>Eighteen Ligue 1 teams share only €184 million in television rights this year.
How can this be a sustainable business model? Clubs are forced to sell their best players every year. It's getting to the point where PSG will be forced to help some other club to make the league more competitive, also what will happen if the sheikh gets bored of his vanity project?

I think it’s time we considered the question - do we actually care which team in France is the best?

Nobody cares about Llgue 1, simple as, that's why players like Kvara and Dembele can pull up a stinker and nobody will notice it unlike players in the EPL or Vinicius, Lamine and Mbappe in La Liga who gets hate online everyday

QRD from a frenchie about why the tv rights have gone to shit?
>>
>>157536463
tv rights were artificially high because ligue 1 was broadcasted by canal+, canal+ has millions of paid subscribers, some foreign group, media pro came in and said they'd give 1 billion in tv rights over 3 years or something which was a better deal than canal+, so ligue 1 left canal+.
turns out mediapro are scammers and found plenty of loopholes to not pay up. investors realised that ligue 1 doesn't have a big enough audience pull to justify several hundreds of millions in tv rights, because also illegal streaming boomed and people are watching illegal streams of ligue 1 games so the legal audience is heavily reduced, so broadcasters don't want to pay much.

ligue 1 is stuck and there is no way to fix it unless they change the league format and rules to turn it into a goalfest and they easily could with a new point system and with a playoff system for the top 6 teams at the end of the season

The EPL is unironically the only thing that is holding Ligue 1 together.
If you stop buying our shitters for hundreds of millions we're done for.

I like how you put all the blame on Mediapro and not on the LFP executives who approved an obvious scam (Mediapro had no TV channel, no audience, no presence in France, no infrastructure, and no declared origin of funds) only because they were blinded by greed.

It's like only blaming that Indian scammer after your mom transferred him her entire life savings because she thought it was Brad Pitt hitting on her.

lol no
How new are >you actually?

Clubs were not forced to sell to survive, of course if you have a great player he's going to leave but it was initiated by the player who obviously wants to play in a more prestigious league and get more money.

During the Canal+ and Bein era, you didn't need to sell to pass the DNCG, TV revenues were high enough. That's why there were a lot more L1 > L1 transfers compared to today, when you have to sell to England or Saudi Arabia because they're the only ones who overpay.

But now we have players happy to stay in their clubs who NEED to be sold so the club doesn't go under. This happening to 80% of the teams and not a few clubs with terrible management is a first in L1 history.

This is what I wrote. Ligue 1 is a feeder league and always has been. You sound like a customer of PSG's Qatar era
