Two things seemed to have happened and I'm not sure if they're related. The first is that everyone gradually lost faith in him as a manager. The second is that he seemed to be running a scam to benefit from transfers, probably by coordinating with certain agents and taking a cut on the side. He pushed the second one so hard while the first was starting to appear so now he's basically ruined him image.

Think he was frustrated to come back and see it was like that so annoyed his team mates by demanding more and annoyed the manager by complaining. He was also like 38 or whatever. So the manager used him as a power play to show he was "strong" and that no one is too big for the club.
