Someone made the connection between the Titans early years and the Phins early years. In both cases the trams are hosting a prelim into their third year in the comp. Honestly I think the Phins are in a better situation than what the Titans were in 2010. The Titans hosted a prelim under the McIntyre system which was a very odd system, so it was basically a fluke. On the other hand the Phins were genuinely close to the best team of week 1 of the finals.

Another fucked thing about the McIntyre system is in 2009 the Titans who finished 3rd played AWAY in the semi final against the Eels who finished 8th. The Eels won 27-2
Ahh yes, you lost your home ground advantage as soon as you post in the McIntyre system.
The whole finals system needs a revamp. Some of the problems with it are quite serious, the minor premier gets no advantage over the runners-up and the imbalance caused by not keeping the seeding being the two most obvious examples
