Charlie Stebbings and Charlie Methven’s central point is that Manchester United’s financial problem is no longer simply “the Glazers’ £650m takeover debt.” The club now has roughly £1.3–£1.4bn in combined debt and liabilities while still requiring enormous investment.

Key points:

The Glazers bought United with borrowed money in 2005. Most of the acquisition debt was subsequently placed onto the club. United went from being essentially debt-free to paying interest on money used to purchase itself.
The original debt has never meaningfully disappeared. United has repeatedly refinanced it—replacing an expiring loan with another loan—rather than paying down the principal. Refinancing prevents an immediate crisis but pushes the obligation into the future.
The £1.4bn headline includes more than the original Glazer debt. It broadly combines: United does not literally have one £1.4bn bank loan, but its combined obligations are substantial.
Around £480m of legacy borrowings
Roughly £250–300m drawn from revolving credit facilities
Approximately £500m in transfer instalments, trade creditors and other liabilities
United has been borrowing to finance ordinary operations and transfers. Stebbings and Methven consider this more concerning than borrowing solely for something productive like a new stadium, because players depreciate and may not generate enough value to repay the debt.
The club generates huge revenue but consumes cash badly. High wages, transfer spending, interest, managerial changes and years of operational inefficiency mean that impressive revenue figures haven’t translated into large amounts of available cash.

Stebbings and Methven conclude that United probably isn’t about to become insolvent because it remains an extremely valuable, high-revenue global brand. However, it is financially constrained.

>£33m net spend to finish bottom half yet again
Excellent job from Stoke there

Looking up that West Ham figure and they got £10.2m for Freddie Potts, that's more incredible than the Fernandes/Summerville/Diouf sales

Liverpool Echo refused to cover the Scouser who snatched Isak's shirt from a child and therefore it 'didn't happen'. If you posted about it on RAWK you would be IP banned.
