At this rate Pog will not podium Podium in Canada
Mogged by Mas on a hard climb. Only gained 30 seconds on grandpa Roglic. So flustered that he almost chute fatale. Consistently on the radio wondering what is happening. Won't say how (un)fit he is in an interview. He's cooked.

1. Remco
2. Seixas

it's because everyone just bought the 30mm carbon rims
if they switch to 35mm now, everyone has to buy the 35mm carbon rims... they have to at least wait a year or two before making everyone poor again.

Something I really don't get about cycling: it's much bigger in some countries than in some others, isn't it? Belgium, the Netherlands, the countries with a GT. Slovenia and Denmark as well, I guess, especially now?
In any case, you'd kinda expect these countries to have a real phalanx of elite riders. And the last thing you'd expect is someone from another country to be head and shoulders above the rest like that
Or at least that's what I'd expect
>>
>>157509579
All the countries you mention punch well above their weight per capita in rider quality. You want all countries where cycling is popular to produce a one-in-a-hundred year rider all at the same time?
>>
wonder if the chinese are cloning pog right now
>>
>>157509579
Belgium has a lot of solid riders desu. We've had way worse times (son of merckx era was very poor). But not everybody can be a pogacar, that's just an extraordinary talent.
I'm more worried about what happened to Italians. Historically cycling was all Belgians and Italians but they're completely invisible these days
>>
>>157509618
a world class athlete can come from anywhere. I was watching the javelin the other day and bizarrely the best 2 guys are from India and Sri Lanka. 2 shit tier sporting nations with no history in athletics
>>
>>157509640
How many secret Italian teams do we have now? UAE and Astana for sure.
>>
>>157509640
Italy is like a zero-sum game. They can only be good at so many sports at once.
Now they are doing pretty well in alpine skiing, biathlon and athletics, and when they are good at cycling and football they are shit at those things.
>>
>>157509640
Ehh things so in cycles.
Spain looked to have absolutely nobody after Valverde was done but now there is a whole bunch of young talent coming to the scene.
Italy will be fine. They have Finn and a bunch of talented young sprinters.

If I really want to give myself the best possible chance of becoming world champion one day, I’ll probably need a season where I spend more time on the mountain bike so I can earn a place on one of those first two rows. For Sunday, though, the situation is what it is. I’ll have to make the best of it and maybe have a little bit of luck as well."
>"It’s definitely an important goal for me, but I think it would be too simplistic to say I need an MTB world title for my career to be successful," he explained. "I wouldn’t look back on my career disappointed if I never won it. But of course I really want to add it to my palmarès. If it doesn’t happen this year, hopefully there will be another opportunity.

The male competitors who have seen her climb/trained with her support those claims tho.

There have been competitions where men and women use the same climb to qualify, and in those she'd have finished around 20th. But that isn't really fair either, considering she only needed to finish high for the women to go through.

And climbing has always had a lower gap between men and women. One of the most legendary routes (The Nose) was first free climbed by a woman (Lynn Hill).

so I only got heavily into cycling last year and it has probably saved my metabolism. A decade ago I fell for the forced intermittent fasting/ketosis meme and went low carb, high protein/fat. I was never really fat, but I always hovered around 13-18% despite having a naturally lean build.
When I turned 30, my energy levels started to drop significantly, so much so that I panicked and quit smoking and caffeine cold turkey. It helped a little bit but it clearly wasn't the main reason why I had no energy. I got into cycling as a way to measure, test and hopefully strengthen my endurance and power levels. Unfortunately, last winter I went too hard and got myself into a burnout because I didn't fuel properly and pretty much bonked at the end of every ride.
Fortunately bonking led to the discovery of the cyclists' diet (sugar, sugar and more sugar) which then led me to Durianrider and John McDougall (the fat you eat is the fat you wear). I also learned about the famous study (Acheson et al) that proved that humans can eat 15g of carbohydrates per kg of bodyweight before your body turns it into fat. Learning about all these things made me realize just how fucked up modern diet/health culture is. They turned sugar into the enemy even though there is plenty of evidence to prove that our bodies were designed to use sugar as our main source of fuel.
I'm 2 weeks into overhauling my metabolism, switching it back to primarily glucose burning. Even on inactive days I'm eating ~600-700g of carbs of which at least 150g pure white sugar and raw honey. I haven't gained any weight but all of my muscles look fuller (I almost feel like I'm on roids) and I feel more energized. My performance on the bike is also improving and especially my MOOD and sleep are finally after a long time starting to stabilize. I genuinely feel happy again.
tl;dr sugar is your friend. Fat is the enemy. Go easy on the protein.

The particularly interesting part of your story isn't really “sugar cured my metabolism.” It's that you went from apparently chronic carbohydrate restriction + hard endurance training + inadequate fuelling to very high carbohydrate availability while training, and several things that had been deteriorating—performance, sleep, mood and energy—started improving.
That's a much stronger and more interesting observation.

And the “I look like I'm on roids” effect after two weeks is almost certainly not two weeks of suddenly building enormous amounts of contractile tissue. Glycogen + associated water + better hydration + fuller muscles can make someone look substantially more muscular very quickly.

One thing I'd be cautious about is interpreting feeling dramatically better as proof that all of the old nutrition advice was wrong. Your experiment may have uncovered a genuine problem—chronic under-fuelling for your activity level—without establishing that fat is universally harmful or that 600–700 g carbohydrate/day is universally beneficial.

