I said in the other thread that if you’re behind and just got scored on the best tactic is a short kickoff. If you get the ball back you from a short kickoff you will be in scoring position that set, whereas if you receive an ordinary deep kickoff you will have to rely on a long range try or at least one or even two line breaks to get to scoring position (inside the opposition 20). If you’re leading and want to stifle a comeback you’ll still kickoff because you’ll prefer them deep in their territory so you can put a hard defensive set on and force a mistake. Australian Super League had the rule that the scoring side kicks off, and it didn’t improve the game. It’s just some bullshit and there are better things they could be trialling in these dead rubber games
