NBA teams have a roster of 15-18 players and basketball teams only have five players on court at once vs squads of 42 and on-field teams of 18. A couple of draftees, who are often already at least 20, can completely transform an NBA team. Rebuilding in AFL takes a long time and it needs to be done across multiple drafts and still requires trading. The worst teams potentially dipping out on the best picks in multiple drafts is just going to extend those rebuilds. It's not transferrable.
