We can blame London’s gravitational pull, Birmingham’s regeneration figures, Leeds’ ever-expanding skyline, Liverpools objectively superior music scene, but the truth is it’s simply not enough. Transport, housing, investment, ambition—you name it, it all stinks. Don’t get me wrong, I still have full faith in Bev Craig and the ten boroughs, but MASSIVE reinforcements are desperately needed in the next devolution settlement. Otherwise, I’m not very optimistic about this city-region, or our chances of competing with London and the other rapidly growing metropoles for that matter.
