egarding the Sharks stadium, is it very unique and many of the corporate users enjoy the place a bit more as they are allowed to somewhat fit out the boxes they use for the year with bespoke signage etc, no other venue would allow corporate users this ability.I have said for many years that the sharks are losing out each year since the development took place, as fans had the ability to go to the stadium park on the grass areas and enjoy the day. That happened for decades and then the whole experience changed to bus / train / walk / uber along with having thousands less in the stands, viewing construction taking place etc it does dampen the atmosphere.The only viable options I see for the Sharks are the following- Stadium redevelopment to take place in Sutherland area, for those that are familiar with the area the ideal location I have in mind would be the PCYC, Swim Centre, Basketball courts, playing fields next to them – why? Well rail transport is near by and could even make a station platform where the PCYC is currently, more central location of the Sutherland Shire region to allow fans to come from N / E / S / W more easily from that freeway and also have the ability to potentially renew the tram station to help move fans around. Barden Ridge or Kurnell could also work but more transport links would be needed. Maybe even a portion of Woollooware golf course but that would be annoying as it would harm junior golf in the area.The whole area would be redeveloped with new PCYC, swim centre, bball courts, stadiums – yes stadiums – as the unique proposition of building a stadium similar to VTB Stadium in Russia but more shrunk down to say 25,000 – 28,000 (with standing) for the grass stadium and say 6500 seated to 10,000 for the indoor area (for ice rink, basketball/netball, boxing, concerts, eSports tournaments, indoor tennis, etc)
The stadium would also have a functional brewery onsite and other amenities such as commerical kitchens that the TAFE next door would use daily for training – so the site has more functional purposes. This would allow for beer taps to have more flexibility instead of being locked down by the big players that can have products that arent on trend so miss out on sales. Along with the kitchen staff maybe being hired students to complete the food for corporate areas etc.This would require Southern Districts Rugby to also play from the same stadium venue, along with Sutherland Sharks FC (NPL team) and Cronulla Sharks (NRL/NRLW) so that the grass stadium has a high frequency of use. The arena portion would have the ice rink available almost daily and used by Winter olympic skating athletes to practice (enable olympic funding) and can convert to concerts, boxing, basketball/netball, indoor tennis, etc. A League womens but not A league mens, as the location for an A league team with its own identity is not ideal due to Sydney FC capture of the market over decades and the A league team should have gone to the wollongong wolves instead of the bulls.The reason a stadium is needed is to allow for expanded crowd capacities from seats for away fans to season ticket holders and most importantly corporate offerings, as the expanded capacity would ensure more long term regular corporate users are looked after along with away team corporate offerings. It would also ensure a passionate connection of Shire residents to their team. Instead of playing away at Allianz, ANZ etc.