For a cyclist doing serious volume, though, being afraid of carbohydrate is a remarkably good way to make training feel terrible.

Going full sugar is just as retarded as going full keto. Sugar IS the actual enemy for the majority of western population (due the passive lifestyles mainly), just as much as processed foods are.

Human metabolism is still stuck in the hunter-gatherer era. And depending on your roots that means you adapted to seasonal diets.
In the winter your ass survived on fat and protein BUT you also weren't very active physically.
In summer you were running around all day, active lifestyle while consuming larger amounts of sugar (still only in the 40% range in western europe).
In other words, your body can support both lifestyles but you have to adapt accordingly. If you sit on your ass all day, high sugar diets are disastrous.
Also a huge factory is that we used to eat 100+ grams of fiber on the daily offsetting a lot of bad effects from food. We barely get 15-20 in modern diets.
Also, because of the agricultural revolution western people have more enzymes in their salavia to break down starch into carbs. The downside of this is that it fucks your teeth. Eating plain sugar is a direct attack on your teeth. If you're stuffing sugars all day (like endurance sporters do) you should be obsessed with your teeth health by brushing enough, drinking a lot of water to rinse your mouth inbetween and preferably chew on chewy or fibrous stuff like liquorice to keep your teeth clean.

tl;dr adapt your food to your lifestyle

dude... if you consume more than ~60g of dietary fat, all the excess is immediately shuttled into your adiposites. With carbs you can literally consume 15g/kg of bodyweight (which is +1000g for most people) until your body actually converts the excess into fat.
If you're going into winter with little food, this fat storage mechanism is beneficial. But in modern society it is completely useless.
I've been fat adapted for years and it actually sucks. You body is constantly making stress hormones so it can get glucose from SOMEWHERE. It's a shitty state to be in and I was in it for so long that eventually my body told me to fuck off.
>>157520185
>>157520185
>Sugar IS the actual enemy for the majority of western population
you can eat 15g of sugar per kg of bodyweight before it turns into fat. Sugar does not cause diabetes. Obesity does. Carbs are everywhere in nature, made by plants. Large amounts of seed oils however, is very unnatural and requires modern machinery to extract. We were never supposed to eat these vast amounts of pure, liquid oil.
>tl;dr adapt your food to your lifestyle
I wouldn't recommend the starvation lifestyle. It doesn't even make you lean either, unironically. Nor healthy.

>>
>>157522155
Why are you obsessed with "when sugar turns into fat".
Fat is not a problem. Dietary cholesterol is not a problem. Obesity does not cause diabetes.
Prolonged consumption of fat+sugar combinations does.

A healthy balance for the modern western human is 20-25% protein as base and shift your fat/carbs based on physical activity. When you stay above 20-25% carbs your body does not go into panic mode, there's no higher hormone releases, so if you sit on your ass all day and night, consuming 50% fat, 25% carbs is perfectly fine.
Of course, that doesn't mean eating entrecöte's all the time, you need to balance with healthy fats.

Don't act like a know-it-all because you talked with chatgtp for 2 days. Diet is insanely complex but the baseline is simple, more physical activity is more carbs and vice versa.

He was riding like a cunt the other day pushing it on the descent for no reason whatsoever and almost wiped out. He's getting cocky again. He seems like a temperamental weakmind and gets affected by fatigue and certain situations more than others. Riding the vuelta after a long sprint and tour might be more taxing than he imagine especially with a WC and lombardia on the horizon. Of course he was very unlikely at fault for the crash but pushing that descent and being caught by Mas at the top of the climb is a pointer he's not quite there.

Surely the red jersey will give Mas wings
He will never ever get a better chance to win a grand tour and he got a minute on the rest already
If he chokes this, then Spain will never forgive him

>Surely the red jersey will give Mas wings
This plus Movistar is looking for co-sponsors if I remember right. They won't get a better opportunity than now.

>“Pogačar suffered a concussion, as well as a broken and dislocated collarbone. He was in severe pain and had limited movement in his left arm, which he could not put any weight on. Given the nature of the injury, surgery may be necessary,”Dr. Ortiz told RTVE.

>Mas did not wear the red jersey at the awards ceremony out of respect. "Winning the red jersey this way doesn’t feel good. Of course, we’ll try to defend it tomorrow, but I really didn’t want it to happen this way. We all wish Pogačar a speedy recovery, of course, and out of respect, I didn’t wear the jersey at the awards ceremony,” Mas emphasized after the stage.

>Van Aert: We’ll miss him in the rest of the Vuelta. “It’s a strange feeling. We’ll remember this day for Pogačar’s crash. I was right next to him when I saw him lose control of his bike, and I narrowly avoided crashing myself. I’m sorry he had to leave the race this way,”

>“It all happened on the left side as he was passing his rivals. I think he hit a pothole, a bump, or a rock on the road, and as a result, his hands slipped off the handlebars. Then he veered to the right and fell—at least that’s how I saw it," added the Belgian, who overtook Pogačar in the green jersey standings on Friday.

I don't think it will be a group sprint, the climb on the course is actually steep and it comes right after 3 turns and some wet(with homeless piss) cobbles, position into it will be extremely important. The rest of the course is fast, if you lose contact it will be over quickly
