the Polish version of Partick Thistle.

>English clubs have consistently said they dont want Celtic/Rangers in the EPL as it means more chance of dross being relegated.
First I have ever heard of that. English football doesn't want the Ugly Sisters because the authorities would go apeshit at having to control the scum fanbases every week when they cross the border. I'm sure Tottenham v Celtic would go do well, especially in these times.

>>157418450
>Meanwhile English nonces will try to claim that Man City billionaires beating QPR was the greatest ending to a season imaginable.
Only underage spastics think that, Liverpool v Arsenal 1989 is the objectively best ending to an English season.
>>
>>157418462
>Celtic awash with cash yet sat with a thumb up their arse spending none of it and barely scraped the title
a good horse not jumping higher etc.
our Billionaire owner is a great believer in 'good horse' theories. And to turn your point around, they are one of the most solvent clubs in Europe, not that the fans particularly see it like that.
>West Ham and Crystal Palace have both won the Conference League, and look where the former are now
uhm, paying £22m for Celtics best player, because EPL parachute payments, etc? A sum Celtic could never afford to spend on one player. Does that make West Ham a bigger club?
>I'm sure Tottenham v Celtic would go do well
fun tho :)
>>
>>157418505
>uhm, paying £22m for Celtics best player, because EPL parachute payments, etc?
That wasn't the argument being discussed, and the sad thing is you know that wasn't the argument being discussed.

>"how many lower half PL teams have battered the champions of Austria in European competition" (the only convincing success Scottish football has had in Europe this season so far)
>two lower half PL teams have won European competitions recently, and one of them has just been relegated
>"yeah but that club signed my club's best player for a fee we could never afford"

Come back when a Scottish club can win a European competition.
>>
If Scottish football merged into English football, Celtic and Rangers would be Crystal Palace-tier, including the many seasons Crystal Palace spent in the second tier. Every other Scottish team would be League One at best, and the seasons where one of them actually does well, like Hearts, would just be replaced by a season where they get 100 points in a season against Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient. Effectively, Scottish football would lose all prestige and become a national humiliation ritual. Inverness Caledonian Thistle would probably get more points per season from teams forfeiting when they can’t afford to drive there than they would ever get from winning matches.

>>
>>157418679
That was my mistake on forgetting the word "again". Which of course has not happened since 1983 (not Celtic, surprise surprise) and will never happen again.
>>
>>157413112
the discussion led directly to the Troubles
