The goal was to fix the run defense, which the Cowboys have struggled to fix for years. Dallas is actually really good at drafting pass rushers but has sucked at drafting for run defense, I guess it makes sense in that case to trade for a proven run-stopping asset.

Not that it's particularly worked out so far.
