An idea for a new sport came to me in a dream.9v9 full contact sport inspired by rugby and American football, using a rugby ball. The only way to score is with a drop goal: you drop the ball, let it bounce once, then kick it through the uprights. The field is fully enclosed, so the ball stays live instead of going out of bounds. In the central part of the field, offball players on the possessing team can block defenders and escort the ball carrier like in American football. Ball carriers can be tackled, but when they go down they have to release the ball, and it stays live for either team to recover. No scrums and no falling on top of it.Scoring works a bit like basketball. You can only score from inside the shooting zone. A drop goal from inside the 40 m arc is worth 2 points, while one from outside the arc but still inside the shooting zone is worth 3.Hand passes can only go sideways or backward. You can’t throw the ball forward, but you can kick it forward to a teammate, who can catch it and keep running.

>>157974014What do you mean, friend? I fell asleep watching François Steyn drop goal highlights and I think that's what inspired my autistic brain to think about this. There are also elements of aussie rules football, gaelic football, association football/soccer, and basketball in there. It could be really fun to watch.
>>157973986Wouldn't you just kick the ball like a retard when you're up to waste time
>>157973986Dude you basically described Australian Rules Football without the drop
>>157974094You could, but the defending team could just leave someone back to catch it and push up to attack. Therés no out of bounds, so the ball is live most of the time unless a foul is committed.Ideally the field would be set up with 3 defenders in the back, 3 midfielders in the middle, and 3 attackers up front. Your defenders would be able to catch any troll kicks or big punts and you'd basically be giving up possession. The pacing is more like basketball.>>157974103There is definitely some aussie rules DNA in there but this one is 9v9, allows American football style blocking, tackles force a live ball release, and the field is enclosed so there are no boundary throwins. It's kind of in the same family but it would play pretty differently.
>>157973986i dont get it how tall the walls have to be then to enclose a kicked football
>>157974143Quite tall, probably at least as tall as the top of the goalposts. I sort of stole the idea from american arena football where players can get tackled into walls, which was pretty exciting to watch as a kid.
>>157974155ur gonna need nets then maybe like in baseball
>>157974195Yeah a net would be necessary, kind of like how they do it with American football goalposts. Also a rule saying some chud can't kick the ball from the 5 meter standoff behind the goal.
it could be good. did you see my post yesterday about wild fields? how like someone should play sports they should make a wild field league for sports, this sport coudl be good where you go into a wild field, that's not stnadardized, and you play the same sports you know and there are animals around you that would be a real test
>>157974301This is a very fun idea. The only thing I would be worried about is injuries. Contact sports can be dangerous without a proper referee of some kind.
>>157973986Sounds like yet another slightly different variant of Rugby/Handegg/Aussie
>>157974408Yeah, pretty much, but it takes away a lot of the stops so it's more continuous play like basketball.
>>157973986Do you Blood Bowl?
>>157974477I don't know much about these sports besides the basics, but I like some of the ideas. I wish more sports used walls around the field but I don't know how fast players would gas without all the breaks you get from the ball getting out and all that, plus I imagine you would have to compensate for ads everywhere since there would be way less ad breaks and all that.Btw, don't you think the basketball scoring system would cause everyone to just shoot from 3s over and over again instead of trying to go all the way to the end? Like in the NBA right now lol Wouldn't a 3-2 scoring system making more sense? Basically you score higher the closer you get idk
>>157974523I think with 9v9 and tackling in place + the size of the field, it would be a much lower scoring game. Basketball regularly gets in the 80s and 100s for points, but this would be more like 10s and 20s. With a field like this I think 3 pointers would be very attractive but easier to defend since it would be a lot more awkward angles and hard to do without a lot of setup.I might write the rules into a simulation of some kind and see what kind of shots are mathematically the most efficient.
>>157974544Makes sense when you put it that way.Looking at the field like this makes me think a similar concept to inverted wingers from football/sawker would be a thing in this sport. Essentially lefties playing on the right and vice versa so your kicking foot is already aligned to the goal
ummm but does it allow equality with women?????
>>157974575Of course there's always the option of making everything within the zone worth 2 equally, and have penalties at 1. It all depends on how it would play out.My friends and I played intramural rugby back in university days and would do something similar to this during warmups, just messing around though not really tackling each other. Was a lot of fun.
>>157974588Yes, as long as they're not on my team.Pic related. Me about to light up the lesbian 50kg lighter than me and restore her brain to factory heterosexual settings.
>SLAMBALL>BULLETBALLtakes a look at these, crackpot!
Incorporate guns somehow. Gun x ball game is yet to be tried.
>>157973986Cool but its to similar to the other 3
go back to sleep
